1.Impact of cerebral vascular diseases on elderly intellectual status: A neuropsychological study
Chinese Journal of Rehabilitation Theory and Practice 2003;9(7):429-430
ObjectiveTo study the impact of stroke on elderly's mental status.Methods71 elderly inpatients aged between 60 to 90 who suffered stroke(31 cases) or not(40 cases) were assessed the mental status as a whole, the evaluation of comprehension of linguistic information, and non-verbal reasoning abilities using Mini Mental State Examination(MMSE), Token Test and Raven Test. The relationships between these cognitive aspects and stroke was also analysed.ResultsThere were 68% of elderly suffering dementia symptoms in stroke group which was much higher than Non-stroke group (15%).The correlation between MMSE and Token is more close than the correlation between MMSE and Raven in stroke group. The correlations among MMSE, Token and Raven were significant different between stroke and Non-stroke groups. There is a positive correlation coefficient between age and Token scores in dementing patients; whereas a closer relationship between age, education level and Raven in Non-stroke group was found. This implied the impacts of stroke on the time-course of mental degeneration. Conclusions stroke can interrupt normal mental structure and speed up the process of degeneration of cognitive functions. Semantic dysfunction might manifestation earlier than non-linguistic functions. Token is more sensitive than Raven in detecting dementia symptoms of stroke type.

Objective To study the correlation between prognosis and vertigo and status of the vestibule functions with the patients of the sudden deafness (SD).Methods For 161 patients of the SD, the parameters of the hearing before treatment, vertigo and vestibule functions, were analyzed to establish a statistic model by means of Logistic regression with single factor analysis of variance, Logistic regression analysis and Chi square test. Results The single factor analysis of variance and Chi square revealed statistical differences between prognosis of the SD and hearing before treatment(P0.05).Conclusion If the patients with SD had more severe hearing loss, the prognosis would be less successful. The normal or abnormal caloric tests had influence for the prognosis of the SD, but vertigo showed influence on prognosis only when caloric test was abnormal. The degree of hearing loss was not related to that of vertigo or vestibule functions while the sudden deafness accompanied with vertigo was not due to the damage of vestibular functions.

The image guided radio therapy (IGRT) Imaging System based on cone-beam computer tomography (CBCT) can reach the goal of improving the accuracy of the radiotherapy. However, because the clinical registration between CBCT images and Planning CT images is carried out manually, it inevitably reduces radiation positioning accuracy to some extent. To tackle the problem, we proposed a new feature vector selection method for the CBCT image elastic registration in the framework of hierarchical attribute matching mechanism for elastic registration (HAMMER) algorithm. We analyzed the characteristics of HAMMER algorithm and used Canny operator which has a better edge detection and positioning performance to replace the noise-sensitive gradient amplitude. Therefore, we used a new attribute vector, which consisted of the intensity, Laplacian of the Gaussian and Canny operator, to ex tract the image feature points in CBCT and planning CT images. We also presented an adaptive feature-point selection method and the choice criteria of attribute vector weights. Experimental results showed that the new feature vector effectively avoided the noise interference resulted from scattering lines in CBCT images to improve registration accuracy, and it also decreased the required feature point numbers and reduced the computation redundancy, so that it provided a new approach for the clinical elastic registration of CBCT and Planning CT rapidly and accurately.

Background The potential protective effect of ischemia postconditiomng for hypoxia has been determined in many tissues and organs. But its mechanism in retina is still lack. Objective The aim of this study was to investigate the protective effect of ischemia postconditioning on retinal ischemia reperfusion injury. Methods Thirty-six health male Wistar rats were randomized into the normal control group, sham group, ischemia reperfusion group and ischemic postconditioning group.Retinal ischemia reperfusion models were induced by elevating the intraocular pressure to 110 mmHg for 60 minutes, and then the ischemic postconditioning was performed right away,1 minute and 10 minutes after ischemia in the rats of the ischemic postconditioning Ⅰ,Ⅱ,Ⅲ group, respectively.Electroretinogram (ERG) was recorded in the rats 7 days after operation, and the rats were sacrificed by excessive anesthesia.Retinal specimens were prepared for the histopathological examination. The retinal thickness and the recovery rates of ERG a,b waves and oscillation potentials (OPs) were compared among the groups using ANOVA of SPSS software. Results One day after experiment, the structure of rat retinas was nearly normal. However, retinal edema and vacuolar degeneration were seen in the rats of the ischemia reperfusion group and ischemic postconditioning Ⅰ,Ⅱ,Ⅲ groups primarily in the inner plexiform layer (IPL),inner nuclear layer (INL).The retinal thickness values of the entire layer,IPL and INL were significantly higher in the ischemia reperfusion group and ischemic postconditioning Ⅰ,Ⅱ,Ⅲ groups compared with the normal control group (all at P<0.05).Seven days after experiment, the retinas were thinner in the rats of the ischemia reperfusion group than those of the rats in the sham group, but the retinal thickness values in the ischemic postconditioning Ⅰ,Ⅱ,Ⅲ groups were significantly increased in comparison with the ischemia reperfusion group (all at P<0.05).In addition, the recovery rates of ERG a,b,OPs amplitudes were significantly lower in the ischemia reperfusion group and ischemic postconditioning Ⅰ,Ⅱ,Ⅲ groups compared with the normal control group (all at P<0.05).However,the recovery rates of ERG a,b,OPs amplitudes evidently elevated in the ischemic postconditioning Ⅰ,Ⅱ,Ⅲ groups in comparison with the ischemia reperfusion group (all at P<0.05).Conclusions Ischemia postconditioning can protect the structure and function of retina from ischemia reperfusion injury.Ischemia postconditioning plays the maximal effect immediately to 1 minute after ischemia reperfusion injury in Wistar rat.

OBJECTIVE: To explore the mechanism of Sanqi Qiancao Recipe (SQR) in treating metrorrhagia caused by copper intrauterine device (IUD) in rabbits and to provide experimental evidence for preventing and treating this disease. METHODS: Fifty-six rabbits were randomly divided into seven groups, which were normal control group, sham-operation group, untreated group, indomethacin-treated group, low-dose SQR-treated group, medium-dose SQR-treated group and high-dose SQR-treated group. Copper IUD insertion was operated in rabbits of the last five groups. Rabbits in the last four groups were treated orally with indomethacin and low-, medium- and high-dose SQR respectively for a week. Rabbits in the untreated group, normal control group and sham-operation group were given distilled water orally. Hematocrit, blood viscosity at low, medium and high shear rate, plasma viscosity and blood sedimentation were examined after treatment. RESULTS: The hematocrit, blood viscosity at low, medium and high shear rate and plasma viscosity were higher in the untreated group than those in the normal control group with significant differences (P<0.01) while those indexes in low-, medium- and high-dose SQR-treated groups were significantly lower than those in the untreated group (P<0.05 or P<0.01). CONCLUSION: SQR can lead to a decrease in blood viscosity and improve the blood flow, which may be one of the mechanisms of SQR in treating metrorrhagia after copper IUD insertion.

Journal of Preventive Medicine 2023;35(11):921-925
Objective :
To examine the association between dietary patterns during pregnancy and gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), so as to provide the evidence for guiding the establishment of healthy and balanced dietary patterns and reducing the prevalence of GDM.
Methods:
Pregnant women who underwent oral glucose tolerance tests in Hangzhou Obstetrics and Gynecological Hospital from 2020 to 2021 were enrolled, and their demographic information were collected using questionnaires. Pregnant women's diets during the past three months were collected using Food Frequency Questionnaires (FFQs), and dietary patterns were extracted using principal component analysis. In addition, the association between dietary patterns and risk of GDM was examined using a multivariable logistic regression model.
Results:
A total of 1 689 pregnant women were included, with a median age of 28.53 (interquartile range, 2.47) years and a median gestational age of 26.00 (interquartile range, 2.00) weeks. Five dietary patterns were identified according to pregnant women's types of diets, including meat-based diets, dessert-fruit-refined grain diets, plant-based diets, eggs-milk-nut diets and whole-grain diets, with a cumulative contribution rate of 58.76%. The prevalence of GDM was 24.57% (415 cases) among the study subjects. Multivariable logistic regression analysis showed that pregnant women with scores in the highest quartile (Q4) of the meat-based diets had an increased risk of GDM (OR=1.372, 95%CI: 1.043-2.055) relative to those with scores in the lowest quartile (Q1), and pregnant women with Q4 scores of the dessert-fruit-refined grain diets had an increased risk of GDM (OR=1.743, 95%CI: 1.397-2.432) relative to those with Q1 scores, while pregnant women with Q4 scores of the plant-based diets had a reduced risk of GDM (OR=0.382, 95%CI: 0.346-0.613) relative to those with Q1 scores.
Conclusion
A plant-based dietary pattern may reduce the risk of GDM, while meat-based and dessert-fruit-refined grain dietary patterns may increase the risk of GDM.
