Objective:To evaluate the effects of surface modified nano titanium-oxide on the mechanical properties of A-2186 silicone elastomers. Methods:Added surface modified nano titanium-oxide into A-2186 silicone elastomers with 0.0%, 0.5%, 1.0%, 1.5%, 2.0%, 2.5% and 3.0% additions according to the ASTM standard. The mechanical properties of A-2186 silicone elastomer including the tensile strength, the broken elongation, the tear strength and the Shore-A hardness were tested separately. The section of samples were investigated by scanning electron microscope and energy spectrum analysis. Used statistics method to analyse the results. The results were analysed with software EPSS 13.0. Results:With the addition of nano titanium-oxide increasing, the tensile strength, the broken elongation and the tear strength of A-2186 silicone elastomers increased firstly, and then decreased. While the Shore-A hardness of A-2186 silicone elastomers increased gradually. When the addition of surface modified nano titanium-oxide reached to 2.0%, the nano titanium-oxide dispersed well in the base without agglomeration. Under such condition, the A-2186 silicone elastomer showed the best general mechanical properties:the tensile strength was (6.54?0.55) MPa, the broken elongation was 618.00?7.58(%), the tear strength was (16.64?0.52) kN/m and the Shore-A hardness was (31.00?0.79) U. Conclusion:The mechanical properties of A-2186 silicone elastomers are improved most greatly with 2.0% addition of surface modified nano titanium-oxide to the base of A-2186 silicone elastomers.

BACKGROUND: Plasminogen activator inhibitor 1 is the main regulator of the fibrinolytic system in vivo. The increase of plasminogen activator inhibitor 1 is closely related to thrombotic disease and it is also an independent risk factor for development of thrombotic disease.OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effect of huangqi(Astragalus), danggui (Angelica) and ligustrazine as medicines activating blood and eliminating stasis on the expression of plasminogen activator inhibitor 1 in HepG2 hepatocarcinoma cell strain.DESIGN: A randomized controlled study.SETTING: First Cadre Department of General Hospital of Chinese People' s Armed Police Force.MATERIALS: The experiment was completed in Academy of Military Medical Sciences of PLA from August to December 2004. HepG2 hepatocarcinoma cell strain was cultured. According to different drugs in culture medium, they were divided into six groups: control group, huangqi group, danggui group, huangqi + danggui group, compound danshen group and ligustrazine group.METHODS: Huangqi, danggui, huangqi + danggui, compound danshen and ligustrazine were added in HepG2 culture medium respectively. MTS assay was used to detect the effect of medicines activating blood and eliminating stasis on proliferation of HepG2 cells, plasminogen activator inhibitor 1 was assayed by specific enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays(ELISA),plasminogen activator inhibitor 1 activity was measured by amidolytical assay. 0.5 μg/mL of transforming growth factor β1 cells was added in HepG2 culture medium to stimulated production of plasminogen activator inhibitor 1. Control group was treated under the same conditions but without Chinese herbs.RESULTS: The inhibitory rates of cellular proliferation in huangqi and danggui groups werc(6.51 ±2. 66)% and (4.42 ±2. 19)%, but those in huangqi + danggui, compound danshen and ligustrazine groups were (12. 06 ±4. 98)%, (16. 38 ±4.06)% and(32. 83 ±9.8)% respectively,t = 2. 447 - 3. 707, P < 0.05. Compared with the control group, huangqi, danggui, compound danshen and ligustrazine significantly inhibited plasminogen activator inhibitor 1 expression(22.68 ± 2.20, 11.11 ± 1.23,19.66±1.53, 15.45±1.27, 16.90±0.33, 14.01±0.74, t=2.447-3.707, P < 0.05) and activity(2.16±0.014, 2.01 ±0.006, 1.95±0.014, 1.79±0. 104, 1.53±0.045, 1.48±0.012, t =2.447-3. 707,P < 0.05) in HepG2 cells. The evident inhibitory effects were observed in the group of huangqi + danggui, especially in compound danshen and ligustrazine.CONCLUSION: The plasminogen activator inhibitor 1 expression and activity were inhibited effectively by huangqi, danggui, compound danshen and ligustrazine.

A multi-channel central monitoring system based on B/S mode is designed. It is consistent of the central monitoring server software, the Internet Explorer in the client PC, and a physiological signal collector. The server software can accept two client's request of data transfer, and real-time monitor several patients through Internet. The client uses the B/S mode, and just need to install an ActiveX control. The only thing users should to do is opening the Intemet Explorer, from which the waveform and signals are shown and transferred. The system extends the central monitoring service from hospital to the community, and is benefit for patient's long-term observation and cutting fees. Additionally, it can be a new solution of network based health care devices.

Objective To retrospectively analyze the therapeutic results of patients with initially di-agnosed metastatic nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). Methods From January 1995 to December 1998, 46 NPC patients with distant metastases were treated in Fujian provincial cancer hospital. Among these pa-tients, 43 were single site metastasis and 3 were multiple sites metastases; The site of metastasis were 19 pa-tients in the liver, 11 in the bone, 7 in the lung, 1 in the brain, 6 in mediastinal nodes and 6 in axillary lymph nodes. All patients received standard radiotherapy to the primary site and cervical node region with a median dose of 72 Gy. Forty-one patients (89%) received 1-5 cycles chemotherapy (cisplatin and 5-flu-orouracil), and 23 (50%) received palliative irradiation to the metastatic site. Results The median surviv-al time was 20 months. The 1-, 2-, 3-year and 5-year overall survival rates were 66%, 47%, 30% and 19%, respectively. Irradiation to the metastatic sites and KPS were the significant prognostic factors. Pa-tients with palliative irradiation to the metastatic site had longer survival than those without (39 months vs. 13 months, X2=8.63, P=0.012). Patients with good performance status (KPS≥80) had better outcomes thanthose with poor performance status (26 months vs. 12 months, X2= 3.95, P=0.035) . Conclusions Active therapy may prolong the survival of patients with initially diagnosed metastatic NPC, especially for those who have good performance status. Under systematic chemotherapy, radiotherapy to the primary site and supportive care, the palliative irradiation to the metastatic site may also yield a good result.
