1.Application of double-low technique to aortic MSCTA

Objective To discuss the feasibility of double-low technique applied in aortic MSCTA.Methods Totally 70 patients with BMI not more than 25 kg/m2 were divided into a routine group and an experimental group randomly and equally,and then went through aortic MSCTA.Iohexol (350 mgI/ml) was injected with the velocity of 4 ml/s.The routine group had the parameters as 120 kV,120 mAs and 1.5 ml/kg contrast agent,and the experimental group had the parameters as 90 kV,120 mAs and 1.0 ml/kg contrast agent,while the other scanning parameters were kept the same in the two groups.The radiation doses,contrast agent doses and iodine contents were recorded in the two groups,and the image quality was assessed with double-blind method objectively and subjectively.Results The experimental group had the CT dose index volumes (CTDIvol),dose length product (DLP) and effect dose (ED) significantly lower than those in the routine group (P<0.05).The two groups had the consistency of subjective scores (Kappa>0.6) and image quality scores (not lower than 2) meet the desired requirements,and there were no significant differences between the scores (P>0.05).Objective evaluation showed that the signal values of aortic trunk and major branch vessels as well as image noise SD of the experimental group were obviously higher than those in the routine group (P<0.05).There were no statistical differences between the signal noise ratios (SNR) and contrast to noises (CNR) in the two groups (P>0.05),The iodine content in the contrast agent of the experimental group was significantly lower than that in the routine group (P<0.05).Conclusion Double-low technique applied in aortic MSCTA of the patient with BMI not more than 25 kg/m2 reduces the radiation dose and iodine content in the contrast agent,has the image quality meet the desired requirements,and thus is of great value for clinical application.
2.Application of circular dichroism to the study of interactions between small molecular compounds and DNA.

Circular dichroism (CD) is an useful technique for monitoring DNA conformation changes resulting from changes in environmental conditions, such as temperature, ionic strength, and pH, and also for the study of the interaction between DNA and ligands (including small molecules and proteins). CD spectroscopy of DNA arises from the asymmetric backbone sugars and by the helical structures often adopted by nucleic acids. By the interpretation of induced circular dichroism (ICD) of ligand signals resulting from the coupling of electric transition moments of the ligand, DNA bases within the asymmetric DNA environment, ligand-DNA interactions, as well as the DNA-binding mode can be assessed. A number of important conclusions have been reported that related to the observed ICD signals resulting from the interactions between intercalators and groove binders with DNA. If short oligonucleotide sequences are used in the study, sequences-specific of binding also can be deduced. CD determination requires smaller amounts of sample, and not limited by the molecular weight or size and can be performed rapidly; though CD is of low resolution, but it's a complement to NMR and X-ray diffraction methods. This review will introduce the characters of the CD spectra of DNA, and its application to the studies of DNA with small molecules; some progress of the studies in our laboratory will also be discussed. CD is expected to be used as a screening method in seeking more DNA-targeted drugs, such as, antineoplastic, antimicrobial and antiviral drugs.
3.Research and realization of ECG monitoring system against high-frequency interference by electrosurgical unit

In modern surgeries, ESU is an important electrosurgical equipment. However, the interference caused by ESU usually affects real-time monitoring of the patient. To solve these problems, the paper introduces some new ideas in analog circuits. To the problem of interference and base-line excursion, this paper proposes an adaptive comb filter with Phase-Locked Loop(PLL), besides digital comb filters. Following the frequency of power and sampling accordingly, this method could easily clear the interference, which could make the cost reduced.
4.The inhibited effect of matrine on human nasopharyngeal carcinoma CNE2 cells and the expression of apoptosis related gene Caspase in vitro.

OBJECTIVE:
To evaluate the inhibited effect of matrine on human nasopharyngeal carcinoma CNE2 cells and the expression of apoptosis-related gene Caspase-3 mRNA, Caspase-3, Caspase-8, Caspase-9 protein. And to explore the inhibiting effect of matrine on the apoptosis of human nasopharyngeal carcinoma CNE2 cells.
METHOD:
In vitro experiments, MTT assay was used to detect the effect of matrine on CNE2 cell proliferation with different concentration. The expression levels of Caspase-3 were detected by real-time PCR. Western Blot was used to gauge the levels of Caspase-3, Caspase-8 and Caspase-9 protein.
RESULT:
MTT results showed significant inhibitory action of matrine on CNE2 cells proliferation in does-dependent manner, which could up-regulate the expression of Caspase-3 mRNA and Caspase-3, Caspase-8, Caspase-9 protein in a dose-dependent manner.
CONCLUSION
Matrine could inhibit CNE2 cells proliferation in a does-dependent,that was closely related to the up-regulation of Caspase-3 mRNA and Caspase-3, Caspase-8 and Caspase-9 protein expression, and to the cascade reaction of Caspase.

5.Repeated magnetic stimulation improves the effectiveness of exercise therapy in relieving ankle spasticity after stroke

Objective To study the effect of repetitive peripheral magnetic stimulation combined with exercise on spasticity in the ankle plantar flexors among stroke survivors.Methods Sixty stroke survivors with spasticity in their ankle plantar flexors were randomly divided into a treatment group and a control group,each of 30.Both groups were given conventional kinesitherapy,while the treatment group were additionally provided with repeti-tive peripheral magnetic stimulation for 4 weeks.The myoelectric activity of the agonist and antagonist muscles was recorded using surface electromyography during maximum isometric voluntary contractions of the ankle dorsiflexors and co-contraction ratios (CRs) were calculated.The motor function,walking ability and ankle plantar flexor spasticity were evaluated using the Fugl-Meyer lower extremity assessment (FMA-LE),functional ambulation categories (FACs) and a composite spasticity scale (CSS).Results Before the intervention there was no signification difference between the two groups in terms of any of the assessments.After 4 weeks of treatment,the average integrated EMG of the anterior tibialis in the treatment group was significantly better than in the control group.That group's average FMA-LE and FAC scores were also significantly better.The experimental group's average spasticity score and co-contraction ratio during maximum isometric voluntary contractions of the ankle dorsiflexors had both decreased significantly.All of the improvements in the treatment group were significantly better than those in the control group.Conclusion Repetitive peripheral magnetic stimulation combined with the exercise therapy can effectively reduce ankle plantar flexior spasticity while improving motor function and walking ability.It is more effective than exercise alone.
6.Research update on osteoporosis and psychological stress

Osteoporosis and chronic psychological stress are two serious chronic degenerative diseases that cause disability and impact population health. Patients with osteoporosis often present with heavier psychological burden, lower quality of life, and frequent symptoms of depression and anxiety. There are potential common pathogenic factors, cellular mechanisms and signaling pathways between them. Considering that the number of patient with these diseases is huge and growing rapidly, it is particularly important to explore the pathogenic link between these two diseases as well as cross-effect therapeutics for osteoporosis and mental health disorders.
7.Progress on prevention of osteoporosis with Mediterranean diet

The Mediterranean diet refers to the dietary pattern derived from eating habits of the southern European countries along the Mediterranean coast. It is a healthy diet pattern with essential nutrients. It was reported that the incidence of osteoporosis in the Mediterranean countries is lower, so it is of particular interest to explore the effect and potential mechanism of the diet on bone health. Applying research results of the Mediterranean diet to the prevention of osteoporosis in other countries is a feasible way to reduce the incidence of osteoporosis in the future.
8.COVID-19 related autoimmune myopathy: 5 cases report

Objective:To analyze the clinical characteristics, imaging, myopathology and outcomes of patients with COVID-19 related autoimmune myopathy.Methods:The clinical features, serum creatine kinase (CK), myositis antibodies, muscle magnetic resonance imaging, myopathology and therapy of 5 patients with COVID-19 related autoimmune myopathy diagnosed in Peking University First Hospital from December 2022 to April 2023 were collected. The effects of the therapy after a short term follow up were analyzed.Results:Among the 5 patients, there were 3 males and 2 females, with onset age of 42-86 years. All patients presented with proximal muscle weakness in the recovery term of COVID-19. Myalgia was noted in 3 cases, dysphagia in 1, skin damage in 2, interstitial lung disease in 1. The serum CK of the 5 patients was 1 663-16 000 IU/L, 1 patient had anti-3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-CoA reductase autoantibodies and 1 patient had anti-signal recognition particle autoantibodies. The electromyography showed myogenic lesions in all patients. Muscle magnetic resonance imaging showed diffuse muscle edema in all patients, myofascial edema in 3 and subcutaneous-tissue edema in 3. The muscle biopsies in 4 patients revealed necrotic myopathy,with high P62 expression in muscle fibers. The electromicroscopy of 2 patients revealed vacuolated mitochondria and intranuclear tubulofilamentous inclusions in muscle fibers. Four patients were treated with glucocorticoids, of whom 2 patients combined with intravenous immunoglobulin, tacrolimus or cyclophosphamide. One case had close monitoring without drug therapy. They showed significant improvement, but the CK was still abnormal in 4 patients.Conclusions:COVID-19 leads to immune mediated myopathy. The manifestation of patients is characterized by proximal predominant weakness and high creatine kinase level. Muscle magnetic resonance imaging shows diffuse muscle edema. The muscle biopsies reveal necrotic myopathy. The effectiveness of immunosuppression needs to be further studied.
9.Clinical efficacy of electroacupuncture combined with motor imagery therapy on hemiplegic cerebral infarction.

OBJECTIVETo explore the effects of electroacupuncture (EA) combined with motor imagery therapy on motor function and activity of daily living in patients with hemiplegic cerebral infarction.
METHODSNinety patients with hemiplegic cerebral infarction were randomly divided into a rehabilitation group, an EA group and a comprehensive group, 30 patients in each one. The patients in the rehabilitation group were treated with regular care, medication and rehabilitation training; based on the rehabilitation group, the patients in the EA group were treated mainly with electroacupuncture at Baihui (GV 20), Dingnieqianxiexian (MS 6), Dingniehouxiexian (MS 7), Jianyu (LI 15), Waiguan (TE 5), Fengshi (GB 31) and Sanyinjiao (SP 6); with the arrival of. EA device was connected for 30 min. The patients in the comprehensive group were treated with EA as the EA group and motor imagery therapy, 20 min per treatment. The treatment was given once a day, five treatments per week, and totally 4-week treatment was performed. The Barthel index and Brunnstrom score before and after treatment were observed in the three groups.
RESULTSThree cases did not finish the trial and finally 87 cases were included into analysis, including 30 cases in the rehabilitation group, 29 cases in the EA group and 28 cases in the comprehensive group. Compared before treatment, the Barthel index and Brunnstrom score were significantly improved after treatment in the three groups (all<0.01); after treatment, the Barthel index in the EA group and comprehensive group was significantly higher than that in the rehabilitation group (both<0.01); the lower extremity score of Brunnstrom score in the comprehensive group was better than those in the EA group and rehabilitation group (both<0.05).
CONCLUSIONEA combined with motor imagery therapy and rehabilitation can significantly improve the motor function and activity of daily living in patients with hemiplegic cerebral infarction, which is superior to rehabilitation alone or EA alone.
