High density lipoprotein cholesterol ( HDL-C) has received extensive attention because of its cardiovascular protective effects.Recent studies showed that HDL could promote reverse cholesterol transport ( RCT ) , be anti-inflammatory and antioxidant, and induce angiogenesis. Apolipoptrotein A-I (apoA-I), the most abundant protein of HDL, plays a pivotal role in the HDL mediated-functional activities.Short peptides based on the amphiphilic alpha helix structure of apoA-I have been designed and aimed at imitating the function of apoA-I.The function and metabolism of these mimetic peptides depend on their amino acids component and sequence , and have been proved to exert protection in against cardiovascular disease , infection, inflammation and oxidative damage, metabolic syndrome and tumor.Clinical trials confirmed their benefits, but high cost put them out of the practical applications..

Journal of Clinical Otorhinolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery 2009;(16):728-730
Objective:To evaluate the vestibular function of motion sickness. Method:VNG, which tests the vestibular function of horizontal semicircular canal, and CPT, which tests vestibulospinal reflex and judge proprio-ceptive,visual and vestibular status, were performed in 30 motion sickness pations and 20 healthy volunteers(control group). Graybiel score was recorded at the same time. Result:Two groups' Graybiel score (12. 67±11. 78 vs 2. 10±6. 23;rank test P<0. 05),caloric test labyrinth value [(19. 02±8. 59)°/s vs (13. 58±5. 25)°/s ;t test P< 0. 05],caloric test labyrinth value of three patients in motion sickness group exceeded 75°/s. In computerized pos-tourgrphy testing(CPT) , motion sickness patients were central type(66. 7%) and disperse type(23.3%);all of contral group were central type. There was statistical significance in two groups' CTP area, and motion sickness group was obviously higher than control group. While stimulating vestibulum in CPT, there was abnormality (35%-50%)in motion sickness group and none in contral group. Generally evaluating CPT,there was only 2 pro-prioceptive hypofunction,3 visual hypofunction, and no vestibular hypofunction, but none hypofunction in contral group. Conclusions Motion sickness patients have high vestibular susceptible, some with vestibular hyperfunction. In posturography,a large number of motion sickness patients are central type but no vestibular hypofunction, but it is hard to keep balance when stimulating vestibulum.

Objective To assess the influence of pre-exposure to non-ablating ultrasound on the effect of high intensity focused ultrasound(HIFU)ablation. Methods Forty rabbits with transplanted VX2 tumors on their livers were divided into three pre-exposure groups(60 W,80 W and 100 W)and a control group(O W),with 10 rabbits in each group. Each group was pre-exposed to lower intensity focused ultrasound at the corresponding power. From each group,5 rabbits were randomly selected to be exposed to HIFU on the next day. Each group received 14scans.The rabbits were sacrificed 24 h later to take tissue samples for tfipheny tetrazolium chloride(TTC)staining to measure the amount of coagulative necrosis.Hematoxylin and eosin(HE)staining and succinate dehydrogenase (SDH)were also measured to observe the structure and activation of pre-exposed tumors. Results After HIFU exposure, the ablated volumes increased with pre-exposure acoustic intensity, and all volumes were larger than those in the control group. The ablating efficiency in the 100 W group was the highest. The pre-exposure did not itself ablate tumor tissue, but in the 80 W and 100 W groups the structure and activation of the tissues changed. Those in the 60 W group were not obviously altered. Conclusion Prior exposure to non-ablating ultrasound can highly enhance the efficacy of HIFU ablation.

Objective To investigate the effect of midazolam on inflammatory response in patients with moderate and severe craniocerebral injury and its protective effect on the brain and mechanism. Methods A prospective study was conducted. One hundred and twenty patients with moderate and severe craniocerebral injury admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Jiangsu Subei Peoples' Hospital from April 2013 to July 2016 were enrolled, and they were divided into a conventional treatment group (58 cases) and a midazolam group (62 cases) according to the random number table method. Both groups were given conventional western medicine treatment, and in cases with surgical indications, operations were performed;in midazolam group, additionally intravenous injection of midazolam 2-3 mg was given firstly, and then continuous intravenous infusion of the drug 0.05-0.10 mg· kg-1· h-1 was applied by a pump, and in operative patients, the above management was given 3 hours after operation. The mean arterial pressure (MAP),heart rate (HR),Riker sedation agitation score (SAS) and electroencephalogram bispectral index (BIS) were measured before and after treatment for 24,48 and 72 hours, respectively. The levels of interleukin-6 (IL-6) and soluble nerve chemotactic protein (sFkn) in plasm and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) were measured by double antibody sandwich enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) at each time point;the incidence of epilepsy and 28-day mortality were recorded. Results Before and after treatment, the MAP and HR in the two groups of patients were stable, the difference being not statistically significant (both P > 0.05).Compared with those before treatment, after treatment the SAS score and BIS in two groups of patients were gradually decreased, and at 72 hours reached the lowest levels (SAS score:conventional treatment group was 3.8 ± 1.0 vs.5.7 ± 2.0,midazolam group was 3.6 ± 0.9 vs.5.8 ± 1.7;BIS:conventional treatment group was 69± 12 vs.82± 12,midazolam group was 72± 15 vs.82± 12,all P < 0.05),but there were no significant differences between the two groups (all P > 0.05),suggesting that the two groups had achieved the desired goal of sedation.ELISA results showed:compared with those before treatment, after treatment for 24 hours, the CSF IL-6,sFkn and plasm sFkn levels were temporarily increased in short term, and then showed a tendency of gradually decreasing, and the plasm IL-6 presented persistently descending in the conventional treatment group, while in the midazolam group, since 24 hours after treatment, each index showed a trend of decrease and continued to 72 hours. After treatment at each time point, the CSF and plasm levels of IL-6 and sFkn were significantly lower in midazolam group than those of the conventional treatment group, and reached to the minimal levels at 72 hours [CSF:IL-6 (ng/L) was 251.6 ± 145.7 vs.347.3 ± 146.4,sFkn (ng/L):289.7 ± 79.3 vs.423.6 ± 132.8;plasm:IL-6 (ng/L) was 54.4± 27.3 vs.85.6 ± 41.8,SFkn (ng/L):919.9±426.3 vs.1 199.4 ± 414.8,all P < 0.05].The incidence of epilepsy in the midazolam group was obviously lower than that in the conventional treatment group [1.61% (1/62) vs.10.34% (6/58),P < 0.05],but there was no significant difference between midazolam group and the conventional treatment group in the 28-day mortality [11.29% (7/62) vs.10.34% (6/58),P > 0.05].Conclusion Midazolam can reduce the incidence of epilepsy in patients with moderate and severe traumatic brain injury, and its brain protective effect may be related to the decrease of CSF and plasm IL-6 and sFkn levels.

Parenteral & Enteral Nutrition 1997;0(02):-
Objectives:To study the methionine dependence (Met-dependence) of human primary gastric cancer cells in vitro when Met in the culture medicine was replaced by its precussor homocysteine(Hcy). Methods:Fresh and sterile gaotric cancer samples and normal gastric mucosa were managed into single-cell suspension and were cultured in the Met -Hcy + and Met\++ Hcy\+- medium separately.proliferation of these cells in the two different culture media was examined by cell counter and flow cytometry (FCM). Results:In the Met\++Hcy\+- medium, the growth of primary gastric cancer cells was inhibited, manifesting that the percentage of G 0G 1 tumor cells decreased and that of the S phase increased signiflcantly. However, normal gastric mucosal cells grew well and their cell cycles had no change. Conclusions:Human primary gastric cancer cells are Met dependent in vitro whereas normal gastric mucosal cells have no similar results.
