AIM : To explore the effects of DECB (deproteinized extract of calf blood, DECB) on hypoxia-reoxygenation-induced injury in cultured cardiac myocytes. METHODS : By using cultured myocardial cells as models, thenumber of death cells, beating frequency and the content of LDH were observed after hypoxia-reoxygenation-induced injury. RESULTS : 0.1 and 0.3 g?L -1 of DECB decreased the number of death cells and the content of lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), and restored the cellular beating frequency in the supernatant. CONCLUSION : DECB can protect the cultured myocardial cells against hypoxia-reoxygenation-induced injury.

Microbiology 1992;0(06):-
An actinomycete strain P-13, with antimicrobial activity against muskmelon bacterial spot pathogens, was isolated from the muskmelon rhizosphere soil samples in Xinjiang. The strain P-13 was identified as Streptomyces rochei based on morphological, physiological characteristics and 16S rRNA sequence analysis. The agar diffusion bioassay showed that the diameter of inhibition zone against Acidovorax avenae subsp. citrull BFB and Pseudomonas syringae pv. Lachrymans P4 was above 19 mm and 17 mm, respectively. The antimicrobial substances obtained from strain P-13 were demonstrated to be alkaline and water-soluble compounds according to paper chromatogram analysis and exocellular metabolites. Furthermore, it was stable to be treated by 100?C for 10 min, pH 6 for 6 h, or ultraviolet treatment for 7 h. Moreover, it was insoluble in organic solvents, such as petroleum benzine, diethyl ether, and acetic ether.

Objective To evaluate the effect of “flying kite” technique and detachable balloon on embolization of carotid-cavernous fistulas (CCF). Methods 9 cases of CCF were treated by using“flying kite”technique, and 6 cases of CCF were treated by using detachable balloon. Results In “flying kite” treatment group, 8 cases were completely cured, and 1 case was partly cured. In detachable ballon treatment group, all 6 cases were completely cured once. Conclusion The“flying kite”technique was simple method for embolization of CCF, which didn't need special instruments and materials, and was easy to use in the basic hospitals, but it could obstruct carotid artery and lead to CCF recurrence. The embolization of CCF by using detachable balloon had a higher curative rate and recurred rarely, but it needed special instruments and skills. Detachable balloon embolization of CCF is a reliable method for the treatment of CCF. [

Objective To introduce a new technique of treating tibial spinal fractures in children under arthroscope, and to assess its clinical outcomes. Methods From February 2001 to July 2003, 6 child patients with tibial spinal fracture were treated arthroscopically. The reduction and fixation were completed under the arthroscope. The wire was linked with the suture outside the joint, and then was pulled into the joint to fix the fracture fragment through the fundus of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). Results The patients were followed up for 6 to 20 months. All the fractures healed without displacement 4 weeks after operation. 3 months postoperatively, the motion range of the knee returned to normal, and no knee instability was observed. The results of ADT (anterior drawer test) and Lachmanns sign were negative. Conclusion This technique is the first choice in treatment of tibial spinal fracture in children, because it facilitates the diagnosis and treatment of complicated knee problems and provides accurate reduction and reliable fixation. Besides, it is minimally invasive, simple and convenient.
