Objective To compare plasma levels of ANP in experimental and control groups and continuously explore the value of ANP in diagnosis and treatment of acute PTE. Methods Thirty guinea pigs were randomized to PTE group(n = 15) and control( n = 15) group. The plasma level of ANP was examined by radioimmunoassay.Moreover, pulmonary embolism(PE) was explored at dissection and on microscopic examination after PTE. Results (1)The plasma levels of ANP in the early phase of PTE group were significantly higher than those in control group(P＜0.05). (2)The plasma levels of ANP after PTE were significantly higher than those before PTE( P＜0.05). (3)In the late phase of PTE, the plasma levels of ANP in PTE group declined to normal levels, compared with control group, and there was no significant difference( P＞0.05). Conclusion (1) ANP, as a vasodilatory factor,was involved in mechanism of PTE,especially in the early phase of acute PTE. (2)The levels of ANP in plasma played as a sensitive marker used to observe conditions and seriousness of PTE.

Objective: To study the affection of immobilization stress (IMS) on mice splenic lymphocytic function. Methods:The proliferation of lymphocytes was examined by MTT, and intracellular[Ca2+] was examined by fluorescence probe, Fura-2/AM, membrane of lymphocytes IL-2 receptor(mIL-2R) and cell cycle were examined by flow cytometry. Results;The end of IMS was found to be the lowest proliferation response after IMS, at the same time mIL-2R expression was impaired. Analysis of cell cycle showed the proliferation of splenocytes from IMS mice might be bloched in G2/M phases. Intracellular[Ca2+] was significant increased after IMS. Conclusion: IMS may induce the disfunction of lymphocytes and immunosuppression.

Objective To summarize the experience of microendoscopic discectomy (MED). Methods A retrospective analysis was made on causes and the management of complications following 115 cases of MED in this hospital from April 2001 to April 2003. Results A conversion to open surgery was required in 13 cases. There were 2 cases of endoscope displacement and 7 cases of dural abruption intraoperatively. Postoperative hematoma pressing on neighbouring nerves was seen in 2 cases but no nerve root injuries were found. All the patients were followed for 3～12 months (mean, 7 5 months). According to the Nakai scale, 70 cases were classified as “excellent”, 36 cases “good”, 7 cases “fair”, and 2 cases “poor”, the “good” or “excellent” rate being 92.2% ( 106/115 ). Conclusions Proper selection of patients, intraoperative localization by “C”-arm X-ray examination, removal of the ligamenta flava and the lamina, detachment of adhesions surrounding the nerve root to obtain a complete exposure, and thorough hemostasia are crucial to minimize the incidence of complications.

Glycoprotein N is encoded by glycoprotein N (gN) gene of herpesviruses. The amino acid composition and expression level of this protein vary among difference species of herpesviruses. According to present studies, gN protein is expressed in cytoplasm of host cells, mainly in endoplasmic reticulum. The gN forms a complex with glycoprotein M in host cells. The complex is involved in the processes of viral replication and inter-cellular infection. Moreover, this protein plays a role in immune evasion from host immune system. The study will provide a theoretical basis for further study of herpesvirus gN gene and its encoded protein.

Geographic distribution of Polyporus umbellatus was predicted by using distribution records. Based on 42 distribution records from 12 provinces and bioclimatic data (1950-2000), georaphic distribution of P. umbellatus was modeled using Maxent. The results showed thatthe Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) curve analysis method was used to assess the accuracy of MAXENT model and the area under ROC curve (AUC) value of MAXENT was 0. 960 which suggested that the result of assessment was dependable. The geographic distribution pattern of were divided into three distribution block based on distribution values of 0.5-0.8: small area of Heilongjiang, Jilin, Liaoning and Hebei province, the board area of Yunnan, Guizhou and Sichuan, the southeast area of Tibet and the most area of Shanxi and Shannxi, the southeast board area of Shannxi, Gansu and Ningxia. Jackknife Test showed that average precipitation in warm seasons had the greatest contribution to the distribution gain of P. umbellatus, followed by mean temperature of driest quarter and annual mean temperature. The object suggests the potential distribution areasof P. umbellatus which is useful for the habitat conservation and introduction of P. umbellatus.

Objective To determine the prediction and clinical characteristics of intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) treated Kawasaki disease (KD) failure in initial dose.Methods Retrospective analysis was performed with the clinical data of 1 11 children with KD.The paticnts were divided into sensitive group and unresponsive group according to initial effect of IVIG.The clinical manifestations,laboratory examination and radiological features of the children were compared.Logistic regression analysis was performed in significant different indicators to determine independent correlation factors.In order to seek the reference indexes which indicate unresponsive to IVIG,a receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was made,of which the diagnostic cut-off was nine independent correlation factors while grouping was made according to patients' different responses to IVIG.Results (1)There were 90 cases (81.1％)in effective group and 21 cases (18.9％) in unresponsive group.(2) Compared with the sensitive group,hyperpyrexia cases[66.7％ (14/ 21 cases) vs 34.4％ (31/90 cases),x2 =7.334,P =0.007] and the chances of coronary artery lesions [47.6％ (10/ 21 cases) vs 23.3％ (21/90 cases),x2 =4.989,P =0.026] were significantly higher in the unresponsive group.(3)Compared with the children administered twice with gamma globulin,the children of single-dose treatment significantly reduced the unresponsive probability [12.5 ％ (9/72 cases) vs 30.8 ％ (12/39 cases),x2 =5.504,P =0.019],and there was no difference in the chances of coronary artery lesions[23.6％ (17/72 cases) vs 30.8％ (12/39 cases),x2 =0.672,P =0.412].(4)Comparing the sensitive group and the unresponsive group,the percentage of neutrophils count [(0.72 ± 0.06) vs (0.76 ± 0.04),t =-2.84,P =0.005],platelet counts [(352.38 ± 42.18) × 109/L vs (373.14 ±36.93) × 109/L,t =-2.076,P =0.040] and C-reactive protein (CRP) [(74.38 ± 12.92) mg/L vs (92.05 ± 11.17) mg/L,t =-5.780,P =0.000] were significantly higher in the unresponsive group,but the level of serum albumin[(34.09 ±3.19) g/L vs (31.61 ±2.03) g/L,t =4.442,P =0.000] was lower.(5) Multivariate Logistic regression analysis indicated that the percentage increase of neutrophils count (P =0.018),CRP (P =0.000) increase and serum albumin(P =0.040) decrease were independent risk factors for unresponsive treatment with gamma globulin.(6)After the area under the ROC curve was calculated,the percentage of neutrophils count,CRP and serum albumin could be effective predictors to IVIG treatment failure in initial dose,and the critical values were 0.72,78.5 mg/L and 33.11 g/L,respectively.Conclusions Treatment with IVIG for the first time may be ineffective in some situations such as the percentage of neutrophils count ≥0.72,CRP ≥78.5 mg/L or serum albumin≤33.11 g/L.

Objective To explore whether there is a visual spatial attention span deficit in children with Chi-nese language learning disability and the characteristics of brain electrophysiological dynamic change. Methods Adop-ting event-related potentials ( ERP ) technology and levels of visual spatial attention span with fixed location cuing pa-radigm were used to explore the characteristics of brain electrophysiological dynamic change. Results Based on the behavioral data,the repeated findings of analysis of variance on reaction time showed that both the main effect of the type of subjects[F(1,35)=4. 34,P<0. 05,η2=0. 11],and the main effect of attention span[F(1,35)=138. 75,P<0. 001,η2=0. 79] had statistical significance. The repeated analysis of variance on accuracy showed that the main effect of subjects type[F(1,35)= 4. 99,P<0. 05,η2=0. 13],and the main effect of attention span[F(1,35)=101. 83,P<0. 01,η2=0. 74] were significantly different. Under large and small attention span conditions,the children with Chinese language learning disability showed a longer time of reaction and a lower accuracy rate than the children in the control group. With the electroencephalograph( EEG) data and under large and small attention span conditions,the Chinese learning disability children showed enhanced P1 amplitude and reduced N1 amplitude. Conclusions There is a visual spatial attention span deficit in children with Chinese learning disability which may be caused by a weak prima-ry sensory processing ability and divided attention deficit.
