Objective To investigate the influence of brain natrluretic peptide(BNP) in the prognosis of cardiac surgery. Methods Selected 115 cases of pafients with the first cardiac surgery.Their BNP concentration was measured before operation. Observed the relationship between BNP and postoperative atrial fibrillation, mechanical ventilation time, hospital stay, and the mortality of 30 d.Results Whether the patients had hypertension, diabetes, myocardial infarction history, left main stem disease and hemoglobin level or not, showed no definite relationship with BNP (P>0.05).Preoperative lower left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF)(P=0.002) and European system for cardiac operation risk evaluation [(5±3)scores](P=0.003) were associated with higher BNP level.Postoperative mechanical ventilation time was(15.0±5.4)h,hospital stay was (32±11) d,showed a clear relationship with BNP(P= 0.035,0.001),but postoperative mediastinal infection, atrial fibrillation and mortality of 30 d had no definite relationship with BNP(P>0.05).Conclusion BNP can be used to predict the risk after cardiac surgery.

AIM: To apply molecular systematic techniques to revealing the genetic diversity of medicinal plant of Dendrobium candidum and its related species in Dendrobium.METHODS: The internal transcribed spacer(ITS) as well as 5.8S rDNA sequences of 40 samples of 25 species of Dendrobium were carried out on 25 dendrobi-um samples and amplified using PCR method and sequenced.Mega 3.1 was used to analyze the genetic diversity within the genus.Phylogenetic relationships among species in Dendrobium were estimated by maximum parsimony and neighbor-joining methods to construct similar ITS trees.RESULTS: The phylogenetic analysis indicated that Dendrobium candidum had a markedly difference in the interspecies and possessed the characteristic sequence site.CONCLUSION: ITS sequences as a good molecular marker for authentication between Dendrobium and outgroup is feasibility.

Objective To find out the health status and community health care requirement of the elderly in urban Fuzhou and to provide suggestions on how to develop and consummate the community health care for elderly. Methods With the method of stratified random sampling, 3285 elderly people aged 60 years and over were surveyed by a questionnaire. Results The average quality of life of elderly people in urban Fuzhou was above the moderate level. But education level of the elderly was low. And the prevalence rate of chronic diseases was high. There were 2134 elderly people (65.0%) who had more than one chronic disease. The older the people, the higher proportion the coincidence of multiple diseases (P<0.01). The first five chronic diseases in the elderly were hypertension, diabetes, coronary heart disease, arthropathy and stroke. The incidence rate of depression was high up to 60%. The requirement rate of community health care was 75.2%, and the older the people, the more items they needed(P<0.05). The requirement of community health care at the first 5 rank position were regular physical examination, health education, regular home visiting, health direction and diet direction. Conclusions Elderly people have many health problems and requirements of community health care.We should provide more and more community health care, in order to improve the quality of life of elderly people.

Objective To reveal the protective effects of atorvastatin against atherosclerosis independent of cholesterol-lowering effect, we investigated the effects of atorvastation on the expression of protein kinase C (PKC) and C-reactive protein in experimental atherosclerosis of rats.Method Fifty female Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into normal diet group (n = 10, control group), vitamin D3 injection and high cholesterol diet group (n = 40). After 8 weeks, vitamin D3 injection and high cholesterol diet rats were randomized to receive either atorvastatin (5 mg. kg-1. d-1) (n = 20, atorvastatin group) or normal diet (n = 20, model group). Another eight weeks later, all rats were killed and part of their aortas were examined by light and electron microscope and the left were removed for western blot analysis to measure PKC; At the begin and end of experiment, serumcollected for lipid and C-reactive protein determining determination. Results Cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein, triglyceride levels in atorvastatin group were significantly lower than those in model group but higher than control group. The pathologic changes in atorvastatin group were less severe than those in model group, there showed no any pathological changes in control group. The levels of C-reactive protein in model group[(18.64 ± 0.94) mg/L] were higher than those in control group [(9.21 ± 0.21)mg/L] (P<0.05). C-reactive protein levels also differed significantly between control and atorvastatin group (12.52 ± 0.65 mg/L)( P<0.05). PKC levels were significantly higher in model group (7786.12 ± 264.75)and atorvastatin group (4267.57 ± 233.94) than in control group (2468.75 ± 145.53)(all P<0.05). But compared with model group, PKC levels were markedly lower in the atorvastatin group ( P<0.01 ).Conclusions Atorvastatin may be useful not only as a cholesterol-lowering agents but also as anti-arteriosclerotic agent that provide vascular protection by inhibition PKC expression and inflammatory reaction.
