Objective To observe the curative effect of erythrocyte separation in the treatment of patients with polycythemia vera (PV). Methods Sixty- five patients with P- were selected, and the patients were divided into control group (20 cases) and observation group (45 cases) according to the treatment method. All patients of 2 groups were treated with oral hydroxyurea and intramuscular interferon, but the patients of observation group combined with erythrocyte separation. The hemoglobin and hematocrit (HCT) before and after treatment and untoward reaction were compared between 2 groups. Results There were no statistical differences in hemoglobin and HCT before treatment between 2 groups:(196 ± 17) g/L vs. (182 ± 23) g/L and 0.606 ± 0.049 vs. 0.578 ± 0.066, P>0.05. The hemoglobin and HCT levels after treatment in observation group were significantly lower than those in control group:(153 ± 27) g/L vs. (168 ± 14) g/L and 0.490 ± 0.050 vs. 0.539 ± 0.054, and there were statistical differences (P<0.05). There was no obvious untoward reaction in 2 groups. Conclusions Erythrocyte separation is one of first choices for PV. It is safe and effective, and has less obvious untoward reaction.

Objective To examine the curative effect of EEG biofeedback therapy on children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD),and to investigate the neural mechanism underlying the executive function in children with ADHD.Methods 42 children with ADHD participated a Go/Nogo task before and after the EEG biofeedback therapy which was consisted of 20 times of treatments. The curative effect was evaluated using the behavioral and electrophysiological indexes associated with the Go/Nogo processing in the experiment. Results Commission error significantly decreased after the therapy ( (2.95 ±2.22 ) vs (4.65 ±4.47),P<0.05 ).Latencies of P2 ( (210.00 ± 27.54) ms vs ( 228.27 ± 34.17 ) ms) and N2 components ( ( 310.59 ± 45.82) ms vs (328.00 ± 42.27)ms) elicited by Go trials significantly exhibited shorter at the end of therapy.Additionally, the amplitude of N2 component elicited by Nogo trials exhibited significantly decreased after therapy ((0.23 ±3.79)μV vs (-1.84 ± 4.23 ) μV,P < 0.05).Conclusion The EEG biofeedback therapy is effective in debasing the hyperactivity/impulsive behaviors and improving the ability of target detection, which may be beneficial to the attention ability and conflict detecting in children with ADHD.EEG biofeedback is an effective treatment to ADHD.

BACKGROUND:Bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells can differentiate into osteoblasts under inducing condition that Zouguiwan and Youguiwan coordinate inducers, but the mechanism remains to be discussed. OBJECTIVE:To observe the effects of serum containing Zuoguiwan and Youguiwan on transforming growth factorβ1 and its signal transduction protein Smad2/3 message expression during the osteogenic differentiation of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells. METHODS:A whole bone marrow adherence method was adopted to isolate and cultivate bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells from rats. The cellcultivation was processed in five groups:bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells were respectively cultured with blank serum, serum containing Zouguiwan, serum containing Youguiwan, positive serum containing progynova+inducer (dexamethasone, vitamin C, andβ-glycerophosphate), and inducer. Western blot was applied to detect the expression of type I col agen. The immunohistochemical assay was utilized to test transforming growth factorβ1 and Smad2/3 expression in the osteoblasts. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:It was apparently more significant for serum containing Zuoguiwan and Youguiwan on type I col agen, transforming growth factorβ1 and Smad2/3 expression, compared with blank serum group and inducer group (P<0.05);moreover, serum containing Zuoguiwan was better than serum containing Youguiwan (P<0.05). Both of serum containing Zuoguiwan and Youguiwan are able to promote osteogenic differentiation of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells. Moreover, Zuoguiwan is much more effective indicating that this method of traditional Chinese medicine about nourishing kidneys can be better to promote osteogenic induction of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells.

Objective To analyze the antibody responses in guinea pigs vaccinated with recombi-nant vaccinia virus( rTT) strains expressing transmitted/founder ( T/F) HIV-1 membrane proteins in combi-nation with gp140 protein. Methods Guinea pigs were primed with rTT strains and boosted twice with gp140 protein in every four weeks.Serum samples were collected from guinea pigs before immunization and in 2, 6 and 10 weeks after the last immunization for the detection of HIV-1-specific binding antibodies, neu-tralizingantibodiesandtherelativeavidityofantibodies.Results (1)Thebindingantibodiesspecificto HIV-1 B′/C, B, AE subtypes were efficiently induced by the immunization of rTT-B, rTT-C and rTT-CON vaccinia strains in combination with gp140 protein. The antibody titers ranged from 111 430 to 1 024 000. More antibodies against HIV-1 B′/C and AE subtypes were induced in guinea pigs by the immunization of rTT-C and rTT-CON strains in combination with gp140 protein than those by using rTT-B strain prime-protein boost strategy (P<0.05).No significant differences with the titers of HIV-1 B subtype specific antibody were observed among the guinea pigs immunized with the three strategies.( 2 ) High titers of SF162 and ZM109 neutralizing antibodies were induced in guinea pigs immunized with rTT-B, rTT-C and rTT-CON vac-cinia strains in combination with gp140 protein, ranging from 83.76 to 649.30.No significant differences were found among the three groups.(3) The HIV-1 V1V2-gp70 specific antibodies associated with protec-tive immunity were induced by immunization of the three virus prime-protein boost strategies. No significant differences were observed among them.(4) Antibodies induced in guinea pigs by immunization of the three strategies showed strong affinity to membrane proteins of HIV-1 B′/C, B, AE subtype strains. No significant differences were found among the three immunization strategies. Conclusion A strong humoral immune re-sponse was induced in guinea pigs primed with recombinant vaccinia virus strains expressing T/F virus HIV-1 membrane proteins and boosted with gp140 protein.

Objective To establish an objective method for evaluating the intrinsic characteristics between cold and hot nature of Chinese materia medica(CMM)through the different effects of Mahuang decoction(MHD)and Maxing Shigan decoction(MSD)on animal temperature tropism. Methods The equipment with cold/hot pads was used to investigate the variety ofthe temperature tropism between two groups of mice treated by MHD and MSD,respectively.Meanwhile, the activities ofadenosine triphosphatase(ATPase),superoxide dismutase, succinate dehydrogenase, and malondialdehyde were measured. Results After treated by MHD,the macroscopic behavioral index of remaining rate on warm pad(40 ℃)of mice decreasedsignificantly(P < 0.05),suggesting the enhancement of cold tropism, meanwhile, the internal indices of ATPase activity and oxygen consuming volume increased significantly(P < 0.05),suggesting the enhancement of energy metabolism. On theother hand, the above-mentioned indices in MSD group changed on the inverse way. Conclusion The relative drug natureof MHD and MSD revealed in this study is consistent with the theoretical prognostication or definition. It indicates that theinternal cold and hot nature of CMM could be reflected in ethological way on the changes of animal temperature tropismwhich might be internally regulated by body energy metabolism.
