?AlM: To study the correlation between monocular mild myopic juvenile myopia degree and dominant eye.
? METHODS: Totally 158 patients with juvenile monocularly mild myopia in our hospital from December 2012 to December 2013 were retrospectively analyzed, and cylindrical mirror astigmatism was used for spherical equivalent conversion. On the basis of the myopic degree, they were divided into three groups, 30 cases in group A (-0. 25~-0. 75D), 92 cases in B group (-1. 0~-2. 0D), 36 cases in group C (-2. 25 ~ -3. 0D). The card hole method was selected to measure dominant eye for subjectsat nearly 33cm and 5m. After glasses correction of ametropia, the far and near dominant eyes were received measurement again.
?RESULTS:The monocular mild myopia of dominant eye was compared with the non-dominant eye adjustment function, and there was no significant difference ( P>0. 05 ) . The dominant eye, non - dominant eye mean diopter and other correlations of eyes in the three groups were compared, and there was no significant difference (P>0. 05). The dominant eye of three groups at 5m was compared, and there was significant difference (P<0. 05). The dominant eye of three groups at 33cm was compared, and there was significant difference (P<0. 05). Dominant eye at different visual distance was compared, and there was significant difference (P<0. 05). Monocular uncorrected eye was compared with dominant eye mild afte myopia glassesr, and there was significant difference (P< 0. 05).
?CONCLUSlON: The formation of myopic anisometropia is related to the degree of clearly seeing objects, although glasses correction can improve the clarity and visual, but affect the choice of the dominant eye, because the myopic anisometropia appears most early in the dominant eye, therefore optician correction stage, which should be taken into consideration, and avoid the severity of the adolescent myopia.

To perform a systemic review and meta-analysis of the diagnostic accuracy of PET (CT) and metaiodobenzylguanidine (MIBG) for diagnosing neuroblastoma (NB),electronic databases were searched as well as relevant references and conference proceedings.The diagnostic accuracy of MIBG and PET (CT) was calculated for NB,primary NB,and relapse/metastasis of NB based on their sensitivity,specificity,and area under the summary receiver operating characteristic curve (AUSROC) in terms of per-lesion and per-patient data.A total of 40 eligible studies comprising 1134 patients with 939 NB lesions were considered for the meta-analysis.For the staging of NB,the per-lesion AUSROC value of MIBG was lower than that of PET (CT) [0.8064±0.0414 vs.0.9366±0.0166 (P＜0.05)].The per-patient AUSROC value of MIBG and PET (CT) for the diagnosis of NB was 0.8771±0.0230 and 0.6851±0.2111,respectively.The summary sensitivity for MIBG and PET (CT) was 0.79 and 0.89,respectively.The summary specificity for MIBG and PET (CT) was 0.84 and 0.71,respectively.PET (CT) showed higher per-lesion accuracy than MIBG and might be the preferred modality for the staging of NB.On the other hand,MIBG has a comparable diagnosing performance with PET (CT) in per-patient analysis but shows a better specificity.

OBJECTIVETo study the expressions of p35 and p25 and Cdk5 kinase activity in cultured rats hippocampal neurons following X-ray exposure to provide experimental evidence for prevention and treatment of radiation encephalopathy.

METHODSThe hippocampal neurons cultured for 12 days were subjected to a single-dose X-ray exposure of 30 Gy. Western blotting was used to detect the p35 and p25 protein levels, and the effect of pretreatment with roscovitine, a Cdk5 inhibitor, on the apoptosis of the hippocampal neurons following the exposure was examined with 4',6-diamidino-2-phenylindole (DAPI) staining.

RESULTSThe protein level of p35 increased significantly 3.5 and 4 h after the irradiation by 1.51-/+0.13 and 1.45-/+0.14 folds in comparison with the control level, respectively (P<0.01), and the p25 level increased significantly 6 h after irradiation by 1.62-/+0.28 folds (P<0.05). Nuclear condensation occurred in (24.8-/+3.97)% of the neurons 24 h after 30 Gy X-ray exposure, a rate significantly higher than that in the nonexposed cells [(1.82-/+1.08)%, P<0.01) and that in roscovitine-pretreated neurons [(7.74-/+2.27)%, P<0.01).

CONCLUSIONX-ray exposure activates Cdk5 by increasing the p35 and p25 expressions in rat hippocampal neurons, and inhibition of Cdk5 activity with roscovitine can significantly protect the neurons from apoptosis.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the protective effects of oxymatrine on chronic heart failure induced by isoproterenol (ISO) and to observe its effects on ADMA metabolism pathway in ISO-induced chronic heart failure in rats.

METHODMale Sprague-Dawley rats were given oxymatrine (100,50 mg kg-1) orally for 14 days. Heart failure was induced in rats by subcutaneous injection of isoproterenol (5 mg kg-1 d-1 ) at the 8th day for 1 week. Serum parameters, haemodynamic parameters, Heart weight, and histopathological variables were analysed. Expression of protein levels were measured by Western blot.

RESULTOxymatrine (100,50 mg kg-1) significantly attenuated serum content of cTn I, improved left ventricle systolic and diastolic function and left ventricular remodeling, reduced the ISO-induced myocardial pathological changes compared with ISO group. In addition, oxymatrine (100,50 mg kg-1) significantly reduced serum level of ADMA (P <0. 01), normalize the reduced dimethylarginine dimethylaminohydrolase 2 (DDAH2) expression (P <0. 01) , but had no effect on the isoproterenol-induced upregulated protein arginine methyltransferases 1 expression.

CONCLUSIONOxymatrine could ameliorate the experimental ventricular remodeling in ISO-induced chronic heart failure in rats and the mechanism involved in reducing serum content of ADMA and increased DDAH2 expression.

Objective To explore the effect of benzidine test and related reagents on DNA analysis of bloodstain. Methods A total of 970 bloodstain filter paper samples with 1μL venous blood were collected, and 10 of them acted as control samples. After benzidine test and related reagent processing, DNA of 960 samples was extracted by Chelex-100 and silica bead methods and then multiplex amplified by AmpF(e)STRTM IdentifilerTM Plus PCR kits. The results of STR typing were compared between different groups. Results DNA were extracted immediately after benzidine test. Totally STR loci (3.80±1.34) were detected by silica bead method, while no STR loci were obtained by Chelex-100 method. Thirteen sam-ples (21.7％) with whole STR typing results were obtained by drying after benzidine test, and the STR locus number (12.90±1.49) which obtained by silica bead method was much higher than by Chelex-100 method (4.70±1.96) (P<0.05). When DNA was extracted immediately after the addition of glacial acetic acid, the STR locus number was (9.40±2.09) by silica bead method, but no STR typing result was obtained by Chelex-100 method. All 15 STR loci could be obtained by only adding glacial acetic acid after drying and only adding tetramethylbenzidine alcoholization liquid or 3％ hydrogen peroxide liquid. Conclusion Benzidine test has significant influence on DNA analysis of bloodstain. The Chelex-100 method is not suitable for the DNA extraction of bloodstain after benzidine test. Drying after benzidine test and silica bead methods can effectively enhance the STR locus number of bloodstain.

OBJECTIVETo observe the polyamines metabolism changes in rat cardiomyocytes underwent ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury.

METHODSA branch of the descending left coronary artery was occluded to induce rat myocardial I/R injury (30 min ischemia followed by 2 h, 6 h, 12 h, and 24 h reperfusion). RT-PCR and Western blot were performed to detect the expression of spermidine/spermine N1-acetyltransferase (SSAT) and ornithine decarboxylase (ODC), the concentrations of polyamines were measured with high performance liquid chromatography in hearts with or without I/R.

RESULTSThe myocardial transcription and expression of SSAT and ODC were significantly upregulated. Compared with the sham group, ODC mRNA and SSAT mRNA respectively increased 3.1 fold and 3.8 fold and their proteins respectively increased 3.1 fold and 2.9 fold at 24 h of reperfusion (P < 0.01); the concentrations of spermidine, spermine and the total polyamine pool respectively decreased by 33.6%, 35.3% and 32.9% while putrescine concentration increased by 58.9% at 24 h of reperfusion (P < 0.01).

CONCLUSIONOur results suggest that ischemia-reperfusion in the heart may affect polyamine metabolism and the disturbance of polyamine metabolism might thus play a critical role in myocardial I/R injury in this model.

OBJECTIVEThe purpose of this study is to get to know the intervention services implementation status of prevention of mother to child transmission (PMTCT) of HIV/AIDS in China, and the trend of recent five years.

METHODSWe carried out relevant surveys and investigations among the areas where PMTCT work had been implemented during January 2005 to December 2009. Health providers in these fields provided routine maternal health care, HIV counseling and test for 10 360 655 pregnant women and comprehensive intervention measures to 10 123 HIV infected pregnant women which included antiretroviral (ARV) drugs usage, safety delivery, and exclusive breastfeeding, and collected relevant data and materials to analysis the ratio of main interventions and its change trend.

RESULTSThe HIV/AIDS counseling rate was increasing year by year (χ(2)(trend) = 3184.5, P < 0.001), during 2005 to 2009 the rate was 69.8% (406 151/581 975), 84.5% (1 346 745/1 594 579), 90.3% (1 582 757/1 753 191), 93.7% (1 926 224/2 055 232), 82.3% (3 599 228/4 375 678) respectively. HIV/AIDS test rate was increasing (χ(2)(trend) = 146 194.7, P < 0.001), the rate from 2005 to 2009 was 57.8% (336 459/581 975), 80.8% (1 287 812/1 594 579), 87.0% (1 524 595/1 753 191), 89.2% (1 833 246/2 055 232), 85.5% (3 741 337/4 375 678)respectively. The total number of HIV/AIDS infected maternities was 10 123 during 2005-2009, 6156 of them delivered, the general usage rate of ARVs was 71.0% (4373/6156), and increasing to 75.3% (1554/2065) by the end of 2009, the rates of 2005 to 2008 were 64.6% (362/560), 66.9% (623/931), 66.7% (857/1284), 74.2% (977/1316) respectively. The difference was significant (χ(2)(trend) = 47.6, P < 0.001). The proportion of using ARVs during pregnant period was 58.5% (2557/4373). The proportion of using ARVs among born infants of HIV infected maternities was 83.4% (4999/5994), and increasing yearly, 77.2% (409/530) of 2005, 80.1% (720/899) of 2006, 83.8% (1053/1257) of 2007, 89.4% (1116/1249) of 2008, 82.6% (1701/2059) of 2009, the difference was significant (χ(2)(trend) = 13.0, P < 0.001). The general rate of exclusive breastfeeding was 92.9% (5276/5681) and the rate of HIV test in 18 months was 74.6% (2482/3324).

CONCLUSIONThe rate of HIV/AIDS counseling and test of general maternities is increasing and the proportion of mainly intervention measures have been increased year by year.

OBJECTIVETo compare clinical outcome and quality of life of subtotal colectomy with antiperistaltic cecoproctostomy and total colectomy with ileorectal anastomosis (TAC-IRA) in patients with severe slow transit constipation (STC).

METHODSOf the 56 patients enrolled in this study from January 1999 to June 2008, 32 cases underwent subtotal colectomy with antiperistaltic cecoproctostomy, and 20 patients underwent TAC-IRA. The patients' clinical characteristics, operative data, postoperative outcome, functional result and gastrointestinal quality of life index (GIQLI) survey were compared between the two groups.

RESULTSAll patients were followed up for 1-7 years (median, 4 years). The basic clinical characteristics between the two groups was comparable. During the follow-up period, the number of daily bowel movements in the subtotal colectomy group was significantly fewer than that in TAC-IRA group (2.5+/-0.8 vs. 3.4+/-0.8; P=0.000). The Wexner continence score was significantly lower in subtotal colectomy group (4.4+/-1.6 vs. 5.8+/-1.9; P=0.011), and the GIQLI score in subtotal colectomy group was significantly higher than that in the TAC-IRA group (120.7+/-7.5 vs. 111.1+/-12.0; P=0.005).

CONCLUSIONSubtotal colectomy with antiperistaltic cecoproctostomy appeared to be the superior treatment than the TAC-IRA for selected patients with slow transit constipation for improved functional outcomes and quality of life.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the application of serum glutathione S-transferase (GST) and urinary 8-hydroxy-2-deoxyguanosine (8-OHdG) as the monitoring biomarkers for coke oven workers exposed to polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs).

METHODS47 male coke oven workers and 31 male control workers were investigated. Urinary 8-OHdG and serum GST were analyzed using high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with electrochemical detection and test kit. Urinary 1-hydroxypyrene (1-OHP) as internal exposure of PAHs was also determined simultaneously by alkaline hydrolysis and HPLC.

RESULTSThe values of urinary 1-OHP, serum GST and urinary 8-OHdG were reported as median with interquartile range (P(25)-P(75)). Urinary 1-OHP [5.7 (1.4-12.0) micromol/mol Cr], serum GST [22.1 (14.9-31.2) U/ml], and urinary 8-OHdG [1.9 (1.4-15.4) micromol/mol Cr] in coke oven workers were significantly higher than in control workers [3.0 (0.5-6.4) micromol/mol Cr (P < 0.05), 13.1 (9.5-16.7) U/ml (P < 0.01), and 1.3 (1.0-4.0) micromol/mol Cr (P < 0.05) respectively]. Categorizing by smoking status, significant differences in urinary 1-OHP and serum GST were found only in smokers among coke oven workers compared to control workers (P < 0.01), and 8-OHdG levels only in non-smokers (P < 0.01). Additionally, there was significant correlation between urinary 1-OHP and serum GST activity (r(s) = 0.31, P < 0.01, n = 78). The multiple logistic regression analysis showed that coke oven workers were at the higher risk of having GST activities above 16.7 U/ml (OR = 13.2) and 8-OHdG levels above 1.8 micromol/mol creatinine (OR = 4.4). High body mass index was an independent factor to affect urinary 8-OHdG levels.

CONCLUSIONSThe elevated serum GST activities and increased oxidative DNA damage were found in the coke oven workers. Occupational exposure and smoking interact on each other. Serum GST may be used as a biomarker for assessing the exposure of PAHs. Assay of urinary 8-OHdG may be useful for evaluating the risk of lung cancer in coke oven workers.

OBJECTIVETo determine the prevalence of Streptococcus suis and major pathogenic serotypes in middle part of Jiangsu province.

METHODSTonsillar specimens from 303 slaughtered pigs aged 6 to 8 months were investigated for the presence of Streptococcus suis and major pathogenic serotypes by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) method. Bacteriological examination compared with molecular genetics identification for three Streptococcus suis isolates were also done.

RESULTSThe overall carrier rate of Streptococcus suis was up to 88.0%, with the percentages of serotype 1(14), 2(1/2), 7 and 9 were 9.6%, 8.5%, 11.3% and 29.5% respectively in 2005. While in 2006, the prevalence of Streptococcus suis was 82.5%, with capsular types 1 (14), 2 (1/2), 7 and 9 were accounted for 17.6%, 2.4%, 25.8% and 20.0% of all the specimens. All the three isolates belonged to Streptococcus suis serotype 2,named 2a, 2f and 14e, which exhibiting the virulent phenotype cps2+/gdh+/mrp-/lepf-/sly-/fbps+/orf2+/89k-, cps2+/lgdh+/mrp-/epf-/sly-/fbps-/orf2-/89k- and cps2+/gdh+/mrp-/epf-/sly-/fbps/orf2-/ respectively. These isolates were all susceptible to amoxicillin, ampicillin, penicillin and resistant to amikacin and tetraycline. Clinical signs were not noted in BALB/c mice and rabbit.

CONCLUSIONPrevalence of the Streptococcus suis among the healthy herds in the areas was very high, with various capsule types of Streptococcus suis involved in the same herds, and the virulent phenotype of these 3 isolates were very different from those prevalent Streptococcus suis serotype 2 virulent isolates frequently discovered from the epidemic areas.
