Objective To explore the method and effects of operative treatment of superior shoul-der suspensory complex(SSSC)injury.Methods A total of 18 patients with SSSC injury were enrolled. There were six cases of scapular neck fracture combined with comminuted clavicle fracture,five cases of scapular neck fracture combined with acromial fracture,and two cases of comminuted clavicle fracture com-bined with acromial and glenoid fracture.These patients were treated with open reduction and internal fixa-tion.Three patients had acromioclavicular joint dislocation combined with coracoclavicular ligament rupture and they were given hook plate fixation and ligament repair.One patient with scapular neck fracture com-bined with acromioclavicular joint dislocation,and one patient with comminuted clavicle fracture combined with coracoclavicular ligament rupture,were treated with the open reduction,internal fixation and the liga-ment repair.Results All patients were followed up for 3 to 14 months,with an average of 9 months.Ana-tomical reduction and healing were all achieved within 7 to 12 weeks,with an average of 8.6 weeks.Con-clusion Anatomical structure of SSSC is very complex and surgery is given priority to internal fixation, which restores the stability good therapeutic effect.

?-carotene of vegetables was extracted with petroleum ether and ether (1:1). The extract was evaporated at 45℃ in water bath. The residue was dissolved in n-hexane and analysed on a column of?Bondapak C18 with gradient elution, methyl alcohol as mobile phase. It was then detected at 450nm by spectrophotometer. The retention time of ?-carotene was 13.71min. The recoveries were 94.1% to 102.2%. The coefficient of variation was 2.38% to 5.17%. The method was simple and rapid.

Airway problems in foetus that may cause airway obstruction can be safely managed by using an ex utero intrapartum technique(EXIT).The EXIT procedure maintains a period of uteroplacental circulation for fetal oxygenation during delivery to provide time to explore and secure the airway of the fetus or to perform fetal operations before the umbilical cord is clamped.The common indication for the EXIT procedure is the presence of foetal airway obstruction,which is usually caused by neck mass,congenital diaphragmatic hernia,congenital high way obstruction syndrome,thoracic abnormality,congenital heart and lung dysfunction,conjoined twins,and so on.It avoids the acute airway obstruction in a neonate that has disastrous consequences.

AIM: To study the antiproliferation of vitamin E succinate (VES) on pterygium fibroblasts in vitro and to find a potential agent for prevention and treatment of primary and recurrence pterygium.METHODS: Primary culture and subculture of pterygium fibroblasts were established in vitro ,and different concentrations of VES (0, 10 and 20mg/L) were added to subcultured fibroblasts, respectively. Influence of VES on the growth curve of fibroblast was observed at day 2, 4 and 7 after treatment of VES. 3- [4,5-Dimethylthiazolzyl]-2,5-Diphenyl Tetrazolium Bromide (MTT) assay at 490nm was used to evaluate the effect of the cells proliferation.RESULTS: The addition of VES to culture caused the marked descent of growth curve in comparison with the control group, and the inhibiting rate of 10 and 20mg/L of VES was 33.2% and 46.7%, 67.9%, and 76.8%, 81.7% at day 2,4 and 7, respectively. VES could obviously inhibit the fibroblast proliferation in dose-dependent manner by MTT assay.CONCLUSION: VES can significantly inhibit the proliferation of pterygium fibroblast in vitro.

Background To explore the roles of human papilloma virus(HPV)and herpes simplex virus (HSV)in pathogenesis of pterygia are very important for provide more basis for the study of pterygia mechanisms.Objective The aim of the study was to detect the expression of HSV and HPV in pterygia. Methods A total of 68 specimens of pterygia and specimens of normal conjunction tissue were obtained during the operation.The expression of HSV DNA and HPV DNA in pterygia specimens and conjunetival tissue were detected and compared by real time fluorescence quantitative polymerase chain reaction(PCR).Written informed consent was obtained from each patient before the any medical procedure related to this study. Results Real time fluorescence quantitative PCR showed that HPV DNA was detected in 12(17.65％)pterygia specimens,and HSV DNA was found in 15 (22.06％)pterygia specimens；however them were detected in 6(8.82％)and 1(1.47％)in conjunctival tissue respectively.Significant differences were found in the expression both HSV DNA and HPV DNA between pterygium tissue and eonjunctival tissue(HPV：χ2=10.291,P<0.05；HSV：χ2=4.561,P<0.05).The co-expression of HSV DNA and HPV DNA was seen in 5(7.35％)pterygium specimens,but no any co-expression of HSV DNA and HPV DNA was in conjunctival specimen. Conclusion HSV and HPV may participate in the pathogenesis and development of pterygium.The detection of virus DNA can offer an experiment evidence of HSV and HPV in pterygium generation.

Objective To observe the changes in cytokeratin expression pattern of the regenerated epithelia of dermal tissue flaps transferred for intraoral mucosal reconstruction. Methods Mucosal defects were made on the right buccal mucosa of 12 healthy adult dogs, and then were reconstructed immediately by pedicled platysma myodermal flaps (PMDF). Changes in the expression patterns of CK10 and CK19 of the epithelia on the flaps were observed by immunohistochemical staining. Results Low level of CK19 expression was found in the basal layer and the layers superior to the basal layer of the regenerated epithelia at 4 week after transferring the dermal tissue flaps. The expression pattern of keratin in PMDF was identical to that of the normal skin 12 weeks later. Conclusion The regenerated epithelia remain the original structure without mucosal changes.

Objective To evaluate the effect of stereotactic radiotherapy combined with conventional radiotherapy for non-small cell lung cancer(NSCLC)patients with positive stump at the resected bronchial margin. Methods From June 1996 to November 2000, 41 NSCLC patients in whom microscopic residual disease found pathologically at the resected bronchial margin were treated by: conventional radiotherapy followed by stereotactic radiotherapy ( RT+SRT group 18 patients), while the other 23 patients received routine radiotherapy alone (RT group). Results The 1-,2-and 3-year local disease-free rates were better in RT+ SRT group (92.3%,~83.1% and 83.1%) than those in RT group (80.2%,60.2% and 39.5% ). However, no significant difference was found in the complication rate or survival rate between the two groups. Conclusions Stereotactic radiotherapy is effective as a boost irradiation to patients with non-small cell lung cancer with microscopic residual disease at the resected bronchial margin by improving the local control.
