Journal of Xi'an Jiaotong University(Medical Sciences) 1982;0(04):-
Concentrations of TSH in the serum of 47 iron-deficiency children and urinary excretion of 17-KS in 24-hour samples from 64 iron deficiency children were investigated before and after treatment, and compared with that of the normal control group. It was showed that serum concentrations of TSH and 17-KS excretion in iron-deficiency children were abnomally higher than in the nomal control subjects, and they were before treatment than after. After treating, they returned to control levels. It is concluded that iron rather than anemia play a role in the disturbance of TSH and corticoid metabolism of the iron-deficiency children.

Objective To analyze the risk factors related to obesity of preschool children. Methods The physical activity and eating behavior of 120 obese children aged 1~6 years were investigated with questionnaire by case control 1:1 matched. Results Obesity group spent significantly longer time to watch TV than control group, but the time for physical activity, feeding pattern during the first 4 months, the time of initial supplementary foods and the sleeping duration were not different between both groups. Conditioned logistic regression of multi-variables showed that good appetite, fast eating, overeating of carbohydrate and meat , and snacks before breakfast were the risk factors of child obesity. Conclusion The bad eating behaviors and the lack of physical activity were related to obesity in preschool children.

Objective To construct a finite element analytical model of multiloop edgewise arch wire(MEAW),and study its mechanical characteristics. Methods Three-dimensional(3D) model of dentition-bracket-arch wire was set up in an initial graphics exchange specification(IGES) format complex by Pro/E software. The multiloop edgewise arch wire was spliced on the lower dentition. After dividing the arch wire and brackets with quarter-tetrahedron element method, the model was analyzed by ANSYS(an engineering simulation software). Results The finite element analytical model of multiloop edgewise arch wire was successfully built up.Based on the model, when multiloop edgewise arch wire was subjected to a heavy strength in certain parts(such as tooth 3,4),the anti-force strength on the other brackets(such as tooth 1,2,5,6,7) was not so heavy. The subjected strength was light and soft, especially on the first molar. Conclusion The results suggest that the finite element analytical model of multiloop edgewise arch wire built up in the experiment may be used to study the integrated mechanical characteristics, reveal the orthodontic specialty, and discuss the orthodontic mechanisms of multiloop edgewise arch wire techniques.

Objective To study the effect of arsenic trioxide (As_2O_3) on the expression of Fas/FasL and in inducing apoptosis of gastric tumor cells in nude mice. Methods The xenograft model was established in 30 male BALB/C-nu/nu mice. The mice were randomly divided into 3 groups and injected intraperitoneally with As_2O_3 (2.5mg/kg or 5mg/kg) or with saline solution of the same volume respectively. Tumor growth was detected by measuring tumor volume. Apoptosis of the tumor cells was measured with transmission electron microscope (TEM) and TdT-mediated dUTP nick end labeling (TUNEL). The expression of Fas/FasL in the tumor cells was detected with immunohistochemistry. Results Tumor volume in As_2O_3-treated groups was smaller than that in control group (P<0.05). Apoptotic cells in the As_2O_3-treated groups significantly outnumbered than those in control group (P<0.01). The expression of Fas in tumor cells was higher in the As_2O_3-treated groups than in control group (P<0.05), but FasL expression of tumor cells did not differ between the treated groups and control group (P>0.05). Conclusion As_2O_3 can obviously inhibit the growth of human gastric tumor. One of the mechanisms is up-regulation of Fas gene that can induce the apoptosis of gastric cells.

Objective:To observe the clinical efficacy of electroacupuncture in the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus combined with mild and moderate carpal tunnel syndrome. Methods:Eighty patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus combined with mild to moderate carpal tunnel syndrome were randomly divided into two groups with 40 patients in each group ( n=40). In the course of the treatment, 2 patients in each group dropped out, which means 38 patients in each group were included. All patients were instructed to actively control blood glucose The control group was given Mecobalamin tablets orally, while the treatment group was given electroacupuncture of Daling and Neiguan on the affected side based onthe control group for 6 weeks. The degree of pain was assessed by VAS, and the severity of clinical symptoms was assessed by the symptom scale of Boston carpal tunnel questionnaire (BCTQ). The sensory nerve conduction velocity (SCV), the amplitude of sensory nerve action potential (SNAP) and the distal motor latency (DML) were detected by EMG evoked potential instrument. The clinical efficacy was evaluated and adverse events were recorded. Results:The total effective rate was 81.6% (31/38) in the treatment group and 60.5% (23/38) in the control group, and the difference was statistically significant ( χ2=5.094, P=0.024). After the treatment, the scores of VAS and BCTQ in the treatment group were lower than those of the control group ( t=2.639, 2.790, P=0.010, 0.007); DML (3.62 ± 0.19 ms vs. 4.00 ± 0.17 ms, t=68.891) in the treatment group was lower than that of the control group ( P<0.01), while SCV (47.36 ± 0.18 m/s vs. 42.34 ± 0.14 m/s, t=97.163) and SNAP (14.74 ± 0.18 μV vs. 12.10 ± 0.16 μV, t=51.434) in the treatment group were higher than those of the control group ( P<0.01). During the treatment, no serious adverse events occurred in two groups. Conclusions:Electroacupuncture is safe and effective in the treatment of mild and moderate carpal tunnel syndrome with type 2 diabetes. It can reduce the degree of pain and improve the symptoms of wrist joint.

Objective To study the effects of endoplasmic reticulum stress on liver damage in young rats fed with high-fat diet. Methods We divided 48 male weaned young rats randomly into high-fat diet group and control group, which were separately fed with high-fat diet and normal diet. After feeding 8,12 and 1 6 weeks, the body weight and visceral fat of the rats were measured. The serum liver function was measured. The morphology of livers was observed by HE and transmission electron microscopy. The mRNA expressions of ATF6 and GRP78 in hepatocytes were measured with RT-PCR.Results ① The body weight and visceral fat weight of rats in high-fat diet group increased compared with those in control group (P <0.05).② Alanine aminotransferase and aspartate aminotransferase in high-fat diet group increased slightly over time (P >0.05);alanine aminotransferase at week 1 6 was increased significantly compared with that in controls (P < 0.05 ).③ Liver cells in high-fat diet group had steatosis at week 8 and the steatosis became more serious between week 12 and week 1 6.④ In high-fat diet group at week 8 there were a large number of lipid droplets in the cytoplasm, and the cell structure was close to that of normal cells;rough endoplasmic reticulum was nearly normal and the ribosome was visible. At week 12 and week 1 6,besides a large number of lipid droplets,we could also see that some substances with line-like structure deposited in rough endoplasmic reticulum pool.⑤ The expressions of ATF6 and GRP78 mRNA in hepatocytes in high-fat group at weeks 8, 12 and 1 6 were significantly increased compared with those in control group (P <0.05). Conclusion High-fat diet in infants can cause visceral fat accumulation, fatty degeneration of hepatocytes and liver injury.ATF6-mediated endoplasmic reticulum may be closely related to the liver injury which results from highfat diet.

The quality and function of the donor liver is one of the main factors which influence the success and prognosis of liver transplantation. At present, the major source of donor liver for transplantation is Donor of Brain Death (DBD) all over the world, which has unstable circulation. When the brain death occurs,a series of serious physiological function changes will be induced within a few minutes and affect the hemodynamics and homeostasis of the body, which will greatly influence the liver quality and function, and consequently the success and prognosis of liver transplantation, finally leading to the loss of potential donor organs. Therefore,it is necessary to identify the physiological function changes induced by the process of brain death and its injury to liver and take immediate proper protective measures, which can effectively reduce the organ injury, improve liver function and enhance the organ utilization and liver transplantation success. In this paper, the changes and maintenance measures of liver physiological function in DBD will be reviewed.

Journal of Xi'an Jiaotong University(Medical Sciences) 1981;0(02):-
Objective To compare Western blot analysis and immunofluorescence method in Survivin expression. Methods By using Western blot analysis and immunofluorescence method, Survivin gene expressions of the peripheral blood mononuclear cells in 18 patients with leukemia and 10 healthy persons were analysed. Results Positive expression of Survivin gene was detected in 13 of 18 leukemic patients by Western blot analysis and in 11 of 18 leukemic patients by immunofluorescence method. Negative expression of Survivin gene was detected in 10 healthy persons. The results of Survivin expression were the same in 16 patients by Western blots analysis and immunofluorescence method (consistent rate is 88.89%), but the positive expression of Survivin by Western blot analysis was the negative expression by immunofluorescence method in another 2 patients. Conclusion Survivin gene expressed selectively in leukemic cells, but not in normal mononuclear cell in peripheral blood. It indicated that Survivin expression is effective monitoring index in diagnosis and prognosis of leukemia. Survivin expression by Western blot analysis was consistent with immunofluorescence method.
