2.RESEARCH INTO THE ACTION AND MECHANISM OF LARGE DOSE OF ViT.C ON COLD TOLERANCE AND ADAPTATION IN GUINEA PIGS
Acta Nutrimenta Sinica 1956;0(04):-
117 guinea pigs were divided into groups, receiving 1mg, 5mg, 50mg and 100mg Vit C per os daily respectively in 2-4 weeks. There were conducted four experiments: (1) the effect of different vitamin C levels on the cold tolerance and adaptation in guinea pigs; (2) effect of large dose of vitemin C on sudden and long time exposure to cold: (3) the action of vitamin C, in large dose and short time in combination with hormones, on cold tolerance of guinea pigs; (4) effect of large dose of vitamin C on the myocardial enzyme activity, during the process of cold adaptation. Rectal temperature, body weight, weight and vitamin C contents of adrenal glands, the excretion of urinary 17-Ketostero'ids, activity of myocardial succinic dehydrogenase and cytochrom C oxidase were observed. The results revealed that large dose of Vitamin C per os might lessen the lowering of rectal temperature and body weight after exposure to cold; promote the activities of myocardial enzymes. Better results were obtained with combination of vitamin C with cortisones. It was noted that large dose of vitamin C apparently increased and accelerated the tolerance and adaptation of organisms to cold.
3.AN INVESTIGATION INTO THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN WATER SOIL-DIETARY CONDITIONS AND THE PATHOGENESIS OF KESHAN DISEASE(Research into the pathogenesis of Keshan diseasepart 1)
Acta Nutrimenta Sinica 1956;0(03):-
The dietary composition of inhabitants of the endemic and nonendemic areas, the epidemics of Keshan disease, and its clinical examinations from 14 counties in Heilongjiang, Hebei, Shanxi, Shantong, Shanxi, Sichuan, Yunnan and Xizhang provinces were investigated. The results revealed: (1) There were differences of the dietary sources between endemic and non-endemic inhabitants (difference of water-soil conditions); (2) The composition of diet between inhabitants of endemic and non-endemic areas were different; (3) There were differences of dietary composition of the inhabitants between peak year of incidence and ordinary year in endemic districts. The less the variety of diet the higher the incidence of the disease; the greater the variety of diet, the lower its incidence. The decrease of the incidence was closely related to the improvement of dietary conditions in endemic area.
4.Content Determination of Total Flavones in Runchang Ningshen Extract
Journal of Guangzhou University of Traditional Chinese Medicine 2001;0(03):-
To establish a method for the determination of the content of total flavones and the quality control of Runchang Ningshen Extract. [Methods & Results]With rutin as control, the optimal concentration of Runchang Ningshen Extract was obtained by refluxing for three times with 70% ethanol.Ultraviolet spectrophotometry was used. The regression equation was induced at detecting wavelength being 511nm and with sodium nitrite and aluminium nitrate as color developing agent. There was a good linearity (r=0 9999)in the range of 8 ?g.The average recovery of total flavones was 94 63%(RSD=2 58%,n=5).[Conclusion]This method is simple and reproducible and can serve as the standard for controlling the quality of Runchang Ningshen Extract.
5.Role of basic fibroblast growth factor in promoting fracture healing and the related mechanism
Academic Journal of Second Military Medical University 1981;0(03):-
Basic fibroblast growth factor(bFGF) is one of the most important factors for wounds healing.BFGF promotes healing of bone fracture by regulating cell proliferation and differentiation of bone tissues, increasing local bone density, and accelerating local angiogenesis. With the progression of bFGF research, more and more attention will be paid to bone repair function of bFGF in bone tissue engineering.

Journal of Integrative Medicine 2007;5(5):494-6
Lithospermum has been widely used in clinic for a long time. It can lower the levels of follicle stimulating hormone and luteinizing hormone in blood serum and inhibit ovulation, thus causing infertility. Due to its effect of lowering chorionic gonadotropin, restraining the development of corpus luteum graviditatis and interfering the growth of uterus and the supply of embryotrophy, Lithospermum has been confirmed to be effective in termination of pregnancy and herb abortion. Therefore Lithospermum can not be used in those who intend to conceive or do not need to terminate pregnancy. The authors suggest that the influence of Lithospermum on pregnancy should be studied objectively and should be emphasized in clinical teaching of traditional Chinese medicine to ensure the correct and reasonable application of Lithospermum.

Acta Nutrimenta Sinica 1956;0(04):-
Albino rats fed on crops from endemic and non-endemic districts of Ke-shan desease, were used in this experiment, which was studied by 85Zn tracer metabolic method after 8 weeks feeding. Uptake of 85Zn (ZnCl2) by blood, heart, liver, kidneys and brown adipose tissue were determined at 24 and 72 hours after injection of this tracer respectively, and its distribution was thoroughly examined. The results revealed that the uptake of 8aZn was higher in the groups fed on crops from endemic districts, particularly significant in liver, kidneys and brown adipose tissue. This may reflect the lacking or deficiency of zinc in the bodies. The regular differences of 85Zn between two groups were certainly related to the crops produced from endemic or aon-endemic districts. In other words, there should be some differences between crops from endemic and non-endemic areas. Thus more attention should be paid to the factors in endemic crops, which induced lacking or deficiency of zinc in the experimental animal and to its relationship with etiology of Keshan disease.

Statins not only can help lower cholesterol, but also has certain effect for the treatment of malignant tumor. Its possible antitumor mechanisms include inducing apoptosis and differentiation, inhibiting tumor cell proliferation, reducing the invasion and metastasis of tumor cells, combined sensitization and chemical prevention effect.

Chinese Journal of Urology 2001;0(04):-
ObjectiveTo study the diagnosis and therapy of circumcaval ureter.MethodsFifteen cases of circumcaval ureter were studied retrospectively. The cardinal symptoms include discomfort over the back and loins, nephrocolic and bloody urine. The diagnosis mainly depends on IVU and retrograde urography.12 patients underwent ureteroureterostomy,2 ureteropyeloneostomy and 1 nephrectomy.ResultsAll the patients have been follewed up from 1 to 15 years by IVU and ultrasonography, and no nephrohydrosis or stenosis of the anastomosis site has been noted. All the patients have been free from any complaints.ConclusionsIVU and retrograde urography are the cardinal means for the diagnosis of circumcaval ureter, and operation is indicated in order to improve the renal function. It is important to choose a proper time and an adequate surgical technique.

Chinese Journal of Practical Internal Medicine 2001;0(07):-
Objective To investigate the prevalence of anemia in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and the relationship between anemia and disease activity of RA. Methods Retrospectively analyze the data of 239 RA patients. Results (1)Estimates of the prevalence of the anemia was 51.4% ;the level of anemia was mild and moderate, and none was severe. (2)There were statistic differences between the patients with anemia and without anemia in disease duration, morning stiff ness,ESR,CRP and degree of X-ray change. (3)There were statistic differences between the patients with anemia and without anemia in leukocyte counts and platelet counts. (4)The level of hemoglobin (Hb) was significantly increased after anti-rheumatoid treatment. Conclusion (1)Anemia is a common sign in individuals with rheumatoid arthritis. The level of anemia is mild and moderate. (2)There are important associations between anemia and disease activity of RA. (3)The level of hemoglobin is increased after anti-rheumatoid treatment.
