Objective To build a digitized 3D model of the pulmonary venous system of Chinese people for the purpose of providing anatomic information of the pulmonary venous system for anatomic teaching, imaging diagnosis and surgical operation of pulmonary diseases. Methods The primal images from the first Chinese visible human data set of chest were converted into image sequence only cantaining the sections of pulmonary veins after manual registration and image segmentation. Then these images were imported into 3DMed software to build a 3D model of the pulmonary venous system through threshold registration algorithm. Results The three dimensional structures of the pulmonary venous system were reconstructed entirely. All reconstructed structures could be displayed individually or jointly, and could be rotated continuously on any plane. Conclusion The branches and the spacial characters of the pulmonary venous system can be clearly shown on the reconstructed 3D model. It will help anatomy teaching and provide morphological data for image diagnosis and lung operations.

Objective To understand the diagnostic values of procalcitonin (PCT),C-reactive protein (CRP),erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR),white blood cell (WBC) and neutmphilic granulocyte ratio (NE%) in distinguishing concurrent bacterial infection from idiopathic inflammatory myopathy (ⅡM).Methods Clinical data and laboratory examinations of 118 ⅡM patients were collected. The ⅡM patients were assigned to the bacterial infection group (n=66) or the non-infection group (n=52).The levels of PCT,CRP,ESR,WBC and NE% were compared by the Mann-Whitney U tests between the two groups and receiver operating characteristic curves were generated in order to evaluate the diagnostic value. Results The levels of PCT (0.06 ng/ml,0.03 ng/ml,U=2.637,P<0.01);CRP (15.80 mg/L,4.40 mg/L,U=5.944,P<0.01);ESR (43.50 mm/1 h,27.00 mm/1 h,U=2.266,P<0.05);WBC (9.85×109/L,7.70×109/L,U=2.675,P<0.01) and NE% (80.70%,75.75%,U=2.344,P<0.01) were significantly higher in the ⅡM patient group with concurrent infection than in the noninfection ⅡM patient group.CRP showed the highest diagnostic value with sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value and negative predictive value of 72.7%,82.7%,84.2% and 70.5%,respectively.Conclusion The inflammatory biomarkers PCT,CRP,ESR,WBC and NE% offer diagnostic accuracy in detecting bacterial infection in ⅡM patients.Particularly,CRP is the most sensitive and specific biomarker indetecting bacterial infection in ⅡM patients.

Objective To provide anatomical basis for elevating iliac tissue flap pedicled on the iliolumbar artery. Methods The course, number, outer diameter and distribution of iliolumbar artery were observed on 13 human cadavers. Results All the iliolumbar artery originated from the internal iliac artery. The iliolumbar artery gave off 2 branches (iliacus branch and lumbar branch) when passing between the obturator nerve and the lumbosacral trunk, posteriorly to the psoas major. The mean distance between origin of the iliolumbar artery and bifurcation point to iliacus and lumbar branches was 7.1 (7.1 ± 0.5) cm.The iliacus branch divided into two branches:one artery curved forward and anastomosed with the iliacus branch of deep circumflex iliac artery; the other artery supplied the tissue around the posterior superior iliac spine. The lumbar branch supplied the psoas major and the quadratus lumborum. Conclusion The iliolumbar artery and the iliacus branch is one of the most constant and reliable vessels supplying the iliac bone, and can be used as the pedicle of free or pedicled iliac tissue flaps.
