OBJECTIVE To analyze the characters of hospital infection among deceased inpatients.METHODS The inpatients who died in hospital from Jan 2004 to Dec 2005 were analyzed retrospectively.RESULTS The infection rate of deceased inpatients was 40.11%,and the location majored in respiratory tract, urinary system and digestive tract. The infection rate was apparently higher among the cases more than 60 years old,and those with hematological disease, circulatory disease and nervous system disease. The hospital infection rate was related with long hospitalization and had seasonal fluctuation.CONCLUSIONS The high hospital infection rate among deceased pabients may be related with the seriously underlying diseases, aging, drug abuse and invasive therapy.

Objective To investigate the value of multi-slice spiral CT (MSCT) in diagnosis of colorectal carcinoma. Methods MSCT images of 42 cases of colorectal carcinoma proved by surgery and pathology were retrospectively analyzed. Multiplanar reconstruction (MPR) in all cases, and curved planar reconstruction (CPR), shaded surface display (SSD), CT virtual colonoscopy (CTVC) and Raysum were performed in some of the cases. MSCT findings were analyzed in comparison with operative and pathologic features. Results The detecting rate and quatitative rate of colorectal carcinomas with MSCT were 100%,respectively.The accurate rates were 82.9%(29/35) and 100%(7/7) in detection of invasion of surrounding structures and metastasis in abdominal organs respectively, the sensitivity and specificity for detetion of lymph node metastasis were 71%(22/31) and 100% with MSCT imaging. Conclusion MSCT scan with multiform reconstruction techniques can make definite diagnosis of colorectal carcinoma, which is helpful for treatment plan.

Objective To investigate the effect of ulinastatin (UTI) on the expression of brainderived neurotrophic factor ( BDNF ) and remyelination in mice with experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis ( EAE).Methods Twenty-four C57BL/6 mice were randomly divided into UTI group (U),normal saline treated group (S) and normal control group (N,n = 8,respectively).Demyelinations in the spinal cord were observed by solochrome cyanin staining. The expression of BDNF,myelin basic protein (MBP),and 2',3 '-cyclic nucleotide 3'-phosphodiesterase (CNP) in brain tissue of each group were evaluated by Western blot. Results Average clinical scores in group U at the 12,13,14,22,23,31,33,34 and 35 days were 0,0.25,0.38,0.63,0.63,0.40,0.40,0.40 and 0.40 respectively. They were significantly lower than group S at the same time ( U= 16.00,15.00,14.50,7.50,0.00,14.50,14.50,12.00 and 14.50,all P <0.05).Solochrome cyanin staining showed that demyelination of spinal cord in group U was also significantly improved than group S.Expressions of BDNF ( 1.96 ± 0.29),MBP (2.67 ± 0.48 ) and CNP ( 1.75 ± 0.20) in group U were all significantly higher than group S ( There were 0.80 ± 0.15,1.36 ± 0.38 and 1.06 ± 0.18 respectively, all P < 0.05).Conclusions UTI has protective effect on EAE.The possible mechanism is that it could promote remyelination, and protect oligodendrocytes and neurons in EAE model by increasing BDNF expression in brain.

The authors tried to combine the theoretical learning with experimental and clinical teaching by adding teaching materials of public opinion,head-simulator,typical cases, clinical practice, examination of clinical operation skill, and make up with deficiency to some extend in current pattern of stomatology teaching. The results have showed that the pattern of experimental teaching not only raises the students'activity, consolidates their basic knowledge, develops their clinical thinking ability, but also increases their ability of clinical operational skill before clinical training.

Purpose To explore the effect of ultrasonic section, patient position and other factors on Young's modulus and shear wave velocity measurement of the muscle, and to study the consistency between Young's modulus and shear wave velocity on reflection of muscle hardness.Materials and Methods Shear wave elastography was used to detect 10 healthy young men and 10 women.Longitudinal and transverse detection of the Young's modulus and shear wave velocity of gastrocnemius and soleus were performed in natural ankle joint position, maximum plantar flexion and maximum dorsiflexion position. Results ① Comparison of the elasticity measurement between gastrocnemius and soleus. There were significant differences in the Young's modulus in the maximum plantar flexion and Young's modulus and shear wave velocity in maximum dorsiflexion position in longitudinal detection (P<0.05) that gastrocnemius measurements were higher than soleus measurements. There were significant differences in Young's modulus and the shear wave velocity (P<0.05) in natural position and maximum dorsiflexion position that soleus measurements were higher than gastrocnemius measurements.② In the positions of the ankle joints, the differences between longitudinal detection values and transverse detection values of gastrocnemius or soleus were statistically significant (P<0.01) and longitudinal detection values were higher than transverse detection values.③ Comparison of the elasticity measurement of gastrocnemius and soleus muscle among different positions of the ankle joints. The measurement in natural position and in the maximum plantar flexion were evidently higher than that in the maximum dorsiflexion position (P<0.01) in longitudinal detection. The maximum dorsiflexion position showed higher elasticity measurement.Only elasticity measurement in natural position and the maximum plantar flexion of the soleus was statistically different from that in the maximum dorsiflexion position (P<0.01) that it was higher in the maximum dorsiflexion position. Conclusion The ultrasound elasticity measurements of gastrocnemius and soleus are related with the ultrasonic longitudinal or transverse section and the relative ankle positions. Moreover, there are some differences in elasticity measurements between these two muscles.should be given to all of these in quantitative evaluation of muscle hardness using shear wave ultrasound elastography.
