Previous studies have proved that the effect of statins in both primary and secondary prevention of ischemic stroke, however, whether acute ischemic stroke needs to be treated with statins and the effect of statins pretreatment on acute ischemic stroke remain unclear. This article reviews the recent representative studies in this field, and analyzes the effects of the application of statins in the treatment of acute ischemic stroke on prognosis.

Objective:To explore the relationship between Feng syndrome(风证) and plasma endothelin(ET)in initial condition of acutely ischemic stroke.Methods:Using the table of syndrome quantitative diagnosis which formulated according to experiences of apoplectic experts to grade the fraction of syndrome which appears in initial condition of 151 cases with acute cerebral infarction，at the same time the level of plasma ET was determined by radioimmunoassay(RIA),and then according to the fraction of syndrome patients were divided into two groups,one is Feng syndrome group,the other is nonFeng syndrome group，the levels of plasma ET in this two groups and with healthy subject were compared.Results:It showed that the level of plasma ET in Feng group was significantly higher than that in nonFeng group（P<0.001）；and the same result between the patients and the healthy subjects（all P<0.001） were obtained.Conclusions:The results demonstrate that there is a correlated relationship between Feng syndrome and plasma ET,and the level of plasma ET can be regarded as a microcosmic indices to separate Feng syndrome from nonFeng syndrome.

Background The primary pathological basis of diabetic retinopathy (DR) is new blood formation due to anoxia and inflammation,which results in breakdown of blood-retinal barrier (BRB).Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is a key factor promoting neovascularization.Researches determined that lycium barbarum polysaccharides (LBP) can protect cells against oxidative damage.However,the study of LBP in ophthalmology is lack.Objective This study was to investigate the effects of LBP on the dynamic pathological change of retinal vessels and expression of VEGF in retina of diabetic rats.Methods One hundred and seventeen SPF male SD rats were randomly divided into the normal control group,the diabetic mellitus (DM) group and the LBP group according to random number table.Type 1 DM models were induced by intraperitoneal injection of streptozotocin (STZ,55 mg/kg) in the rats of the DM group and the LBP group,and then 250 mg/kg LBP was intragastically administered in the rats of the LBP group.The morphological change of retinal vessels was dynamically observed by retinal stretched preparation with Evans blue (EB) in 4,10 and 16 weeks after modeling.E B (45 mg/kg) was slowly injection via jugular vein,and 1％ polyoxymethylene was infused into the left ventricule.The eyeballs were extracted and retina were isolated.EB content in the retinas (mg/g) was calculated using retinal stretched preparation method at the time points mentioned above.Expressions of VEGF protein and mRNA in the retinas were detected by immunohistochemistry and real-time quantitative PCR at various time points,respectively.Results Retinal stretched preparation with EB exhibited that the abnormal degree in the shape,diameter of vessels and leakage of the retinal blood vessels were significantly slighter in the LBP group than those of the DM group in 4,10,16 weeks after modeling.At 4,10,16 weeks,EB content in the retinas was (12.17±1.55),(16.46±1.60) and (19.55±1.49) mg/g,which was significantly lower than (15.76± 1.90),(21.61 ±2.05) and (26.30±2.28) mg/g of the DM group (P＜0.05).Immunochemistry showed that the expression of VEGF protein primarily located at retinal ganglion cells (RGCs) layer.The staining intensity for VEGF protein was weaker in the LBP group than that of the DM group.The expression levels of VEGF protein (A value) in the LBP group were 0.234±0.011,0.331±0.023 and 0.536±0.031at various time points,with significant decline in comparison with 0.281±0.018,0.533±0.055 and 0.765±0.075 of the DM group (all at P＜0.05).Real-time quantitative PCR revealed that the expression levels of VEGF mRNA were 0.157±0.013,0.505 ±0.114 and 1.577±0.074 in the LBP group at various time points,which were significantly lower than 0.235±0.209,1.043±0.084 and 2.446±0.061 of the DM group (all at P＜0.05).Conclusions LBP can alleviate the DM-induced retinal vasculopathy,lessen the leakage of vessels well,and further protect the BRB.

Objective To evaluate the safety and clinical effect of homemad Costant coronary stent implantation.Methods The immediate and two-year follow-up results of Costant coronary stent implantation in severe coronary heart disease(CHD)patients were retrospectively analyzedin the General Hospital of Shenyang Command of PLA and the Guanzhou People's Hospital from Mar.2001 to Aug.2003.Results Implantation of 86 homemad Costant coronary stents was successfully performed in 71 severe CHD patients although 3 main adverse cardiac events(MACE)occurred during hospitalization(2 patients died and 1 patient had sub-acute in-stent thrombosis).Follow-up was made in 63 patients for(21.5?4.4)months on an average and 4 patients died.Repeat coronary angiogram in 21 patients showed that in-stent restenosis for Costant stent existed in 4 patients and in-stent restenosis in other types of stent was found in 3 patients and in-stent restenosis in all stents was found in 1 patient who died of shock and neo-coronary lesions was found in 5 patients.Costant stent restenosis rate was 7.9%(5/63);MACE rate was only 12.7%(8/63)during follow-up.Conclusion Homemad Costant coronary stent can be safely implanted in severe CHD patients with ideal long-term outcomes.

Objective To establish a method for determination of 7 preservatives, benzyl alechol, sorbic acid, benzoic acid, methyl-paraben, ethyl-paraben, propyl-paraben, butyl-paraben, in cosmetics in one time by gas chromatography. Methods The cosmetic sample was dissolved by methanol, extracted by ultrasonic and separated by packed column of DB1, the optimized experimental condition was explored also. Results The concentrations of 7 preservatives showed a positive correlation with the peak heights at the following ranges, 100-500 ?g/ml for benzyl alechol, 200-600 ?g/ml for sorbic acid, 25-500 ?g/ml for benzoic acid, methyl-paraben, ethyl-paraben, propyl-paraben and butyl-paraben, the correlative coefficients were 0.998 3-0.999 9. The detection limits were 5.5, 57.1, 29.6, 6.2, 5.5, 6.2, 6.2 ng/ml respectively. The recovery rates were 91.6%-102.7%. RSDs were 2.2%-10.2%. Conclusion The present method can perfectly separate the seven preservatives in cosmetics mentioned above with some advantages, such as simple, accurate, sensitive and quick.

Objective To investigarte the immune status in the patients with dengue fever .Methods The flow cytometry was used to detect the T lymphocytes in the patients with dengue fever for analyzing their immune status .Results Compared with the reference range in the healthy individuals ,it was found that the T lymphocyte proportion in the patients with dengue fever was sig‐nificantly reduced compared with the healthy individuals .The percentages of CD3+CD4+ and CD3+CD8+ lymphocytes were (36 .54 ± 9 .78)% and (17 .7 ± 10 .01)% respectively ,which had statistical difference compared with the control group(P<0 .05) ,CD3+CD4+ lymphocyte count was (49 .98 ± 240 .2)cells/μL ,the difference was statistically significant (P<0 .05) ,CD3+ CD8+ lympho‐cytes count was (380 .9 ± 364 .6)cells/μL ,the difference was statistically significant(P<0 .05) .Conclusion The immune status in the patients with dengue fever is abnormal ,T lymphocyte percentage is significantly reduced compared with the healthy individuals .

Objective To study ultrasound features of breast cancer before and after neoadjuvant chemotherapy,and its correlation with histopathology. Methods One hundred and nine patients with breast cancer underwent paclitaxel plus carboplatin neoadjuvant chemotherapy, the change of the primary lesions and axillary lymph nodes were studied by ultrasound,and compared with histopathology. Results Seventeen patients achieved complete remission under ultrasound, the rest measurable lesions became significantly shortened in maximum diameter [ ( 22.46 ± 11.50) mm vs (34. 71 ± 13.67) mm, P ＜ 0. 001 ], and showed decrease both in longitudinal-transverse ratio (0. 80 ± 0. 23 vs 0. 86 ± 0. 22, P ＞0. 05) and grades of blood flow (0. 51 ± 0.80 vs 1.23± 1.05, P ＜0. 001 ). 44. 83% (44/92) of metastatic axillary lymph nodes disapeared after treatment. Comparing with histopathology, the sensitivity and specificity of ultrasound assessing complete remission were 57. 89 % ( 11 / 19) and 93.33 % (84/90), respectively. The moderate concord between ultrasound with histopathology might be attributed to the pathologic change of breast tissue and stroma after treatment, nevertheless grades of blood flow might be more meaningful. Conclusions Ultrasound assessment of neoadjuvant chemotherapeutic response might be of reference value,and studying corresponding ultrasonic manifestation of different kinds of pathological changes would help with better evaluation.

Objective To retrospectively study the value of ultrasonography in diagnosing breast lymphoma and compare with mammography and MRI. Methods Imaging characteristics of 26 patients who were pathologically comfirmed as breast lymphoma were reviewed, including ultrasonography,mammography and MRI, and compare the diagnostic accuracy among the three. Results Twenty-four patients underwent ultrasonography and 32 lesions were found, with longest diameters averaged 30 mm.Tumors were mostly hypoechoic or very hypoechoic (81.3％), some were lobular (25.0％) or oval (21.9 ％ ) in shape, the margins were most frequently circumcribed (62. 5 ％ ), and a few tumors showed an echogenic boundary (18.8 ％ ). Color Doppler imaging showed hypervascularity in most tumors (59.4 ％ ).Ninteen patients undewent mammography, 15 solitary lesions were identified in 12 patients, asymmetric density in five,punctate calcification in one,and no abnormality in one. Eleven lesions were identified in MRI of 10 patients, 10 lesions showed hypointensity on T1-weighted images and hyperintensity on T2-weighted images, and heterogeneous enhancement after contrast. The diagnostic accuracy of ultrasonography,mammography and MRI was 83％, 52％ and 100％, respectively. Conclusions The sonograms of breast lymphoma have some distinct features, the combination of ultrasonography and MRI might benefit the diagnosis of breast lymphoma.

BACKGROUND: There are currently few studies regarding the pharmacokinetics of vancomycin via intravitreous injection.OBJECTIVE: To determine the concentration of vancomycin injected into the vitreous chamber of conscious rabbits.METHODS: A microdialysis probe was implanted into vitreous chamber of normal rabbit eyes and rabbit eyes infected withbacterial endophthalmitis for 24 hours, and 10 g/L vancomycin 0.1 mL was administered intravitreally. The drug concentration inthe vitreous chamber of rabbit eyes was determined at 0.5, 1, 2, 4, 6, 12, 24, 48, 72 and 84 hours after injection, through themicrodialysis and high performance liquid chromatogram-ultraviolet detection.RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: The metabolism of vancomycin showed an open two-compartment model in normal rabbit eyes.Its half-life was 51.66 hours and the peak concentration was 695.92 mg/L. The metabolism of vancomycin in the infected vitreouschamber showed a one-compartment model. Its half-life was 11.91 hours and the peak concentration was 713.35 mg/L. All rabbitswere injected with drugs for 84 hours and the intravitreous concentration of vancomycin was higher than minimal inhibitoryconcentration. The experimental findings indicate that microdialysis coupled to high performance liquid chromatography is apowerful tool to investigate the ocular pharmacokinetics of vancomycin, and the samples are harvested in a real-time, continuousand dynamic fashion when the experimental animals are conscious.
