Chinese Journal of Information on Traditional Chinese Medicine 2006;0(04):-
Objective To observe the changes of body fat content, bone mineral content and lean body weight before and after antiobesity acupuncture. Method Thirty seven cases of simple obese women were acupunctured by syndrome differentiation. Indicators related to obesity, body fat content, bone mineral content and lean body mass were measured and statistically analyzed before and after treatment. Results Acupuncture significantly improved objective indicators of obesity (BMI, waist, hip and arm circumference), reduced body fat content (whole body, upper limbs, torso), lowered lean body mass (body, upper and lower limbs), and had no effect on bone mineral content. Conclusion Acupuncture weight loss has no side effects of reducing bone mineral density, especially fits for patients with abdominal obesity (lipid-decrease and no lean-reduction on torso).

Objective:To investigate the effect of search for meaning on depression and the moderating role of perspective change in college students. Methods:The participants were 1 16 college students. The hypotheses were tested by analyzing data collected at 3 time points. Search for meaning and the presence of meaning in life were measured with the Meaning in Life Questionnaire, the dimension of perspective change in Meaning-Focused Coping Questionnaire was used to assess the ability to change perspective, and depression was assessed with the Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale (CES-D). Results:The scores of perspective change was positively corre-lated with scores of meaning in life (r=0. 29 ,P<0. 0 1 ),and negatively correlated with CES-D scores (r=-0. 34,P<0. 001). The scores of perspective change moderated the relationship between scores of search for mean-ing and scores of presence of meaning in life (β=0. 22,P<0. 01 ),and this interaction effected CES-D scores through the mediation of scores of presence of meaning in life. That is,for the individuals with lower perspectivechange score (blow one standard),the score of search for meaning was negatively associated with the presence of meaning in life, with in turn increased CES-D scores,95%CI:0. 07 -033;among the individuals with higher per-spective change scores (above one standard),there was no mediation effect. Conclusion:The results suggest that perspective change could moderate the relationship between search for meaning and meaning in life, which in turn buffers depression. The findings imply the potential positive role of perspective change in the process of searching for meaning in life among university students.

To advocate cadaver donation is to advocate the spirit of devotion and scientific research. It has been proved in the development of modern medicine that many problems of medical education and stubborn diseases were solved by necrospy. However, currently the cadavers donated cannot satisfy practical need, mainly because that few people would voluntarily register to donate their bodies, and those among the registered who actually donated are even fewer. This paper analyzes three factors that contribute to the bottleneck in the cadaver donation. And on the basis of present situation, countermeasures are presented to solve the problems.

Objective To observe whether electroacupuncture (EA) is protective to the blood-brain barrier (BBB) in rabbits with acute cerebral infarction and explore the underlying mechanisms. Methods Eighty rabbits were used in this study. After establishing the acute cerebral infarction rabbit model, all the animals were randomly allocated to a model group and an EA group. The acupoint "Bai Hui" and "Shui Gou" in Du meridian in the rabbits of the experimental group were stimulated by EA. The content of ANP,cAMP and cGMP was examined. Results Compared with the model group, the content of ANP in blood plasma and cAMP in brain tissue of the EA group significantly increased, while the content of cGMP decreased, the ratio cAMP/cGMP increased nearly to the normal level. Conclusion The EA exerted protective effect and promoted repair of BBB in rabbits with acute cerebral infarction, which might be modulated by the changes of the content of ANP in blood plasma and cAMP,cGMP in brain tissue.

Objective To identify clinicopathologic factors which predict survival following hepatectomy in HBV-related cirrhotic patients with early hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).Methods A database was used to identify patients with histologically confirmed early HCC (≤5 cm,no nodal involvement, metastases,or major vascular invasion) who underwent surgical resection (excluding ablation or transplantation).Among 20 700 patients with HCC who were diagnosed at the Eastern Hepatobiliary Surgery Hospital from April 2005 to November 2010,537 (2.6%) patients with early HCC were studied retrospectively.Prognostic factors were evaluated using the Kaplan-Meier curves,Cox proportional hazards models and the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves. Results The study included 537 patients. The median tumor size was 2.9 cm,and 33% of patients had tumors ≤2 cm.Most HCC lesions were solitary (63%) and had no evidence of vascular invasion (64%).Following surgery, the overall median and 5-year survival were 45 months and 33% respectively. After adjusting for demographic factors and histological grade, tumor size >2 cm (hazard ratio [HR]:1.56),multifocal tumors (HR:1.34),and vascular invasion (HR:2.03) remained independent predictors of poor survival (all P < 0.05).Based on these findings,a prognostic scoring system was developed that allotted 1 point each for these factors.Patients with early HCC could be stratified into 4 distinct prognostic groups (median and 5-year survival,respectively):0 points (97 months,96%),1 point (85 months,76%),2 points (76 months,54%),3 points (56 months,39%) (P <0.01).Conclusions The present study emphasized the importance of pathologic staging even in patients with small HCC.Anatomical resection of HCC should be the preferred surgical procedure in cirrhotic patients.
