Objective The aim of this study was to evaluate the clinical value and the possibilities of measuring the serum levels of pepsinogen I (PG I ) and careineembryonic antigen (CEA) in 402 patients with gastric ulcer.Methods The patients with gastric ulcer were all confirmed by either operation or gastrofiberscope,and divided into two groups,benign and malignant gastric ulcer.After comparing the relationship between the patients'clinical appearance and the Radioimmunoaasay(RIA) results,(CEA and PG I ).Results There were 73 patients were onfirmed malignant gastric ulee in 402 patients.The positive rate of PG was 52.05% (38/73).The positive rate of CEA was 64.38% (47/73).Both were 30.14% (22/73).Then there were 63(63/73) patients who was positive in the combined determination.Solo determination's positive rate of CEA and PG were significantly different from the combined determination.(P＜0.05 and 0.01) Conclusions Feasibility and the necessity of combined determination were evaluated.Compared with solo determination,for patients with malignant gastric ulcer,it was more sensitive to determine and analysis the serum levels of PG I and CEA sYnthetically.So it is recommended to popularize the combined determination of serum PG I and CEA in clinical distinctive diagnosis of benign and malignant gastric ulcer.

Objective To discuss the clinical curative effect of pleating of levator palpebrae superioris in treating semiptosis. Design Retrospective case series. Participants Forty-three eyes from 30 patients with semiptosis of upper eyelid. Methods By using pleating of levator palpebrae superioris through the skin,isolating the levator muscle was skipped in rectification. Position of upper eyelid-margin before and after operation was observed. Main Outcome Measures The position change of upper eyelid-margin in the first position of eye in 3-6 months after surgery. Results The mean follow-up period was 13.1 months (6 months to 2 years),26 cases (39 eyes) got cured with normal eyelid-margin position,3 patients were below rectification and 1 patient over-rectification. Conclusion Pleating of levator palpebrae superioris is suitable for the treatment of semiptosis of upper eyelid.

Objective To investigate the changes of serum insulin-like growth factor-2 (IGF-2) and insulin-link growth factor binding protein-3(IGFBP-3) in the patients with ovarian cancer before and after operation,and evaluate their clinical significance.MethodsThe contents of serum IGF-2 and IGFBP-3 in 82 patients with ovarian cancer were detected by ELISA before and after operation and compared with that in health controls.ResultsThe contents of IGF-2 in the patients before operation were significantly higher than that in control group[(101.5±22.2)ng/ml,(49.3±15.6)ng/ml vs (69.6±17.7)ng/ml,(23.9±11.3)ng/ml,t＝3.74,2.85,P＜0.05].The contents of IGFBP-3[(39.8±11.1)ng/ml]in the patients before operation were significantly lower than that in control group[(55.8±19.2)ng/ml](t′＝4.49,P＜0.05).There was significant correlation between the contents with lymph node metastasis and clinical stage[(107.5±24.0)ng/ml,(41.7±16.9)ng/ml vs (91.6±17.7)ng/ml,(56.9±19.1)ng/ml;(103.4±27.2)ng/ml,(50.2±16.6)ng/ml vs (86.6±12.3)ng/ml,(41.1±17.1)ng/ml,t＝2.83,2.37,2.48,3.32,P＜0.05).The contents of IGF-2 was significantly decreased,and IGFBP-3 was significantly increased in patients after radical operation [(86.6±12.3)ng/ml,(41.1±17.1)ng/ml vs (103.2±26.0)ng/ml,(45.3±14.9)ng/ml,t′＝3.46,t＝2.67,P＜0.05].But there was no significant difference on the level of IGF-2 and IGFBP-3 before and after palliative resection(P＞0.05).ConclusionsThe contents of serum IGF-2 and IGFBP-3 are closely related to tumor invasion,metastasis and clinical stage.Dynamic determination of the contents of serum IGF-2 and IGFBP-3 may be an important index for evaluation of invasion,metastasis,efficacy and prognosis for the patients with ovarian cancer.

Objective To evaluate the effect of tacalcitol on the proliferation,adhesion,migration and c-kit mRNA expression of cultured human epidermal melanocytes.Methods Cultured epidermal melanocytes from the prepuce of adolescent males were treated with various concentrations of tacalcitol.Then,cell proliferation was evaluated by tetrazolium salt (XTT) assay after 24,48 and 72 hours of treatment,adhesive activity by using fibronectin-coated culture plates after 72 hours,migratory activity by Transwell assay using a microporous membrane after 24 hours,and the c-kit mRNA expression was semiquantitatively analyzed by reverse transcription PCR after 72 hours of treatment.Statistical analysis was done by repeated-measure analysis of variance and completely random design analysis of variance.Results As repeated-measure analysis of variance showed,tacalcitol of 10-10,10-9,10-8,10-7 and 10-6 mol/L significantly promoted the proliferation of melanocytes (F =9.47,P ＜ 0.01),with significant differences in the promoting effect among various durations of treatment with different concentrations of tacalcitol (F =14.44,P ＜ 0.01),and with significant interaction effect between drug concentration and treatment duration (F =2.47,P ＜ 0.01).The highest proliferation level was observed in melanocytes treated with tacalcitol of 10-s mol/Lfor 72 hours.There was a significant increase in the adhesion rate of human epidermal melanocytes to fibronectin after treatment with tacalcitol of 10-8-10-7 mol/L for 72 hours (both P ＜ 0.01),number of melanocytes migrating through micropore membranes per high-power field (× 200) after treatment with tacalcitol of 10-9-10-8 mol/L for 24 hours (both P ＜ 0.01),and in the c-kit mRNA expression in melanocytes treated with tacalcitol of 10-9-10-7mol/L for 72 hours (all P ＜ 0.01).Conclusion Tacalcitol can promote melanocytes to proliferate,migrate,express c-kit mRNA,and adhere to fibronectin.

The fall risk was evaluated with Modified Falls Efficacy Scale (Chinese version) in 426 elderly hypertensive patients (hypertensive group) and 436 elderly people without hypertension (control group) from rural communities in Zhejiang Quzhou areas.The fall risk scores were compared between hypertensive group and control group ; and also between patients with history of falls and those without falls.The results showed that the average score was 8.62 ± 2.15 in hypertensive group and 9.35 ± 1.35 in control group (P ＜ 0.01).The average score was 6.94 ± 1.85 in hypertensive patients with history of falls (n =112) and 9.22 ± 1.42 in without history of falls (n =314) (P ＜0.01).Our study suggests that there is a higher fall risk in elderly hypertensive patients than in elderly people without hypertension; and fall risk assessment with Modified Falls Efficacy Scale (Chinese version) can be used for prediction of fall for the elderly people in rural community.

A total of 107 vitiligo patients were randomly divided into 3 groups.Group A received an intralesional injection of Bacillus Calmette-Guérin-polysaccharide nucleic acid (BCG-PSN) (n =34),group B Compound Glycyrrhizin Tablets (n =36) and group C both (n =37).Before treatment and 3 months after treatment,cellular immune function was detected for each group.Paired comparisons of 3 groups before and after treatment showed that CD4 +,CD4 +/CD8 + ratio increased (all P ＜ 0.05) and CD8 + decreased (P ＜0.05).After treatment,as compared with groups A and B,CD4 + increases (both P ＜ 0.05) and CD8 + decreased in group C (P ＜0.05).Group C had an efficiency rate of 91.9％ and it was higher than the other two groups (both P ＜ 0.05).An intralesional injection of BCG-PSN plus Compound Glycyrrhizin Tablets could improve immune function and treat vitiligo patients efficiently.

BACKGROUND:Mini-screw stability is primarily related to alveolar bone cortical thickness. It is necessary to learn cortical thickness to choose suitable implanting sites and predict success rate. OBJECTIVE:To evaluate the buccal cortical thickness in maxilary posterior area of Class II Division I malocclusion adolescents. METHODS: Fifty-two adolescents (including 26 male and 26 female) of Class II Division I malocclusion scanned by Cone Beam Computer Tomography were involved in this study. The buccal cortical thickness of six posterior interradicular sites (14-15, 15-16, 16-17, 24-25, 25-26, 26-27) at four bone levels (2, 4, 6, 8 mm) from the alveolar crest in both boys and girls were measured. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: (1) There was no statisticaly significant difference in alveolar cortical thickness between left and right sides in the girls (P > 0.05); cortical thickness of 5-6 and 6-7 at 8 mm was thicker than that at 2 mm (P < 0.05) and cortical thickness of 6-7 at 2 mm was smaler than that at 8 mm (P < 0.05). The cortical thickness increased from crest to base of alveolar crest and reached the peak at 8 mm. Cortical thickness of 6-7 was thicker than 4-5 at 8 mm depth (P < 0.05). The results of males were the same as females. (2) There was no statisticaly significant difference in alveolar cortical thickness of the same site between males and females (P > 0.05). Al sites in this study were suitable for mini-screw implantation; from the first molar to posterior dental arch, buccal cortical thickness is wel-distributed; it is dangerous for implantation in the areas around the first molar more than 6 mm, where the frequent presence of the maxilary sinus is observed. There is an increase of buccal cortical thickness from crest to base of alveolar crest, obtaining good initial stability.

Objective To explore the case management model of return to work injured workers. Methods A retrospective cohort wasformed with 523 injured workers in rehabilitation centre. The social demographic information, medical data and intervention process wereextracted from the medical records. A Cox Regression Model was used to examine the effect of case management on work processes and otherrelevant factors affecting RTW. Results 275 cases (82.1%) out of the 335 subjects successfully returned to work after median absence durationof 36.0 days. Computer training prompted RTW outcomes (P<0.01), while disability adjustment activity showed an opposite effect(P<0.05). It showed that education level, family attitude to RTW and level of injury were significantly associated with outcomes of RTW.Conclusion Specific skills reconstruction and training would is one of the most important components of the case management interventionprogram on RTW. Although disability adjustment did not specifically benefit RTW, it might help in improving workers' general health status,and it should not be ignored in any case.

Objective To investigate the effect of glucocortieoids on tenasein C(TNC) expression in nasal polyp tissues and airway epithelia,and explore the possible mechanism of glucocorticoids inhibiting remodeling of nasal polyp tissue.Methods The enzyme linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA) was used to detect the protein levels of tenascin C and transforming growth factor-β1(TGF-β1) in nasal polyp tissues from intranasal glucocorticoids (Budesonide,BUD) treated group and untreated group.The cell culture,real-time RT-PCR and in situ ELISA were employed to investigate the regulatory effects of budesonide on the TNC mRNA and protein expression in BEAS-2B immortalized human bronchial epithelial cells.Results The protein levels of TNC and TGF-β1 were decreased in nasal polyp tissues from intranasal BUD-treated group as compared with untreated group(P<0.01).There was a significantly positive correlation between TNC and TGF-β1 protein levels in nasal polyp tissues (r =0.68,P<0.01).After preincubation with BUD,TNC mRNA and protein expression induced by TGF-β1 in BEAS-2B cells was significantly decreased(P<0.01).Conclusion Glucocorticoids might participate in the regulation of tissue remodeling in nasal polyp by inhibiting the TGF-β1 expression in nasal polyp tissue and suppressing the induction of TGF-β1 to up-regulatie the TNC expression in airway epithelia.
