Objective To establish a method for the determination of methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE) in the cerebrospinal fluid of rats by gas chromatography and to know whether MTBE can penetrate the blood brain barrier. Methods 9 male SD rats were randomly divided into 3 groups and then exposed to MTBE by gavage at a dose of 1000 mg/kg?bw and by inhalation at a dose of 8 ml/L for 30 days. The cerebrospinal fluid was collected at 6 h, 12 h and 24 h respectively at the end of treatment and the MTBE in rats cerebrospinal fluid was determined by gas chromatography. Results MTBE was detected in the cerebrospinal fluid of rats after subchronic exposure of MTBE through gavage and inhalation. Conclusion MTBE is able to penetrate the blood brain barrier and reach the brain.

Objective To establish a rapid method having great capability for enrichment and anti-interference, higher sensitivity and good precision for determination of trace silver in drinking water. Methods The conditions of determination such as the definition of peak potentials, the selection of auxiliary electrolytes, the selection of kind and amount of oxidants and anti-interference test were carried out by MP-1 potentiometer using glass-carbon electrode. Results The lowest detection limit, average recorery rate and average relative standard deviation were 0.004 ug/ml, 100.3% and 2.73% respectively. Conclusion This method was suitable for determination of trace silver in drinking water.

Objective: To evaluate the clinical efficacy of sinew-regulating bone-setting manipulations plus exercise therapy in treating chronic non-specific low back pain (CNLBP). Methods: A total of 65 CNLBP patients were divided into two groups by the random number table method. Thirty-three cases in the treatment group were intervened by sinew-regulating bone-setting manipulations plus exercise therapy; 32 cases in the control group were intervened by medium-frequency electrotherapy plus exercise therapy. Before and after treatment, visual analog scale (VAS), dynamic and static muscle endurance of low back, median frequency (MF) of surface electromyography (sEMG) and Oswestry disability index (ODI) were used to evaluate the low back function. The therapeutic efficacy was estimated after treatment. Results: The two groups each had 2 dropouts during the study. The total effective rate was 90.3％ in the treatment group versus 66.7％ in the control group, and the between-group difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). After treatment, the VAS score, dynamic and static muscle endurance of low back, MF of sEMG and ODI score all changed significantly in both groups (all P<0.05); all the items in the treatment group were significantly different from those in the control group (all P<0.05). Conclusion: Sinew-regulating bone-setting manipulations plus exercise therapy can effectively release pain in CNLBP patients, increase muscle endurance of the low back and improve the quality of life, and its therapeutic efficacy is more significant than that of medium-frequency electrotherapy plus exercise therapy.

OBJECTIVETo observe the effects of electroacupuncture (EA) on circadian rhythm of temperature and melatonin (MT) in depression rats model induced by chronic stress, so as to explore the biological mechanism of EA for depression.

METHODSTwenty-four SD rats were randomly divided into a control group, a model group and an EA group, 8 cases in each one. Rats in the control group were treated with normal diet for 21 days without any treatment. In the model and EA group, rat model was established by chronic unpredictable stress combined with solitarily feeding method, and rats in the EA group was treated with EA at "Baihui" (GV 20), "Yintang" (GV 29) 1 h before stress stimulation everyday, 2 Hz in frequency and intensity was favorable with the head of rat slightly shivering. The needles were retained for 20 min, once a day for totally 21 days. After EA treatment, open-field experiment was adopted to observe the behavioral improvement; the rats temperatures were monitored at six time points (2:00, 6:00, 10:00, 14:00, 18:00, 22:00) and orbital blood sampling was collected. The level of serum MT was tested by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay. The circadian rhythm changes of temperature and serum MT in each group were compared.

RESULTSThe numbers of horizontal movement and vertical movement in the model group were obviously lower than those in the control group (both P < 0.05), while those in the EA group were significantly improved compared with those in the model group (both P < 0.01). The circadian rhythm of temperature and MT disappeared in the model group, which was improved into normal level after EA treatment.

CONCLUSIONThe electroacupuncture has regulation effects on circadian rhythm of temperature and melatonin in depression rat model induced by chronic stress.

Objective To investigate stilbene glycosides(TSG) and PNS concomitantly on PC12 cell survival rate of Alzheimer's disease.Methods The nerve cells that were seeded on the two culture plates were cultured for 1 day after the removal of primary culture fluid.In addition to the blank group, the model group and drug compatibility group were added 5 μl Aβ25-35 perpore to induced PC12 cell damage.To established AD cell damage model after exposure to the circumstances for 24 hours.Uniform design and factorial design were used respectively.After 1 d, using MTT method in ELISA analyzer measured the OD value of each pore, and calculating the survival rate of cells.Results The uniform design results showed that the cell survival rate was significantly linear with TSG and PNS (P＜0.05).From the equation, The higher the dose, the higher the cell survival rate.In this experimental condition, TSG and PNS respectively 50 mg/L, 200 mmol/L achieved the highest cell survival rate.2×2 factorial design experiments showed that, compared with the model group, the cell survival rate of TSG-PNS group (74.46％ ± 2.06％ vs.65.42％ ± 1.42％) increased (P＜0.05), but there was no interaction between the two groups (P=0.053).This showed that the combination of the two drugs in this dose has a protective effect on AD damage.Conclusion The compatibility of total saponins of two stilbene glucoside and three seven combination has the synergistic effect of anti AD damage.

Background:Besides typical gastroesophageal reflux symptoms,some reflux esophagitis( RE)patients also complain“morning sour taste in mouth”,but related studies are rare. Aims:To study the pathophysiology of RE with sour taste in mouth. Methods:Fifty-two RE patients with typical regurgitation symptom and confirmed by endoscopy from Mar. 2013 to Oct. 2013 at Tianjin Medical University General Hospital were enrolled. Patients were divided into two groups according to whether there was an existence of morning sour taste in mouth. Results of esophageal manometry and 24-hour esophageal impedance-pH monitoring were analyzed. Nine healthy volunteers who had esophageal manometry performed were served as controls. Results:Length of lower esophageal sphincter( LESL)was shortened and LES pressure( LESP)and effective peristalsis of esophageal body were decreased in both RE groups when compared with controls( P ﹤ 0. 05 ). Upper esophageal sphincter pressure( UESP)was significantly lower and more nocturnal reflux episodes occurred in RE group with sour taste than those without( P ﹤ 0. 05 );however,no significant differences in other manometric and reflux parameters were found between RE groups with and without sour taste(P﹥0. 05). Conclusions:Esophageal motility and reflux events in RE patients with morning sour taste in mouth are somewhat different from those without sour taste. Decrease in UESP might be an important pathophysiological mechanism of sour taste in mouth in RE patients.

Objective To evaluate the influence of blood transfusion or pregnancy on blood cross-matching results.Methods 1 000 specimens with blood transfusion or pregnancy history were collected and performed the blood group typing,blood cross matching,irregular antibody screening and identification by the micro-gel method with the specimens of first time transfuse blood and without pregnancy history as the control.The inconsistency rate of positive negative blood grouping,unqualified rate of blood cross matching and the positive rate of irregular antibody were compared between the two groups by the t-test.The causes influen-cing the blood cross-matching results were analyzed.Results The inconsistency rate of blood cross-matching in the blood transfu-sion or pregnancy group was significantly higher than that in the control group(P <0.05);the inconsistency rate of positive nega-tive blood grouping was similar in the two groups(P >0.05);the positive rate of irregular antibody screening in the blood transfu-sion or pregnancy group was also significantly higher than that in the control group(P <0.05),indicating that the main causes in-fluencing blood cross matching was the existence of irregular antibodies in the patients in vivo.Conclusion Blood transfusion or pregnancy may stimulate the body to produce the irregular antibodies.Therefore the irregular antibody screening should be per-formed before blood transfusion and blood without corresponding antigen will be selected for transfusion according to the antibody identification results for ensuring safe and effective blood transfusion.

Male infertility is a worldwide problem, and about 15% of the cases are associated with spermatogenesis-related gene mutation. The mammalian gene UBE2B is the homolog of the RAD6 gene of yeast, belonging to the ubiquitin proteasome system and playing an important role in spermatogenesis. Mice lacking the UBE2B gene are infertile, with reduced sperm motility, increased morphologically abnormal sperm, and inhibited meiosis of spermatogonia. Accumulated evidence shows that UBE2B gene mutants and single nucleotide polymorphisms are associated with male infertility. This article reviews the relation between the UBE2B gene and male infertility, offering some theoretical evidence for the diagnosis and treatment of male infertility.
