Objective To investigate the relationship between thyroid function indexes and plasma level of N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) among patients who had high risks for cardiovascular diseases without thyroid diseases and heart failure. Methods Totally 166 elderly type 2 diabetic patients aged 80 years and over with normal range of thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) were divided into group of euthyroid sick syndrome (ESS,n=62) and group of normal thyroid hormones (NESS,n=104).The patients in normal thyroid hormones group were divided into three subgroups according to the levels of total triiodothyronine (TT3),(low-level group,n=26; middle-level group,n=50; high-level group,n=28).Levels of thyroid hormones,NT-proBNP,cholesterol,low-density lipoprotein cholesterol,fibrinogen,HbA1C,glomerular filtration rate (eGRF),left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) and the incidences of concomitant diseases were measured and detected.lgNT-proBNP was used to calculated after NT-proBNP was changed by Log transformation. Results Compared with NESS group,ESS group showed that age was increased, systolic pressure and LVEF were decreased [(86.3 ± 5.8) years vs.(85.6 ± 5.2) years,(126.6±15.5) mmHg vs.(135.6±17.8) mmHg,(63.9±7.6)% vs.(67.4±7.5)%,all P<0.01].Compared with NESS group,ESS group showed that the levels of serum total T3 and free T3 were decreased [(0.89±0.17) nmol/L vs.(1.45±0.31) nmol/L,(3.31±0.55) pmol/L vs.(3.96± 0.59) pmol/L,both P<0.01].The lgNT-proBNP level was higher and serum total thyroxine (TT4) level was lower in ESS group than in NESS group [(2.40±0.40) ng/L vs.(2.26±0.44) ng/L,(101.80±36.11) nmol/L vs.(111.07±23.29) nmol/L,both P<0.05].Pearson analysis revealed that serum levels of TT3,TT4 and FT3 were negatively correlated with lgNT-proBNP (r=-0.217,-0.180,-0.174,respectively,all P<0.05) after adjustment for age, systolic pressure and LVEF.Stepwise regressive analysis showed TT3 was the risk factors for lgNT-proBNP (β=-0.267,P< 0.01).Compared with the low-level group, the lgNT-proBNP were significantly reduced in the middle-,and high-level groups [(2.19±0.42) ng/L,(2.19±0.46) ng/L vs.(2.44±0.39) ng/L,both P<0.05].Conclusions TT3 has a close correlation with NT-proBNP in elderly type 2 diabetic patients with normal TSH.It has a significant meaning to test TT3 level for monitoring heart function in clinical medicine.

Purpose:To clarify the association between renal cysts and renal cell carcinoma (RCC), we analyzed the clinical characteristics of patients with renal cell carcinoma and renal cyst. Methods:From May 1996 to January 2004, a total of 198 patients were hospitalized for renal cell carcinoma in our department, and 64 patients had both renal cysts and renal cell carcinoma (RCC). The clinical characteristics of the 64 patients were evaluated, and compared to 106 renal cell carcinoma (RCC)patients without renal cysts from the 198 patients in the same period. Results:Renal cysts were identified by preoperative ultrasonography, computerized tomography and magnetic resonance imaging in 37%(22/59)、24%(15/61) and 35%(6/17) respectively. Histopathological examination revealed renal cyst in 15 patients (23%). The sizes of renal cyst were 0.5 to 12 cm. The pathological examinations showed clear cell carcinoma in 61, chromophilic cell carcinoma in 2 and a combined type of clear cell carcinoma and chromophilic cell carcinoma in 1. Compared to RCC patients with those without renal cyst, younger and male RCC patients were easier to also have with renal cyst(P

Objective To study the effect of the plasma exchange in the treatment of RITP with 2∶2∶1 exchange liquid. Methods 32 cases of RITP were treated with plasma exchange using CS 3000 blood cell separator. Results Plasma exchange could reduce the levels of harmful substances like PA Ig,PA C 3,CIC and raise the levels of platelet by 3 times. Conclusion Plasma exchange is effective in the treatment of RITP with 2∶2∶1 exchange liquid, with reliable outcome.

Chinese Pharmacological Bulletin 1987;0(01):-
Royal jelly (2.5g/kg/d igX8d) increased the clearance rate of iv charcoal particles in normal mice, and completely antagonized the decrease of clearance rate caused by cortisone acetate. It also potentiated the delayed type hypersensitivity ( DTH ) reaction of footpad induced by SRBC in normal mice, and entirely antagonized the inhibition of DTH reaction caused by eye lophosphamide. Royal jelly (2.5 g/kg/d ig X 7 d ) had no marked influence on hemolysin formation in normal mice and immunosuppressed mice caused by eye lophosphamide.

Objective To explore the clinical characteristics and risk factors of re-fracture in patients suffering from osteoporosis-related fractures as well as effective interventions. Methods From January 2006 to January 2008,a total of 273 patients with osteoporosis-related fracture were entered in the study, including out-patients and in-patients who were over 50 years old.The patients were divided into fracture group(n=225)and re-fracture group(n=48).The re-fracture rate was followed up for 2 years, during which 11 patients developed re-fracture.General data including age and sex, fracture types, femoral neck bone mineral density(BMD)T-scores tested by dual-energy X-rays absorptiometry(DEXA),Charlson index, timeinterval between two fractures as well as mobility skill assessment were collected and analyzed. Results The average age at the first fracture was 67.7±8.5 years vs.72.7±9.5 years for the re-fracture cases.Female accounted for 70.2% of the fracture group and 77.1% of the re-fracture group. The most common re-fracture type was vertebral fracture for the first time and femoral neck fracture for the second time during the followup.Risk factors for a second fracture in osteoporotic fractures patients include age(>75 years,HR=1.23; >85years,HR=1.68),female sex(HR=1.36),prior vertebral fractures(HR=1.62),prior hip fractures(HR=1.27),BMD T-score<-3.5(HR=1.38)and weakened motor skills(HR=1.27).The refracture rate in osteoporosis-related fractures was 4.9% followed up for 2 years. The second fracture happened 3.7 years after the first one on average. Conclusion The risks of second fracture among patients with initial brittle fracture are substantial.Mobility skill assessment is an important risk factor for osteoporosis fractures recurrence. There is adequate time between fracture and re-fracture for effective interventions to prevent or reduce the risks of refracture, especially for the old women with a vertebral or hip fracture.Medication, motor function rehabilitation and fall-down prevention training would be helpful.

AIM:To observe the effect of altitude hypoxia on ?-aminobutyric (GABA) content and prepro-somatostatin mRNA (PPS-mRNA) in the rat hypothalamus. METHODS: Using altitude hypoxia model,in situ hybridization and amino acid analyzer, the number of PPS-mRNA and GABA content in rat hypothalamus was determined. RESULTS:After altitude hypoxia, the contents of GABA in hypothalamus and the number of PPS-mRNA neurons in periventricular nucleus (PeVN), paraventricular nucleus (PaVN) and arcuate nucleus (ArcN) increased significiantly. Bicuculline, a GABA receptor antagonits, could enhance PPS-mRNA expression evoked by altitude hypoxia, but had no effect on GABA content. CONCLUSION: Altitude hypoxia can induce neurotransmitter imbalance of hypothalamus.
