Objective To assess the hearing, language and intelligence in prelingually deafened children with multichannel cochlear implant ,and to analysie the basic pattern of speech recognition and language development.Methods 42 prelingually deafened children with cochlear implant participated in this study. The “Evaluating method on hearing and language rehabilitation in deafened children” was used as test material.Results The average hearing of these deafened children with cochlear implant was 35 dB HL.The correct recognition rate and language ability were escalating with prolonging the implanted time. Subjects showing significant progress half year after operation indicated that the cochlear implant could promote prelingually deafened children to develop their hearing and language level.Conclusion With scientific and systemic rehabilitation training, prelingually deaf children, who have ordinary intelligence,will have significant progress half year after the operation.

OBJECTIVE: To study the curative effect of Sodium Ferulate( SF) on rheumatoid arthritis( RA) and its effects on the levels of serum vascular endothelial growth factor( VEGF) and tumor necrosis factor- ? ( TNF- ? ) . METHODS: A total of 43 patients with RA were randomly divided into trial group and the control group: conventional treatment was adopted in both groups, but the trial group was treated additionally with SF injection for 4 consecutive weeks. Serum levels of VEGF and TNF- ? before and after treatment were determined by the enzyme linked immunosorbent assay( ELISA) . The study is designed to investigate the progress in cardiac auscultation proficiency of residents after training program.Thirty eight residents were selected to test their ability of cardiac auscultation.There were 13 cardiac events(or murmurs)in 15 patients,and the auscultation proficiency was expressed as the percentage of recognizing cardiac events accurately.The results showed that the highest auscultation proficiency was whole systolic and diastolic murmurs(up to 79 percent and 61 percent respectively)before training.The percentage of recognizing continuous murmurs,click,mitral stenosis and regurgitation,aortic stenosis increased significantly after training program(P＜0.05).

OBJECTIVE To investigate the incidence rate of nasal septum fracture and it's influence on the effect of nasal bone reduction. METHODS Retrospective analysis of 212 cases of nasal fracture compared with nasal septum deviation were carried out. Among these cases 112 treated with nasal bone reduction only was called group A; the other cases were treated with nasal reduction concomitantly with septoplasty. Among them 58 cases were diagnosed with nasal septum fracture, it was called group B; 42 cases were diagnosed with nasal septum deviation, it was called group C. The postoperative nasal deformity rate was assessed, and the intraoperative findings of nasal septum contrast with preoperative CT diagnosis was analysed. RESULTS Three months after the operation, 27 cases (24.1%) of nasal deformity were found in group A; 9(9.0%) cases of nasal deformity were found in group B+C; septum fracture was found in 58 cases (100%) in group B and 30(71.8%) cases in group C introperatively. The diagnosis rate of nasal septum fracture by CT was 58.0%, while it's incidence rate was 88.0%. CONCLUSION More nasal septum fractures were observed introperatively than CT findings, and septoplasty concomitantly with nasal bone reduction can obviously reduce the rate of nasal deformity.

Objective To investigate the incidence of middle ear barotrauma due to hybaric oxygen therapy by using Health Education Atlas.Methods 100 patients were divided into two groups by random number table. The research group(49 patients)was educated by Health Education Atlas.The control group(51 patients)was educated by traditional education approach.During the first three days,we observed and recorded the eardrum injury and asked patients ear discomfort everyday.Results The incidence rate of middle ear barotrauma of the research group was 6.1%,which of the control group was 19.6%.The eardrum injury of the research group was milder than the control group(χ2 =4.02,P <0.05).Conclusion Education using Health Education Atlascan reduce the incidence of middle ear barotrauma due to hybaric oxygen therapy.

OBJECTIVE: To assess the treatment outcome after endoscopic sinus surgery (ESS) in patients with recurrent sinusitis and to research which factors could influence the clinical outcome. METHOD: Endoscopic sinus surgery was performed in 55 patients. The clinical outcome and epithelization of mucosa after ESS were evaluated by Chinese ENT Association criteria. RESULT: The total cure rate was 81.82%, effective rate was 92.73%. The mean period of epithelization after operation was 13.2 weeks. No serious complication occurred. CONCLUTION The treatment efficacy can be greatly improved by the normative combined therapy which include the standard and orderly perioperative treatment ,the overall shape and nasalization of nasal cavity, postoperative follow-up and clearing cav ity after ESS.

ObjectiveTo investigate the relation of learning and memory with the expression of postsynaptic density 95 (PSD-95) in traumatic brain injury (TBI) rats in Morris water maze.Methods Forty adult male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly assigned to the TBI group and control group.The TBI group was produced using the impact acceleration injury model.Morris water maze memory paradigm was used to assess the learning and memory function in both groups one week after injury.Protein electro-phoresis was used to observe the expression of PSD-95 1,3,7 d after TBI.ResultsCompared with the control group,the TBI group showed a longer latency in the Morris water maze after one week,significantly longer than the latency in the first three days after TBI.The quantification of PSD-95 in the hippocampus was gradually reduced at one week after TBI ( P ＜ 0.01 ).ConclusionTBI may decrease expression of PSD-95 in the hippocampus of the rats,as may be one of the mechanisms for impairments of learning and memory of rats.

Objective To investigate the relationship between various clinicopatholngic factors and prognosis of early gastric cancer. Methods The clinical data of 459 patients with early gastric cancer who had undergone gastrectomy combined with extended (D2) lymphadenectomy at Zhongshan Hospital from January 2002 to October 2007 were retrospectively analyzed. Survival was calculated using the Kaplan-Meier method, and clinicopathologic factors such as age, sex, tumor size, gross morphology, tumor differentiation, depth of invasion, lymphatic vessels involvement and lymph node metastasis were analyzed using the Cox regression model. Univariate analysis was done by Log-rank test. Results Univariate analysis demonstrated that tumor size and differentiation, depth of invasion, lymphatic vessels involvement and lymph node metastasis significantly affected survival in patients with early gastric cancer (χ~2 = 8.476, 6.210, 4.014, 14. 197, 55.027, P < 0.05). The status of lymph node metastasis was an independent predictor of survival in patients with early gastric cancer, and the more metastatic lymph nodes detected, the greater the influence on the prognosis. Conclusions Lymph node metastasis is the most important factor influencing the prognosis of early gastric cancer. Appropriate lymph node dissection is necessary, especially for patients with risk factors associated with lymph node metastasis.

Objective To develop the Quality of Life Questionnaire with traditional Chinese medicine characteristics for patients with ulcerative colitis.Methods The pool of entries were initially formed by using literature review,theoretical analysis and interviews.Delphi technique was used to formulate.quality of life questionnaire for patients with ulcerative colitis through a two-round expert consultation among 22 experts in 9 provinces.Results In two-round surveys,the rates of questionnaire retrieve were 95.7％ and 100.0％,respectively.The authoritative coefficients was 0.85,the coordination coefficients were 0.288 and 0.290,respectively,P＜ 0.01.The preparation of the primary scale consisted of physical,psychological,independence and social function of 4 dimensions and 48 items.Conclusions A reliable and valid questionnaire with traditional Chinese medicine characteristics for evaluation of quality of life for patients with ulcerative colitis was developed.It can be used to provide reference for the evaluation of the quality of life for patients with ulcerative colitis in China.

Objective To measure the placing position error of different body position by analog positioning machine in patients with different body mass index (BMI) during radiotherapy for rectal cancer, then calculate the clinical target volume (CTV) to plan target volume (PTV) margins (Mptv). Methods Thirty-six patients with rectal cancer were selected, and the patients were divided into vacuum bag group (18 cases) and routine belly board group (18 cases) according to method of placing position. The BMI was calculated. Each patient was treated with positive and lateral position X-ray film before treatment and once a week during the radiotherapy. The data were contrasted with digitally rendered radiographs (DRR) of three-dimensional conformal radiotherapy plan system, then the placing position error on X, Y and Z axis was calculated, and the Mptv on X, Y and Z axis of patients with different BMI was calculated. Results The placing position error on X, Y and Z axis gradually increased with the increase of BMI in vacuum bag group and routine belly board group, and there were statistical differences (P<0.01 or <0.05). The Mptv on X, Y and Z axis in patients with normal BMI were 4.60, 5.51 and 5.29 mm respectively. The Mptv on X, Y and Z axis in patients with overweight were 5.48, 6.81 and 6.16 mm respectively. The Mptv on X, Y and Z axis in patients with obesity were 8.92, 8.59 and 7.02 mm respectively. Conclusions The rectal cancer patients with overweight and obesity have more placing position error. The influence of BMI should be considered when the patient's Mptv is determined.
