Objective To study the incidences of falls in patients with Parkinson's disease and analyze the related factors. Methods The clinic data of 100 Parkinson's patients were retrospectively analyzed to investigate the fall incidence and the related factors. Results The fall incidence was 46.0%during hospitalization in the patients with Parkinson's disease. The single factor analysis showed that the falls incidence were higher in male patients, dizziness from drug factors,a history of falls and non-presence of their families during hospitalization than those in the non-fall group(P<0.05).Logistic regression analysis showed that male patients, dizziness from drug factors,a history of falls and non-presence of their families during hospitalization were risk factors for Parkinson's patients during hospitalization.(all P<0.05). Conclusions The high risk factors for the falls in Parkinson's patients include male patients, dizziness from drug factors,a history of falls and non-presence of their families during hospitalization. Therefore, the assessment of the risk factors for falls should be done so as to carry out fall factors control and fall risks classification management for the purpose of reducing falls.

Background Cardiomyocytes apoptosis was related to oxidative stress which has been shown to play an important role in ventricular remodeling after myocardial infarction(MI).Probucol is a hypolipidemic and antioxidant agents.Several reports demonstrated its cardioprotective effect after MI.However, the exact effect of probucol on the modification of the apoptosis related gene Bcl-2 and Bax is not clear. Objective To investigate the effects of probucol on mRNA and protein expression of Bcl-2,Bax and oxidative stress in myocardial infarcted rats. Methods Forty-one SD rats that survived 24 h after ligating left anterior descending coronary artery were randomly to receive placebo-saline(5 mL/d,n=20)or probucol(probucol 60 mg/kg?d,n=21).Twelve rats underwent sham operation were served as control(n=12).Six weeks after treatment, hemodynamic pararmeters and left ventricular function were measured with catheterization.Cardiomyocytes apoptosis were determined by TUNEL method.Myocardium mRNA of Bcl-2 and Bax expression levels in the non-infarcted myocardium were as- sessed by RT-PCR.The myocardium protein expression of Bcl-2 and Bax in the non-infarcted myocardium were de- termined by Western blot.Colorimetry was used to determine oxidative metabolism index in myocardium. Results 1)Compared with the sham rats, all MI rats showed marked decrease in Bcl-2 mRNA and protein expression in myo- cardium with increase of Bax mRNA and protein expression and apoptosis index(P

Objective To evaluate the effect of penehyclidine hydrochloride (PHC) on the level of angiopoietin-1 (Ang-1) and tyrosine kinase receptor-2 (Tie-2) during endotoxin-induced acute lung injury (ALI) in rats. Methods Forty adult male Sprague-Dawley rats, weighing 180-220 g,were randomly divided into 4 groups using a random number table (n =10 each):control group (group C),ALI group,low-dose PHC group (group L-PHC) and high-dose PHC group (group H-PHC).ALI was induced with iv injection of lipopolysaccharide 5.0 mg/kg via the tail vein.In L-PHC and H-PHC groups,PHC 0.6 and 2 mg/kg were injected, respectively, via the tail vein at 1 and 24 h after lipopolysaccharide injection. The rats were sacrificed at 48 h after the initial injection of PHC to measure the lung water content, protein concentration in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF),and the expression of Ang-1,Tie-2 and phosphorylated Tie-2 in lung tissues. The morphological changes of lung tissues were observed under light microscope and the ultrastructural changes of alveolar epithelial barrier under transmission electron microscope. Results Compared with group C,the lung water content and protein concentrations in BALF were significantly increased, and the expression of Ang-1 and phosphorylated Tie-2 was down-regulated in the other three groups (P < 0.05).Compared with group ALI,the lung water content and protein concentrations in BALF were significantly decreased, and the expression of Ang-1 and phosphorylated Tie-2 was up-regulated in H-PHC group (P < 0.05),and no significant changes were found in the parameters mentioned above in group L-PHC (P >0.05).The damage to lung tissues was significantly reduced in group H-PHC as compared with group ALI.Conclusion PHC can improve the permeability of pulmonary microvascular and reduce injury to alveolar epithelial barrier, thus ameliorating endotoxin-induced ALI in rats, and the effect is dose-related and up-regulation of Ang-1 expression and inhancement of Tie-2 activity are involved in the mechanism.

Journal of Integrative Medicine 2006;4(3):260-4
OBJECTIVE: To observe the changes of volt-ampere characteristics of Yuan-Primary acupoints in women before, during and after menstruation, and to find out the relationships between Qi-blood in human body and volt-ampere characteristics of acupoints, so as to develop a new method for quantitative analysis on changes of Qi-blood. METHODS: A high-sensitive detection system of volt-ampere characteristics of acupoint was applied to detecting the volt-ampere characteristics of Taiyuan (LU 9), Daling (PC 7) and Shenmen (HT 7) in healthy women before, during and after menstruation. RESULTS: The resistances on LU 9, PC 7 and HT 7 with some certain scan currents were quite different among the women before, during and after menstruation. For such changes, PC 7 was of the most obvious change, LU 9 was of the less and HT 7 was of the least. The total ratio of the scanning spots with significantly increasing changes of resistances on these three acupoints along with the menstrual process was 70.6%. CONCLUSION: The volt-ampere characteristics of acupoints vary with the menstrual process, which is of the acupoint specificity. The resistances on the acupoints increase with the menstrual process, and such results may be due to the blood loss during menstruation. The volt-ampere characteristics can be used as a quantitative index to study on the change of Qi and blood.
