1.Materials for cartilage repair following sport articular cartilage injury
Chinese Journal of Tissue Engineering Research 2007;0(12):-
Knee joint is easily injured in daily life, in particular, incidence rate of articular cartilage is high due to a long-term high pressure stress and poor regeneration capacity. Therefore, articular cartilage injury is hard to be treated and attracts more and more attention in the domain of sport medicine. At present, a large quantity of methods for repairing cartilage is still developing. The recent studies indicate that autoallergic cartilage transplantation is the best method to repair sport articular cartilage injury. However, it is hard to be used widely due to its poor collection. In contrast, cell transplantation is frequently used to repair articular cartilage injury, but scaffold materials involving in long-term instability still need to be further studied in the future.

ObjectiveTo explore the feasibility of non-nasal packing after correction of nasal septum. Methods53 cases of simple deviation of nasal septum were underwent endoscopic correction of nasal septum. The continuous suction in surgical cavity through catheter without nasal packing after surgery was applied to 46 cases with intact double-mucosa or little wound that could be sutured in front of nasal septum. ResultsOf the 46 patients, the volume of the bleeding 3 days after the operation were(8.1 ± 5.6)ml.The degree of the nasal mucosa edema in 33 patients were lightened than others, the space between the inferior nasal concha and the nasal septum were fine as well as the ventilation of the nasal cavity.Among those cases, there were 13 patients with severe nasal mucosa edema(5 cases were allergic rhinitis)which were treated with ephedrine and furaciline solution or glucocorticoid,as the results, the nasal mucosa shrinked, and the patients could respire well. The catheter were extracted 3 days after the operation until the primary healing. All the cases were healing well without the the nasal septum hematoma and other complications which were follow up more than half a year. ConclusionThe method of continuous suction in surgical cavity through catheter without nasal packing was feasible if double nasal septum mucosa was intact after correction of nasal septum.

Objective To detect the effect of the operative and non-operative therapy on acute mesenteric venous thrombosis (AMVT).Methods The documents of 18 AMVT patients from Jan 1990 to May 2006 were reviewed retrospectively. Results In 18 patients, 12 cases with intestinal necrosis received operation, among them, 2 cases received the operation only and 10 cases added with anti-coagulation therapy further. The rest 6 patients received non-operative therapy. All of 18 patients recovered well. Conclusion Non-operative therapy is safe and effective for the patients without intestinal necrosis. Post-operative anti-coagulation therapy is very important for the patients received the operative therapy.

BACKGROUND:Diameter and length of mini-implant have effects on its stability, which has been reported mostly in I and II osteoid, but less in IV osteoid. OBJECTIVE:To optimize the design of mini-implant diameter and length in IV osteoid by a three-dimensional finite element analysis. METHODS:Implant-mandible solid model was established. A 2 N orthodontic force that was perpendicular to the long axis of the implant and at a 30° angle with the distal central axis was applied onto the top of the implant. The implant was designed for different diameters (1.2-2.0 mm) and lengths (6-10 mm). Peak stress and peak displacement of the mandible were mechanicaly assessed, and stress sensitivity variables were analyzed. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:The stress and displacement of the implant were mainly concentrated in the neck of the implant. The stress of implant-bone interface mainly focused on the contact area of the implant-cortical bone interface, and the stress of the cancelous bone was relatively smal, but the stress of the cortical bone was weakened faster. When the implant length was constant, the implant diameter had a great effect on stress changes, and the stress of bone tissue was reduced with the increase of implant diameter. When the implant diameter was constant, the implant length had no significant effect on the stress of bone tissue. To sum up, the stress of bone tissue and displacement were sensitive to the change of implant diameter rather than the change of implant length. These findings indicate that implant diameter has a greater effect on stress distribution of bone tissue than the implant length, and the implants with > 1.5 mm in diameter are suitable for IV osteoid.

Objective To observe the intervention effect of electro-acupuncture(EA) on mammalian target of rapamycin(mTOR) expression in hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy(HIE) newborn rats. Methods Seven-day-old SD rats were randomly assigned into 3 groups, namely sham-surgery group, HIE model group, and EA group. All of the groups were subdivided into 4 subgroups in terms of 4 time periods of 1, 3, 7 and 21 day(s). Hematoxylin-eosin staining was used for the observation of histological changes in the affected cerebral region. Expression levels of cerebral mTOR were detected with Western blotting method. Results The results of HE staining showed that EA group at experimental day 21 had clear organizational structure, ordered arrangement of neurons, relieved cellular swelling, well cell integrity with clear nucleolus and proliferative glial cells. Compared with the sham-surgery group, mTOR level of the model group was dramatically increased on the 1st, 3rd, 7th and 21st day(P<0.05), and the mTOR expression level of EA group was significantly higher than that in the model group at the above time points (P < 0.05). Conclusion EA can promote mTOR expression in brain tissue and can protect the brain of newborn rats from HIE.

Objective To establish the analytical method for fingerprint of Aristolochia manshuriensis by HPLC-DAD-ESI/MS,which can be used as the basis for quality control of the drug and for the further studies on kidney toxicity metabolite. Methods Samples A.manshuriensis from different habitats were extracted by 75% methanol and analyzed by HPLC-DAD-ESI/MS,whose chromatographic fingerprints were established. Two ways to calculate the similarity were selected to compare the results by determining the common peaks. Results There were 30 main characteristic components in A.manshuriensis.The HPLC-DAD-ESI/MS fingerprint of the 30 common peaks was established preliminarily. The samples of A.manshuriensis from different habitats was found having a good similarity, and the range of similarities for 24 balches of A.manshuriensis were 0.871—0.998.Conclusion The method is reliable, accurate, and of good stability, and can be used for the quality control and variety identification of A.manshuriensis.

Chinese Journal of General Surgery 1993;0(01):-
Objective To find a novel operative modality with sphincter preservation in the treatment of middle and low rectal carcinoma. Methods Pull through lower resection was performed on 28 rectal cancer patients. The distance between the anal verge and the lower margin of the tumor was 6~8cm(20 patients) or 8~10cm(8 patients), including 8 patients in Dukes A stage, 16 Dukes B and 4 Dukes C. The resected line from tumor distal margin was 2cm, 3cm, and 4cm, respectively. Results There was no operative death, anastomotic fistula or anastomotic stenosis in these cases. Mean follow up period was 30 months. Local recurrence was found in two cases (7.1%) 18 months after the operation, and 26 cases were cancer free till the end of the follow up. Defecation was satisfactorily controlled 8~12 weeks after the operation. Conclusions Pull through Welch procedure could meet the criterion of the radical resection of rectal carcinoma, and keep the internal and external sphincter muscles intact in the superior lower anterior resection. The normal defecationcan can maintain after the operation due to the preservation of internal and external sphincter muscles.
