1.Discussion on humidifier and artificial nose
Chinese Medical Equipment Journal 2004;0(07):-
Many accessories to the ventilator such as the humidifier and the artificial nose are widely used and applied. In clinical medicine engineering, doctors and medical engineers have to be integrated to perform patient-centered care and to accomplish the functional structure based on the patient's essential physiological indexes. The scientific quality control has to be implemented during the operation, maintenance and sterilization of the equipment, thus iatrogenic infection can be avoided and medical diagnosis and treatment can be enhanced.

Objective To investigate the clinical value of multi-slice spiral CTA ( MSCTA ) and image-post processing techniques in diagnosis of acute aortic syndrome ( AAS) .Methods 71 patients with AAS were scanned by TOSHIBA Aquilion 64-slice spiral CT,the images on axial and 2D/3D were analyzed. Results 71 cases included 48 cases of aortic dissection ( AD) ,10 cases of intramural hematoma ( IMH) and 13 cases of penetrating atheroscle-rotic ulcer ( PAU) .MSCT depicted the imaging features of AAS:AD showed intimal flap and true and false lumens;IMH showed crescent or circular thickening of aortic wall .PAU showed a niche filling with contrast medium and pro-truding the aortic lumen ,where narrow neck signwas shown .The location ,radiological diagnosis and complications of AAS were observed in 71 patients.Intervention treatment or surgical treatment was conducted in 27 cases after defi-nite diagnosis .Conclusion MSCT is a fast and noninvasive examination technique , and it can provide important information for the diagnosis and treatment of AAS .

Objective To observe the effect of methylprednisolone (MP) pre-intervention on ex-pressions of heat shock protein 27 (HSP27) and tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α) in cells in rat spinal cord following ischemia-reperfusion injury. Methods One hundred and fifty male Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats were randomly divided into 3 equal groups: group A (control) in which the abdominal aorta was exposed without any treatment, group B in which the abdominal aorta was clipped for 30 minutes before reperfusion for 3 bours to establish a model of ischemia- reperfusion injury, and group C in which intravenous MP injection was conducted 30 minutes before the establishment of the ischemia-reperfusion injury model. Three hours later the spinal cords were harvested. Pathological changes of spinal cord cells were observed with HE staining and expressions of HSP27 and TNF-α in spinal cord cells were observed with immunohistochemical staining. The motor function of hind-limbs before was evaluated before sample harvest. The data were analyzed with SPSS software. Results There were significant differences between groups A and B in the expressions of TNF-α and HSP27. Compared with group B, the expression of TNF-α decreased and HSP27 increased in group C, with statistically significant differences between the 2 groups. The motor function score of hind-limbs decreased in group B but improved in group C. Conclusions Since MP can decrease the expression of TNF-α and up-regulate the expression of HSP27, it has a potency of neuro-protection. Spinal cord ischemia-reperfusion injury can be avoided or decreased after MP pre-intervention.

Gypsum Fibrosum is one of mineral medicines, which is widely used in clinics for a long time. It is mainly used for treating epidemic febrile diseases and excess-heat syndrome. The studies on the heat-clearing effects and mechanisms of Gypsum Fibro-sum in recent years were summarized in the paper, which can provide scientific reference for its further research, application and the heat-clearing mechanism exploration.

Objective:To establish the HPLC fingerprint detection method for gynecological lotion. Methods:Wondasil C18 (250 mm × 4. 6 mm,5 μm)was selected as the analytical column. The mobile phase was composed of acetonitrile-0. 3% phosphric acid and 0. 3% diethylamine solution with gradient elution at a flow rate of 1. 0 ml·min-1 . The detection wavelength was set at 284 nm and the column temperature was 30℃. Ten batches of gynecological lotion were detected by the HPLC fingerprint and evaluated by Chromato-graphic Fingerprint Evaluation System of Chinese Medicine (2004 edition). Results: The separated peaks were clear and 15 common peaks were identified in the fingerprint of 10 batches of gynecological lotion. Conclusion: The HPLC fingerprint is with good repeat-ability and stability, which can provide evidence for the quality control of gynecological lotion.

Objective To investigate the effects of electroacupuncture at Sanyinjiao (SP6) and Yinlingquan (SP9) on muscle repair in the gastrocnemius muscle damaged rats and its possible mechanism. Methods 30 male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into blank group (n=10), model group (n=10) and electroacupuncture group (n=10). The latter 2 groups were modeled with gastrocnemius muscle crush injury. The electroacupuncture group received electroacupuncture at Sanyinjiao and Yinlingquan for 14 days. Their gastrocnemius was observed with HE staining, and the expressions of basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) and insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) in gastroc-nemius tissues and the serum were determined with immunochemical assay and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Results Compared with the model group, there was less damage in the electroacupuncture group, with more expression of bFGF and IGF-1 in tis-sues (P<0.01) and serum (P<0.05). Conclusion Electroacupuncture can promote muscle repair after gastrocnemius muscle damage in rats, which may be related to the increase of the bFGF and IGF-1 expression in gastrocnemius tissue and serum.

Background:Fenretinide, which is capable of generating reactive oxygen species( ROS ),has emerged as a promising antineoplastic agent based on numerous in vitro and in vivo studies and clinical chemoprevention trials. Preliminary studies showed that fenretinide could induce apoptosis in human hepatocellular carcinoma( HCC)cells in vitro, however, the precise mechanism was not clarified. Aims:To elucidate the effect of ROS on apoptosis of human HCC cells induced by fenretinide and the underlying mechanism. Methods:Human HCC cell line Huh-7 was treated with antioxidant vitamin E,fenretinide or their combination, respectively. ROS in live cells was evaluated by confocal microscopy and flow cytometry;cell viability and apoptosis were assessed by CellTiter-Glo Luminescent Cell Viability Assay Kit and Caspase-Glo3/7 Assay Kit;expression and intracellular localization of nuclear receptor Nur77,as well as expression of stress-induced transcription factor GADD153 were measured by immunofluorescence staining and Western blotting, respectively. Results:Vitamin E pretreatment fully blocked the fenretinide-induced ROS production. In Huh-7 cells pretreated with vitamin E,cell apoptosis induced by fenretinide was significantly reduced(P<0. 05). Furthermore, effect of vitamin E pretreatment was noteworthy on reducing fenretinide-induced GADD153 expression, while no significant impact on fenretinide-induced Nur77 expression and translocation was observed. Conclusions:Elimination of ROS by vitamin E can abrogate the pro-apoptotic effect of fenretinide on Huh-7 cells, which indicates the participation of ROS in fenretinide-induced apoptosis of human HCC cells. Its mechanism might be associated with induction of GADD153 protein expression.
