Objective: To approach a better solution for enhancing the therapeutic results of acupuncture therapy in the treatment of Tourette syndrome, by observing the clinical results of combined scalp with body acupuncture and mono-body acupuncture. Methods: Fifty-seven patients were randomized into a treatment group (31 cases) and a control group (26 cases). The patients in the treatment group all received combined scalp-body acupuncture treatment, while the patients in the control group were given mono-body acupuncture treatment, for 1 month as a treatment session. At the end of the third treatment session, the Yale Global Tic Severity Scale (YGTSS) would be compared between pre- and post-treatment. Results: In the treatment group, 2 patients were clinically cured, 4 showed markedly effective, 18 showed effective, and 7 failed, making a total therapeutic rate of 77.4%. In the control group, 0 were clinically cured, 3 showed markedly effective, 9 showed effective, 14 failed, making a total therapeutic rate of 46.2%. There was a significant difference between the two total therapeutic rates (P<0.05). Conclusion: The combination of scalp and body acupuncture had a better therapeutic result than the mono-body acupuncture therapy in the treatment Fifty-of Tourette syndrome.
3.Treatment of superior vena cava syndrome caused by malignant tumour
Cancer Research and Clinic 1999;0(05):-
Superior vena cava syndrome(SVCS) is caused by malignant tumour, often showing tumour crisis. The prognosis is bad. It will endanger the life frequently if not cured in time. It is argued which is the preferred treatment on radiotherapy, chemotherapy, surgery or colligate therapy etc. Now we introduce briefly correlated study in the near future, pointting out the colligate therapy trend of SVCS.

Objective To investigate CT examination in the evaluation of the percutaneous radio frequency ablation (RFA) in the treatment of hepatic carcinoma. Methods 50 cases of hepatic carcinoma (including primary hepatic cancer 36 and hepatic metastases 14) with 76 lesions treated by RFA associated with pre and post procedure data of CT follow up were analyzed retrospectively. CT examinations including plain and contrast enhanced CT scanning were carried out at 1 week and 3 weeks after the RFA, but sometimes with furthermore intermittent scanning at 3~6 months. Results Complete ablation of the tumors occurred in 49 lesions (64.5%) of 35 cases and incomplete ablation of tumors happened in 27 lesions (35.5%) of 18 cases. Among RFA treated 76 lesions, there were 9 with internal hemorrhage, 1 with abscess formation. 3 cases showed intraperitoneal bleeding; 6 cases demonstrated reactive pleural effusion and 1 case revealed with small amount of pneumothorx. Conclusions The contrast enhanced CT scanning provides a great diagnostic value for evaluation of the efficacy of hepatic tumor treated by RFA and also the local recurrence and complications.

Journal of Integrative Medicine 2006;4(6):556-9
Radix Glycyrrhizae is a commonly used herbal drug for traditional Chinese medicine in China, and it is also an important material for drug, food, chemical industry, and dye industry. Furthermore, in Northwest China, Radix Glycyrrhizae acts as a key plant for preventing desertification, which currently is the most serious environmental problem in China. This report concentrated on discussing the great potential value of Glycyrrhiza on ecosystem, introducing the principles of protection and sustainable utilization of Glycyrrhiza resource, offering the suitable methods of utilization, and suggesting how to carry out the research on the substitute drugs. To protect the ecosystem and herbal resource of Radix Glycyrrhizae, we should use this herb in a more reasonable way.

AIM: To study the effects of acute HIV-1 infection on gene expression in U937 human promonocyte for understanding the pathogenecis of AIDS. METHODS: The expression levels of 550 host cell RNA transcripts in U937 human promonocyte at 2-3 d after HIV-1 infection were assessed using cDNA microarray analysis, and the results were confirmed by semiquantitative RT-PCR. RESULTS: Our results showed that 38 genes were differentially regulated in the infected U937 cells at 2-3 d post infection: 26 genes were down-regulated and 12 genes were up-regulated. These genes encode a host of proteins with divergent functions in a variety of cellular processes including receptor-mediated signaling transduction, subcellular signal trafficking, apoptosis, transcriptional regulation, and chemotaxis. CONCLUSION: HIV-1 infection alters gene expression in U937 human promonocytes.

OBJECTIVE To explore the resistance of Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolated in clinic against five antiseptics involving in povidone iodine(Iodophor),glutaraldehyde, chlorhexidine, symclosene(trichloroisocyanurate) and benzalkonium bromide.METHODS The susceptibility test of P.aeruginosa was determined by PhoenixTM-100 system.Minimun inhibitory concentration(MIC) of povidone iodine, glutaraldehyde, chlorhexidine, symclosene and benzalkonium bromide was detected by liquid dilution method.RESULTS The resistant rates of ampicillin/sulbactam,chloramphenicol,tetracycline and trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole in 190 isolates of P.aeruginosa were all more than 98.0%.However,P.aeruginosa was to imipenem and meropenem were 15.3% and 6.8%.It was found that P.aeruginosa possessed the most resistant to glutaraldehyde and symclosene with its MIC50 being 32 ?g/ml and 64 ?g/ml.But the MIC50 of chlorhexidine and benzalkonium bromide were only 1 ?g/ml and 2.4 ?g/ml.Meanwhile,time-kill assays indicated that chlorhexidine could still produce rapid and powerful bactericidal effects at a concentration of 1MIC after 10 min treatment.CONCLUSIONS There are distinct differences in P.aeruginosa against povidone iodine, glutaraldehyde, chlorhexidine, symclosene and benzalkonium bromide. It is very important that antiseptics should be used rationally.Measurements should be taken to decrease dissemination of resistant bacteria and prevent nosocomial infection.
