5.The current status and future in limbal stem cells research

The discovery of limbal stem cells is the key advancement in ophthalmology in the 20th century.Many clinical researches have proved that limbal stem cells transplantation is an effective method to treat severe ocular surface diseases.However, some important issues associated with the identification,isolation,standardized culture in vitro and differentiation after transplantation are still not clear and need to be paid more attention.Strengthening the underlaying research in this field will play important role in treating corneal blindness.
6.Isolation and Screening for Anti-microbial Bacteria from Sponge Dysidea avara

Sponge Dysidea avara-associated bacteria were isolated by dilution-plate method and the bacterial anti-microbial activities were screened for Escherichia coli,Staphylococcus aureu, Pseudomonas fluorescens, Bacillus subtilis,Aspergillus niger, Candida albicans,Pacecilomyces variotii by agar diffusion method.At the same time, morphology observations, biochemical and physiological identification of active strains were made. In this paper, 149 strains were isolated from sponge Dysidea avara.20 strains, which amount to 13.4% of the total isolated strains, were found to have anti-microbial activity against fungi and gram-positive bacteria and were identified to be the genus Bacillus sp.
7.Wilson’s disease in Asia

Wilson’s disease is an autosomal recessive disorder of copper metabolism. The resultant accumulation
of copper primarily damages the liver and brain, resulting in hepatic, neurological and psychiatric
symptoms. There have been many recent studies advancing the understanding of Wilson’s disease in
Asia. There are indications that the incidence of Wilson’s disease in parts of Asia may be relatively
high. Many genetic studies have identifi ed various hot spots in theATP7B gene in a variety of the Asian
populations. Screening of these hotspot mutations may thus be useful in confi rming the diagnosis.
Despite the advances in treatment, lack of familiarity by the health care profession resulting in late
diagnosis, and poor access to treatment particularly among those from the developing economies
remain areas of major concern.
8. In vitro stability of Shuxuening with representative infusion solutions

OBJECTIVE: Compatible stability of Shuxuening injection with 5 different infusions and glucose injection with insulin. METHODS: Taking Shuxuening injection with 5 different injections and glucose injection with insulin at room temperature, according to the clinical application of dose, study the compatible stability of solution with color, pH, particulates, contents of flavonoid compounds, total lactones, ginkgolides A, B and C. RESULTS: Compatibility of the solution within 12 h, the solution pH and color, compared with begin, showed no change; number of insoluble particles, ≥ 10 and 25 μm size were acceptable; flavonoid fingerprint did not change significantly; ginkgolide A, B, C and total lactone content did not change. CONCLUSION: Shuxuening injection was stable for up to 12 h in vitro in 5 different solutions and glucose injection with insulin at room temperature. Therefore, Shuxuening injection can be constituted, mixed with experiment infusion fluids. Copyright 2012 by the Chinese Pharmaceutical Association.
9.Study on Computed Tomographic Brain Scan Quantitative Evaluation on Newborn of Abnormal Prognosis with Perinatal Hypoxic Brain Damage

Objective To analyze the relation between the CT changes of ventricular volume and prognosis in newborn of perinatal hypoxic-ischemic brain damage.Methods From Jan. 2002 to Dec. 2006, 105 newborns with perinatal hypoxic-ischemic brain damage (moderate to severe) were divided into 2 groups (group A with nervous system sequel and group B without nervous system sequal). Brain CT was performed in 24 hours after admission in all cases and at 1 and 3-month time point in some cases according to their convalescence condition. CXCR7 is a new receptor of chemokine CXCL12 after CXCR4.The present study shows that CXCL12/CXCR7 biological axis has important influence to the development of a variety of tumors,similar to CXCL12/CXCR4 biological axis.CXCR7 is present in many kinds of tumor tissues and tumor cells widely,and plays an important role in tumor cells growth,proliferation,adhesion and migration.Restraining CXCR7 expression or blocking the CXCR7 signaling pathways may offer new strategies for the treatment of tumors.
