Objective Using MRI compatible OxyLiteTM fiber-optic microprobes to verify the reliability of detecting the oxygenation changes in rats C6 glioma by BOLD fMRI with non- hemodynamic response function (non-HRF) post-processing algorithm. Methods A total of 20 male SD rats were used to establish the subcutaneous C6 glioma model. GRE-EPI BOLD fMRI scans were performed in the tumor-bearing rats with Carbogen inhalation after anatomic scans using 1.5 T MR imaging system with
Micro-47 microscopic coil. Fiber-optic microprobes were implanted in tumor to acquire the dynamic pO2 indications during BOLD fMRI scan.“Oxy-localization map”and“oxy-amplitude map”were generated from BOLD functional image data by non-HRF post-processing algorithm analysis. A ROI about 1.5 mm on a side centered to the tip of microprobe was defined on the MRI morphological image, and then was copied onto the“oxy-localization map”and“oxy-amplitude map”to extract the values of significant re-oxygenation (T), percent BOLD signal change (ΔPSC). The mean difference of pO2(ΔpO2) measured by fiber-optic microprobes before(pO2-Air)and after (pO2-Car)Carbogen inhalation in the ROI areas was calculated. Correlation analysis was madebetween cov (T value, Δ pO2) and cov (ΔPSC value, Δ pO2). The difference between pO2-Air and pO2-Car were tested by Mann Whitney U test. Results pO2 was successfully measured and recorded from 23 points in tumor using fiber-optic microprobe during the BOLD fMRI scan. The analysis results both of physiological and functional imaging parameters were as follows: pO2-Air=2.285(19.056) mmHg,pO2-Car=14.701(48.390)mmHg,ΔpO2=8.107(33.557)mmHg,ΔPSC=0.402(2.192)%,T=2.025 (8.293). (1) 10 points were identified clearly in parenchyma area of tumor. The mean value of pO2 during air inhalation [19.462(21.511)mmHg] significantly increased after Carbogen inhalation [59.904(56.710)mmHg] (U=14.000,P=0.007). (2) 5 points were identified in tumor necrosis area. The mean value of pO2 during air inhalation [0.149(0.479)mmHg] showed no significant change comparing with Carbogen inhalation[0.273 (8.050)mmHg](U=9.000,P=0.465). (3) 8 points were identified in the boundary of tumor parenchyma and necrosis areas. Among which, 5 showed the similar pO2 change to that located in tumor necrosis area, 2 showed the similar to the tumor parenchyma. However, the pO2 showed continuously decrease after Carbogen inhalation in the last 1 point. TheΔpO2 measured from the total of 23 points correlated positively toΔPSC and T value extracted from the corresponding ROI (r=0.660,0.576,P<0.01). TheΔpO2 measured from 10 points in tumor parenchyma correlated positively to ΔPSC(r=0.717,P=0.020). Conclusion“Oxy-localization map”and“oxy-amplitude map”generated from BOLD fMRI combined with non-HRF post-processing algorithm could show reliably not only the location but also the extent where the re-oxygenation occurred within tumor.

Objective:To determine the characteristics of cervical neuroblastoma and the effect of resection extent on survival and outcomes. Methods:We performed a retrospective review of 32 children with cervical neuroblastoma treated at Beijing Children′s Hospital between April 2013 and August 2020. Data were collected from the medical record. The individualized therapy was designed based on staging and risk group. Based on the extent of resection, patients were divided into incomplete and complete resection groups. Event free and overall survival rates were compared between two groups using the Kaplan-Meier method. Results:The ages of patients ranged from 1 month to 81 months, with a median age of 11 months, including 7 males and 15 females. Twenty-nine patients (90.6%) presented with cervical painless mass. The average diameter of the primary tumors was (5.12±1.43) cm. Tumors were located in the parapharyngeal space in 25 cases (78.1%) and in the root of the neck in 7 cases (21.9%). None had MYCN amplification. According to International Neuroblastoma Staging System (INSS), 15 patients (46.9%) were identified as stage 1, 11 patients (34.3%) as stage 2B, 3 patients (9.4%) as stage 3 and 3 patients (9.4%) as stage 4. There were 12 patients (37.5%) at low risk, 17 patients (53.1%) at intermediate risk and 3 patients at high risk according to Children′s Oncology Group (COG) risk classification system. All patients underwent tumor resection. Postoperatively Horner′s syndrome occurred in 13 patients (40.6%), pneumonia in 9 patients (28.1%), pharyngeal dysfunction in 8 patients (25.0%) and transient hoarseness in 4 patients (12.5%). At a median follow-up of 36.5 months, the overall survival rate was 96.4%, with no significant difference between incomplete and complete resection groups (100.0% vs. 96.3%, χ 2=0.19, P=0.667); the event free survival rate was 78.1%, with a significant difference between the two groups (40.0% vs. 85.2%, χ2=6.71, P=0.010). Conclusions:Primary cervical neuroblastoma has a young onset age, mostly in low and medium risk groups, and represents favorable lesions with good outcomes after multidisciplinary therapy. Less aggressive surgery with preservation of important structures is recommended. Complete resection should not be attempted if it would compromise vital structures.

Objective To establish an animal model of dampness-syndrome in mice (single model) and evaluate its characteristics of dampness-syndrome. The above-mentioned mice with dampness syndrome were used to construct mice model of ischemic stroke (double model) and observe the effect of dampness-pathogenic on the outcome of stroke. Methods Healthy C57BL/6J male mice were randomly divided into dampness-syndrome (including sham-surgery group and ischemic stroke group, with 10 mice in each group) and non dampness-syndrome groups (including sham-surgery group and ischemic stroke group, with 10 mice in each group). The dampness-syndrome group was fed with high-fat diet and the non dampness-syndrome group was fed with normal diet for 12 weeks. After the mice model of dampness-syndrome was successfully established, transient middle cerebral artery occlusion/reperfusion (tMCAO/R) surgery was used to replicate an ischemic stroke mice model. Evaluation indicators for dampness-syndrome mice model:the general status including body weight, morphology, posture, activity status, and physical characteristics, the histopathological observation of the aorta (oil red O staining,Masson-trichrome staining) and liver (HE staining, oil red O staining),electron microscopic observation of the tongue tissue (scanning electron microscopy, electron microscopy),blood lipid levels[total cholesterol(TC),triglycerides(TG)]and liver coefficient. Evaluation indicators for ischemic stroke mice model:neurological function score and the cerebral infarction volume ratio. Results Compared with the non dampness-syndrome group, the mice in the dampness-syndrome group showed an increased in body weight, poor hair color, sparse hair, fatigue and laziness, mental atrophy, anorexia and lethargy. It was observed that the aortic lumen was narrowed, the intima was significantly thickened, lipid plaque deposition was increased, and foam cells were visible. A large amount of red lipid droplets appeared in liver cells. There were obvious lipid infiltration and diffuse steatosis. Increased keratosis of the mucosal layer of tongue tissue, the thicker stratum corneum, lipofuscin, and bacteria on the tongue surface were found. Serum TG and TC levels significantly increased(P<0.01),and the liver coefficient significantly decreased (P<0.001). Compared with non dampness-syndrome group (sham-surgery group),neurological function score and the cerebral infarction volume ratio in dampness-syndrome ischemic stroke group obviously increased (P<0.001). Conclusion High-fat feeding for 12 weeks combined with tMCAO/R modeling can successfully establish a mice model with dampness-syndrome ischemic stroke, and the neurological function score and cerebral infarction volume in the dampness-syndrome ischemic stroke group was more severe than that in the non dampness-syndrome ischemic stroke group.

Objective To analyze the data of prostate cancer in Wuhan from 2010 to 2019, understand the characteristics and trends of incidence, mortality, and YLL, and provide decision-making basis for Wuhan's cancer prevention and control strategies. Methods Data on deaths and incident cases of prostate cancer in Wuhan from 2010 to 2019 and from 2013 to 2017, respectively, were collected from the Wuhan Death Monitoring System. Indicators such as incidence rate, mortality rate, and years of life lost due to premature death (YLL) of prostate cancer in Wuhan were calculated using Excel 2016 and Python. The Bayesian Age-Period-Cohort Model (BAPC) was used to predict the mortality rate of prostate cancer in Wuhan from 2020 to 2024. The trend changes were described using the annual average percentage change (AAPC). Results From 2010 to 2019, the incidence, mortality, and YLL rates of prostate cancer in Wuhan showed an overall increasing trend (AAPC >0, P <0.05). The standardized mortality and incidence rates in the central urban area were significantly higher than those in the outer urban area, and the age group of 85 and above had the highest incidence and mortality rates. The age group of 0-54 had the largest increase in incidence and mortality rates. From 2020 to 2024, prostate cancer in Wuhan is expected to continue to increase slightly (an increase of 0.94%). Conclusion The incidence, mortality, and YLL rates of prostate cancer in Wuhan are showing an overall increasing trend, and this trend may continue. The characteristics are higher in the central urban area than in the outer urban area, and higher in the older age group than in the younger age group. Targeted measures need to be taken, and screening for high-risk populations should be strengthened.

Chinese Journal of Experimental Traditional Medical Formulae 2025;31(5):260-268
Psoriasis is a common chronic inflammatory systemic disease in dermatology. Its high prevalence, recurrence rate, and numerous comorbidities impose a significant physical and mental burden on patients. With the continuous advancement of modern medicine, the emergence of biological agents has improved clinical efficacy, making it possible to overcome psoriasis, in addition to classical treatments. However, in clinical practice, adverse reactions, drug resistance, recurrence rates, and immune drift cannot be ignored. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has a history of thousands of years in treating psoriasis, demonstrating good efficacy, high safety, and a low recurrence rate, but a standardized management system is lacking. Therefore, the 25th Clinical Diseases Responding Specially to TCM Treatment Series (Psoriasis) Youth Salon, hosted by the Chinese Association of Chinese Medicine and organized by the Youth Committee of the Chinese Association of Chinese Medicine, invited 29 experts and scholars from TCM, Western medicine, and interdisciplinary fields to actively discuss the "Advantages, Challenges, and Clinical Transformation of TCM and Western Medicine in the Diagnosis and Treatment of Psoriasis". The experts at the meeting concluded that the advantages of TCM in the treatment of psoriasis are as follows. Firstly, in the TCM-led treatment plan, TCM's understanding of psoriasis follows the principle of combining the differentiation of disease and syndrome. This approach distinguishes the basic contradiction from the current main contradiction and enables a clear grasp of the dynamic process of psoriasis development. Based on the system of syndrome differentiation and treatment, TCM intervention is applied to address the current main contradiction, and the optimal TCM treatment plan is formulated by combining internal and external treatments. Adhering to the principle of "what is visible outside must be addressed inside", TCM can prevent and treat psoriasis comorbidities early by differentiating syndrome types. Secondly, in the integrated TCM and Western medicine treatment plan, the combination of both methods not only enhances efficacy but also reduces the adverse reactions of immunosuppressants and biological agents, lowering the recurrence rate. This conference provides a reference for the diagnosis and treatment of psoriasis using TCM and integrated TCM and Western medicine, opening up new ideas for clinical and basic research and guiding future research directions.
