1.Holistic Healing Work of Christianity.

The purpose of this study was to identify calls, roles and attitudes of the Christian medical staff in a modern medical system for holistic healing through belief in God's healing methods and God's view about medical treatment. The meaning of healing in the Bible is derived from Rapha in the Old Testament, it's meaning is 'heal wound', 'restore to original condition', 'repair', 'console' and 'be heal'. In the New Testament, the meaning of healing is 'to serve' and 'be in one's service' derived from Therapuein and 'preserve', 'rescue', 'save a life from death' derived from Sozo. Therefore the meaning of the healing in the Bible is restoring original completeness to the same as God's characteristics. The meaning of disease is physical, psychological, social and spiritual imbalance or disharmonious. Disease is usually depravity from moral life to immoral life and abnormal life process with accompanying specific symptoms. Medical staff were called to God's work, recognized God's will for them, and absolutely leaned on God's power to intervene and work above spatial-temporal transcendently. They use spiritual power with medical treatment skills, help sick people to possibly have dynamic and individual relation with God and help to maintain their well-being and complete healing. Attitudes of medical staff were compassion and love, virtue of modesty, strong and daring, patience with belief, healing with God's word, using spiritual insight, play, using medical knowledge and techniques, continuing spiritual training, laying on of hands and repentance.

2.Relationship between Fatigue, Sleep Disturbance, and Gestational Stress among Pregnant Women in the Late Stages.

PURPOSE: The objective of this study was to investigate the relationship between fatigue, sleep disturbance, and gestational stress in women during late stage of pregnancy. METHODS: This study was conducted with 113 healthy pregnant women at gestational age greater than 27 weeks who were registered at community health centers and received prenatal care. A structured questionnaire regarding fatigue, sleep disturbance, and gestational stress was used. The data was analyzed using a t-test, an ANOVA, and Pearson correlation coefficients. RESULTS: The subjects with unplanned pregnancies and irregular exercise patterns showed a higher level of fatigue than those with planned pregnancies and regular exercise patterns. Pregnant women with caffeine intake manifested higher levels of gestational stress and sleep disturbance than those without. The levels of sleep disturbance and gestational stress increased as the fatigue levels increased. The fatigue levels increased with increased levels of sleep disturbance. CONCLUSION: Planned pregnancy, regular exercise patterns, and caffeine intake were related with fatigue, sleep disturbance, and gestational stress in women during late stages of pregnancy. Fatigue, sleep disturbance, and gestational stress had close associations to each other. In the future, such results should guide development of nursing intervention programs for women in late stages of pregnancy.

5.Electrodiagnostic Alteration to Temperature Effect in Demyelinating Peripheral Neuropathy.

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to determine the difference of temperature effects on the nerve conduction variables and to obtain correction factors for temperature in demyelinated and normal peripheral nerves. METHOD: The compound muscle action potentials (CMAPs) were recorded with wrist stimulation during cooling and warming in 10 control subjects and 13 subjects with demyelinating neuropathies. The temperature of cooling and warming were 18degrees C and 40degrees C, respectively. The time of cooling and warming were 60 minutes and composed of successive 4 sessions of 15 minutes. The skin temperature of thenar area, latency, amplitude, duration, and area of CMAPs were measured before and after each session of 15 minutes of cooling or warming. RESULTS: The time constants of parameters of CMAPs were of higher tendency in cooling than in warming. The time constants of latency of CMAP were higher in subjects with demyelinating neuropathy than in controls (p<0.05): 33.3+/-4.0 minutes versus 27.2+/-2.2 minutes in cooling; 30.0+/-7.8 minutes versus 19.6+/-3.3 minutes in warming. The temperature correction factor of latency of CMAPs was 0.23+/-0.03 msec/degrees C in control and 0.33+/-0.06 msec/degrees C in subjects with demyelinating neuropathies (p<0.05). CONCLUSION: When studying a subject with demyelinating neuropathies, we should warm the extremity for more sufficient time than in normal subject, or may applicate a differenct temperature correction factors.

6.A study of cisplatin nephrotoxicity.

To evaluate the nephrotoxicity of cisplatin, serum levels of sodium, potassium, chloride, calcium, phosphorous, magnesium, BUN, creatinine and creatinine clearance were measured before and after administration of cisplatin in 18 cases of patients with malignant neoplasm. The results were as follows: 1) Serum calcium, magnesium, potassium and BUN levels were changed after cisplatin administration, but those changes were not statistically significant. 2) The mean value of creatinine clearance was not decreased significantly after treatment with cisplatin. 3) Acute renal failure was developed in one case, and four cases of hypocalcemia, hypomagnesemia were also detected after administration of cisplatin.

7.Plasma levels of oral methotrexate in children receiving maintenance chemotherapy for acute lymphocytic leukemia.

This study was conducted to investigate plasma levels of oral methotrexate in rabbits and children receiving maintenance chemotherapy for acute lymphocytic leukemia. Eight New Zealand white rabbits, weighing 2kg in body weight, were divided into 3 groups and 5mg of methotrexate from 3 different manufactorying company was administered to the each group rabbits via nasogastric tube. Time to peak concentration ranged from 30 minutes to 3 hours (mean 1.2+/-0.9 hour)and the peak plasma concentration ranged from 0.08 micro M to 0.21micron M(mean 0.14+/-0.05 micronM)and area under the plasma concentration-time curve ranged from 0.6micron M.hr to 1.66micron M,hr (mean 1.06+/-0.36micronM,hr). There were no statistically significant difference in AUC of methotrexate in 3 groups, but interindividual variability in plasma levels of methotrexate was noted. Twelve patients with ALL who were receiving maintenance chemotherapy at pediatric department of Yeungnam University Hospital from August, 1988 to August, 1991 were studied. Plasma levels of oral methotrexale were monitored following an oral dose of 3.3 mg~10mg/m2 which was modified from recommended dose of 10 mg/m2 due to hepatotoxicity or myelosuppression. Time to peak concentration ranged from 30 minutes to 2 hours(mean 1.2+/-0.4 hour) and the peak plasma concentration ranged from 0.34 micron M to 0.8 micron M (mean 0.58+/-0.18micron M). The area under the plasma concentration-time curve ranged from 1.25micron M,hr to 3.79 micronM,hr (mean 2.71+/-0.84microM,hr)while standard area under the plasma concentration-time curve ranged from 0.13micronM, hr/mg/m2 to 0.54micronM, hr/mg/m2 (mean0.4+/-0.15micronM hr/mg/m2).Interindividual variability in plasma levels following an oral dose of methotrexate was noted. Peak plasma concentrations of study patients were all less than 1 micronM which is necessary for antileukemic effect of methotrexate in vitro. It seems to be necessary to increase the dose of methotrexate for all study patients, however optimal dose increment of methotrexate avoiding hepatotoxicity and myelosuppression need to be investigated further and measurement of plasma level of methotrexate is recommended when dose modification of methotrexate is made.

8.MR Imaging of Childhood Metachromatic Leukodystrophy.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to analyze the characteristic MR findings of childhood metachromatic leukodystrophy. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Five female patients (10--29 months old;mean age, 21.8 months) of biochemically confirmed metachromatic leukodystrophy were included in this study. We evaluated the extent of white matter degeneration, which was shown as high signal intensity on T2-weighted image, and the presence or absence of the enhancement. Result.' All 5 cases showed high signal intensity in periventricular deep white matter and centrum semiovale which were bilateral, symmetric and confluent. Posterior predominace, sparing of subcortical U fibers and immediate periventricular white matter, and the involvement of splenium of corpus callosum were also noted in all cases. There were other manifestations, such as 'tigroid pattern' in centrum semiovale (n=4), the involvement of genu of corpus callosum(n=4), posterior limb of internal capsule(n=4), descending pyramidal tracts (n=3), deep cerebellar white matter(n=1), claustrum(n=2), and diffuse brain atrophy(n=1). In three cases with Gd-infusion, contrast enhancement of the lesion was not seen. CONCLUSION: In childhood metachromatic leukodystrophy, MRI can clearly demonstrate the chracteristic extent of the white matter lesion and other associated findings, facilitating the differential diagnosis from other similar leukodystrophies.

9.Mood State, Interaction Anxiety and Quality of Life of Cancer Patients with Chemotherapy-induced Alopecia.

PURPOSE: This study was examined to identify the relationship between mood state, interaction anxiety, and quality of life of cancer patients with chemotherapy-induced alopecia. METHODS: The participants were 115 cancer patients. Data were collected from August to December 2012, and analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation coefficients, t-test, ANOVA and Duncan's multiple test. RESULTS: The mean scores of mood state (119.17+/-35.94), interaction anxiety (45.57+/-11.73), and global health status (38.08+/-22.45), functional scales (45.41+/-20.98), symptom scales (57.96+/-18.28) in quality of life were moderate or below. Negative correlations were found between mood state and quality of life, interaction anxiety and quality of life, but positive correlation were found between mood state and interaction anxiety. CONCLUSION: These findings indicate that mood state and interaction anxiety are important factors to improve quality of life of cancer patients with chemotherapy-induced alopecia, And it is meaningful in that this study prepared basic data for development of nursing intervention programs for effective management of chemotherapy-induced alopecia.
