Objective To observe the characteristics of the images of optical coherence tomography (OCT) performed on the patients with vitreomacular traction syndrome and its clinical significance. Methods The clinical data of 25 patients with vitreomacular traction syndrome diagnosed by OCT, fundus fluorescein angiography, and B-scan ultrasonography and confirmed by surgical treatment were retrospectively analyzed. The features of images of OCT in vitreomacular traction syndrome were observed. Results Five types were found in the images of OCT in the patients with vetreomacular traction syndrome. The main characteristic of the images of OCT in the patients with vitreomacular traction was the highly reflective band of the vitreous posterior cortex inservion at fovea. In 25 patients, vitreomacular traction associated with macular edema was found in 10, macular hole in 3, macular epiretinal membrane in 6, retinoschisis in 1, and retinal detachment in 5. Conclusion OCT is a potential powerful toll for detecting and monitoring vitreomacular traction syndrome.

ObjectiveTo evaluate biomechanical properties of transoralpharyngeal atlantoaxial reduction plate (TARP) prepared from magnesium alloy and titanium alloy for the atlantoaxial dislocation by using three-dimensional finite element analysis and to exam the feasibility of using magnesium alloy for preparation of TARP system so as to provide a theoretical basis for clinical surgery.MethodsA patient with typical atlantoaxial fracture dislocation was involved in the study,and received thin CT scan with clinically used titanium alloy TARP system for obtaining DICOM image data.Three-dimensional finite element analysis software was imported to simulate magnesium alloy and titanium alloy TARP systems for reduction and fixation.Then,stress changes of the atlas,axis,internal fixators and C2/3 zygapophysial joints were determined with three-dimensional finite element analysis and analyzed statistically.Results ( 1 ) The finite element model of atlantoaxial dislocation reduction and fixation had lifelike outline and good geometric similarity.There were 53 586 nodes and 180 784 units.(2) During the simulation of head in neutral position,the stress concentration region was C2/3 zygapophysial joints followed by the anterior arch,posterior arch and lateral mass of atlas respectively,and C2 vertebral arch again.( 3 )Magnesium alloy and titanium alloy TARP systems showed significant difference in stress distribution (P ＜0.05).Conclusions(1)The atlantoaxial model established according to its structure information on CT can be used for biomechanical experiments.(2) For the treatment of atlantoaxial dislocation using the existing titanium TARP system,maintaining the integrity of anterior and posterior arch of atlas and confirming the bone fusion in lateral mass can better keep the stability of the atlantoaxis.After atlantoaxial fusion,the increased stress of the zygapophysial joints of the adjacent segments accelerates structural degeneration,which should be closely followed up.( 3 ) Magnesium alloy TARP system for fixation and reduction shows the fall in peak value of the stress concentration region,and improvement of the uniformity of stress distribution as compared with titanium alloy TARP.

Aim To investigate the effect of polysac-charide of Cistanche deserticola ( CDPS) on the impro-ving ability of synaptic plasticity in memory acquisition impairment model mice induced by scopolamine. Methods The KM mice were randomly divided into six groups:scopolamine group, control group, CDPS-treated (25, 50, 100 mg·kg-1 ) group and donepezil group. Memory acquisition impairment model in mice was established with i. p. scopolamine (4 mg·kg-1 ) only once, and orally administered CDPS (25, 50, or 100 mg · kg-1 ) daily for 6 weeks before scopolamine injection. Experimental groups were subjected to step-down test and Morris water maze test. Western blot and RT-PCR analysis were used to examine the expression of GAP-43 , SYP and PSD-95 . Transmission electron
microscope was used to observe the change of synaptic number and structures. Results CDPS (25,50,100 mg·kg-1 ) could shorten the incubation period of mice in the water maze test. Control group and CDPS-treated group swam longer in Q3 than scopolamine group. Mo-reover, CDPS (50,100 mg·kg-1 ) could significantly reduce the error times and extend the incubation period in the step-down test. The results of Western blot and RT-PCR showed that CDPS significantly improved the expression of GAP-43 at the dose of 25 ,50 mg · kg-1 and SYP at the dose of 25,50, 100 mg·kg-1 in hip-pocampus of mice. However, the biochemical assays did not reveal a significant difference in the basal hipp-ocampal levels of the PSD-95 . The ultra-thin speci-mens of hippocampus showed that the number of syn-
apse was increased in CDPS-treated group. Conclu-sions Scopolamine can induce the learning and mem-ory deficits in mice to make related protein expression abnormalities in hippocampus mice, thus this causes the change of synaptic plasticity, which leads to a change in the ability of learning and memory. And CDPS can improve the expression of SYP and GAP-43 ,
increase number of synapses, recover synaptic plastici-ty, and improve the ability of learning and memory in mice.

Purpose The aim of this study is to define molecular sub-healthy status among individuals attending routine physical examination.Methods This study examined 8 blood tumor markers among 5 825 healthy individuals.Results (1) Differences in levels of tumor markers were observed between males and females.(2) Elevated CA72-4 levels were seen in 16.05％ of individuals in both sexes.(3) More males had elevated levels of CEA and CYFRA21-1.Among the individuals with elevated levels of tumor markers,most were clustered in the prime age group of 41 to 50 years.Conclusion This is the first large-sample survey in healthy Han population in Xinjiang,which found elevated levels of all 8 markers tested with varying rates.Accordingly,this study proposes for the first time a concept of molecular sub-healthy status and a strategy of early tumor screening at molecular level.The molecular sub-healthy status may be an early warning sign for potential cancers,which should draw attention by preventive public health policies.

OBJECTIVETo analyze the related factors of the infection after operation of open tibiofibula fractures.

METHODSThe clinical data of 141 patients with open tibiofibula fractures underwent surgical treatment from June 2009 to December 2012 were retrospectively analyzed. All the patients were male and aged from 18 to 61 years old with an average of 39.2 years; all the fractures were unilateral. According to Gustilo typing of fracure, 5 cases were type I, 44 cases were type II, 27 cases were type III a, 56 cases were type III b and 9 cases were type III c. These clinical data included patients' age, gender, body mass index (BMI), underlying diseases, time of operation, fracture site, fracture type, fixation method, postoperative drainage, debridement condition and so on. The postoperative infection conditions were recorded, and the correlation between above factors and infections were analyzed. Finally, the significant related variables were introduced into a Logistic regression model to evaluated their risk.

RESULTSAmong the 141 patients, 22 cases developed with infection (15.6%). The significant relative factors with infection contained fixation method, debridement condition, underlying diseases and postoperative drainage (P < 0.05). The correlativities were stepped up in order, their odds ratios value was 2.451, 3.164, 3.414, 5.117, respectively.

CONCLUSIONActive treatment for underlying diseases before operation, thorough debridement for open wound, suitable fixation method for fracture and thorough draining are effective measures in preventing postoperative infection.

In this paper, miRNAs features were briefly introduced and agreeable points were discussed from 4 aspects: organs relationship, syndrome research, Chinese medical pathogeneses, and actions of Chinese herbs. miRNAs, as information media for organs interrelation, was believed to explain Chinese medical pathogeneses and reveal partial molecular mechanisms of Chinese medicine. miRNAs in the body fluid could be taken as one of biological bases of syndromes.

OBJECTIVETo explore the effect of drug-containing serum of Chinese herbal compounds [Xiongshao Capsule (XS, for activating blood) and Huanglian Capsule (HL, for dispelling toxin)] on tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha)-induced adherence between human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) and polymorphonuclear neutrophils (PMN), inflammatory reaction and expression of related proteins in mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) pathway.

METHODSThirty-two rats were randomly divided into four groups (8 in each group) using random digit table: the blank control group treated with distilled water, the test group I treated with Chinese herbal compound of XS (0.135 g/kg), the test group II treated with Chinese herbal compound of HL (0.135 g/kg), and the test group Ill treated with Chinese herbal compound of XS (0.135 g/kg) and HL (0.135 g/kg). All medication was given by gastrogavage once a day for a week. Rats' blood serum was harvested 1 h after the last administration to prepare drug-containing serum. HUVECs were exposed to TNF-alpha (100 ng/mL) to induce cell injury model and incubated with corresponding drug-containing serum (10%) for 24 h. Normal rats' serum was given to cells in the blank control group and the model group, while XC + HL containing serum was given to cells in the rest 3 groups. The adherence of HUVECs and PMN cells was detected by using rose bengal strain. Levels of E-selectin, intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1), and interleukin-1beta (IL-1P) in the supernatant of cultured HU-VECs were determined by ELISA. Protein expressions of mitogen-activated protein kinases p38 (p38MAPK) and extracellular signal-regulated kinase 1/2 (ERK 12) were determined by Western blot.

RESULTSCompared with the blank control group, HUVECs were seriously injured; PMN adherence amount significantly increased; levels of E-selectin, ICAM-1, and IL-1beta increased; expression levels of p-p38MAPK and p-ERK 1/2 in the supernatant of HUVECs significantly increased in the model group (all P < 0.01). Compared with the model group, HUVECs-PMN adherence amount decreased (P < 0.05); levels of E-selectin, ICAM-1, and IL-1 beta in the supernatant of HUVECs decreased (P < 0.01, P < 0.05); expression levels of p-p38MAPK and p-ERK 1/2 of endothelial cells decreased in the test group I, II, and III (P < 0.01).

CONCLUSIONSDrug-containing serums of activating blood, activating blood and dispelling toxin could attenuate TNF-alpha induced injury of HUVECs, inhibit HUVECs-PMN adherence and the release of adhesion factors. Its mechanism might be involved with protein phosphorylation of p38MAPK and ERK 1/2 in the MAPK pathway.

Objective: To identify the differential proteins in the serum with anti-asthma activity of acupuncture to pinpoint the substance basis of anti-asthma activity of acupuncture by proteomics method. Methods: Two-dimensional electrophoresis of protein was employed to analyze the differential proteins in the serum with anti-asthma activity of acupuncture, and identify the differential proteins with mass spectrum technique. Results: In adrenalectomy (ADX)-asthma acupuncture group and asthma acupuncture group, two-dimensional electrophoresis showed that there was an obvious fuscous point (MW=44.1kD, PI=5.1), which was 60S ribosomal protein L13, or hypothetical protein FLJ32191 analyzed by mass spectrum technique, different from other groups. In ADX-asthma acupuncture group, there were two obviously fuscous points (MW=39.SkD, PI=4.9 and MW=39.SkD, PI=5.0), which were zinc finger protein 208, and thyroid hormone receptor-associated protein analyzed by mass spectrum technique, and two special proteins (MW=17.3kD, PI<4.5 and 16.9kD, PI<4.5), which were Cyclophilin A and zinc finger protein 91 analyzed by mass spectrum technique, different from other groups. Conclusion: There are multi-target effects regulating the whole body in acupuncture treating asthma relating to immunoloregulation, gene expression, and protein synthesization. The effects of acupuncture on the response proteins need further research.
