4.Effect of GPS On Stimulating Murine Lymphocyte Proliferation
Chinese Journal of Immunology 1985;0(05):-
Glycyrrhiza uralensis Fish Polysacchoride(GPS)was observed to have mitogenic activity on murine spleen cell proliferation in vitro,The results showed that this mitogenic activity of GPS may be directed to B Iymphocytes,i.e.GPS is a new mitogen of murine B lymphocytes.Furthermore,it was found that B lymphocytes stimulated by GPS was M? depedent and T cell-indepedent.On the contrary, antibodies and IL-2 production was inhibited by GPS in vivo.

RNA methyltransferase is responsible for transferring methyl and resulting in methylation on the bases or ribose ring of RNA, which existed widely but mostly remains an open question. A recombinant protein PH1948 predicting RNA methyltransferase from Pyrococcus horikoshii OT3 has been crystallized. The crystals of selenomethionyl PH1948 belong to space group C2, with unit-cell parameters a=207.0 A, b=43.1 A, c=118.2 A, b=92.1 degrees , and diffract X-rays to 2.2 A resolution. The V(M) value was determined to be 2.8 A3/Da, indicating the presence of four protein molecules in the asymmetric unit.

Chinese Journal of Anesthesiology 1994;0(03):-
Objective To investigate the effects of propofol and ketamine on antigen-induced bronehoconstriction and microvascular leakage in rats. Methods Thirty SD rats of both sees weighing 150-200 g were sensitized with ovalbumin 1 mg, aluminium hydroxide 200 mg and devitalized Bordetella pertusis (6 ? 109 ) adminisered intraperitoneally 2 weeks before experiment. The animals were anesthetized with pentobarbital 30 mg ? kg-1 ip, tracheotomized and mechanically ventilated (VT = 10 ml? kg-1 , RR = 70 bpm) . The animals were randomly divided into 5 groups with 6 animals in each group: group I received normal saline iv group II propofol 50 mg?kg-1?h-1 iv group III propofol 100 mg?kg-1?h-1 iv group IV ketamine 50 mg?kg-1?h-1 iv; and group V ketamine 100 mg? kg-1? h-1 iv. Two minutes after propofol or ketamine administration Evan's blue 30 mg?kg-1 was given iv. Five minutes after dye injection ovalbumin 15 mg?kg-1 was injected iv to trigger asthmatic attack which was maintained for 30 min when airway pressure was measured. Then the animals were sacrificed by bleeding. Heart and lungs were removed for determination of lung coefficient( wet lung weight/body weight) , wet lung/dry lung ratio, lung extravascular water content [ (wet lung weight - dry lung weight/wet lung weight ? 100% ] and lung Evans blue content (formamide extraction method) . Results Propofol and ketamine significantly attenuated ovalbumin-induced bronchoconstiction( P

OBJECTIVETo observe the difference in the therapeutic effects on knee osteoarthritis (KOA) among auricular electroacupuncture therapy plus isolated moxibustion with Lingxian herbal paste (combined therapy), electroacupuncture (EA) and TDP irradiation.
METHODSEighty-nine cases were randomized into three groups. In the combined therapy group (30 cases), the auricular electroacupuncture therapy was adopted together with the isolated moxibustion with Lingxian herbal paste. The auricular points were xi (AH4), pizhixia (AT4), shenmen (TF4), etc. The Lingxian herbal paste was applied at Yanglingquan (GB 34), Dubi (ST 35), Zusanli (ST 36), Neixiyan (EX-LE 4), Heding (EX-LE 2) and Ashi points. In EA group (29 cases), EA was applied at the acupoints that were same as those in the isolated moxibustion with Lingxian herbal paste. In TDP group (30 cases), TDP irradiation was given at the affected knee. The treatment was given once every day, 10 treatments made one session and there was 1 week at the interval among sessions. Totally, 3 sessions of treatment were required. KOA clinical symptom and physical sign score and the single item pain symptom score of Lequesne index were observed before treatment and 1 week after treatment in the patients of each group separately. The efficacies were compared among the three groups.
RESULTSOne week after treatment, the total score of symptoms and physical signs of the patients in each group was reduced significantly as compared with that before treatment (all P < 0.05). The improvements in the symptoms and physical signs in the combined therapy group were better than those in the other two groups (1.50 +/- 1.57 vs 2.52 +/- 1.82, 2.63 +/- 1.97, both P < 0.05). The improvement in pain in the combined therapy group was also better than that in the other two groups (2.37 +/- 0.81 vs 2.83 +/- 0.92, P < 0.05; 2.37 +/- 0.81 vs 3.03 +/- 0.77, P < 0.01). The curative rate in the combined therapy group was 40.0% (12/30), which was higher than 17.2% (5/29) in EA group and 20.0% (6/30) in TDP group separately (both P < 0.01). The overall efficacy in the combined therapy group was superior to the other two groups (P < 0.05).
CONCLUSIONThe auricular electroacupuncture therapy plus isolated moxibustion with Lingxian herbal paste is advantageous at the total score of the symptoms and physical signs and the overall efficacy in the patients of KOA as compared with EA at the local acupoints and local TDP irradiation.
