Objective To observe the effect of acute retrograde gastric electrical stimulation (RGES) on gastric accommodation, emptying and gastrointestinal hormones releasing in obese patients. Methods Sixteen obese patients were examined. On the first day,a pair of mucosal gastric electrodes was placed under endoscope. The liquid meal load test and the standard solid meal gastric emptying test were carried out on the second day. RGES was performed starting at 30 minutes before each test and through the whole testing process. The serum leptin, ghrelin, resistin and peptide YY were examined before and after the standard solid meal gastric emptying test. On the third day, sham stimulation was given. The effect of acute RGES on related index was compared by self-control.Results BMI of the 16 patients was (32. 90±2. 99) kg/m2. Acute RGES significantly reduced the liquid meal volume of fullness [(460±148) ml and (630±219) ml,t=-7. 200,P<0. 01] and the maximal tolerable meal volume [(699±215) ml and (926±295) ml,t=- 5. 390,P<0. 01]. The effects of RGES and sham RGES on half-emptying time of standard solid meal was (109±26) min and (103±31) min (t=1. 009,P= 0. 329);on the retention rate of standard solid meal at one hour and two hour was (63. 37±9. 75)% and (59. 73±12.87)% (t=1. 834,P= 0. 087),(42.22±13.97)%and (38. 33±16. 87)% (t= 1.780,P= 0. 095),respectively. The ratio of gastrointestinal hormones after and before the stimulation also of the sham stimulation, leptin was 1. 03±0. 34 and 1. 08±0. 38(t=-0.386,P=0. 705),ghrelin was 0. 99±0. 11 and 0. 98±0. 12 (t= 0. 413,P=0.685),resistin was 1. 11±0. 25 and 0. 99±0. 24 (t= 1. 753,P= 0. 100),and peptide YY was 1. 56±0. 71 and 1. 33±0. 61 (t=1. 402,P= 0. 181). Conclusions In obese patients, acute RGES significantly reduce the liquid meal volume by lower gastric accommodation,to certain extent which will delay gastric emptying. There is no significant influence on gastrointestinal hormones releasing.

Journal of Geriatric Cardiology 2009;6(2):79-81
Objective To investigate the cause of high cardiovascular lethality in patients with diabetics mellitus. Methods Sections from autopsied coronary arteries and myocardium of dead patients with non-insulin-dependent diabetics mellitus and 12 dead control subjects were used for histomorphometric studies. Results The coronary atherosclerotic lesion in diabetics patients was not different in severity from those in controls. Nor was there difference in number of myofibers or diameters of myocardic fibers and capillaries. But the capillary density and the ratio of capillary number to myocardic fiber number in diabetics group were significeantly reduced compared with control group(P<0.0 l),and the capillary basement membrane in the former was significantly thicker than in the latter(P<0.01).Conclision The decrease in number of capillaries and the thickening of basement membrane enhance myocardiac vulnerability to further ischemia and hypoxia, which may undelie high lethality of myocardiopathy in diabetic patients.

Objective To study the expression of gonadotropin releasing hormone receptor (GnRH receptor) in the stomach of Sprague-Dawley rat exposed to light stress. Methods We established illumination stressed models that the rats were exposed to continuous light(totally 64 rats, 32 rats for experiment and control group, respectively). Then, stomachs were taken from the rats when the rats exposed to continuous light for 1 day, 2 days, 3 days, 4 days, 1 week, 2 weeks, 3 weeks, 4 weeks and their control groups, respectively. The localization and the expression of GnRHR and GnRHR mRNA in stomachs mucous membrane were detected using immunohistochemistry, Western blotting and real-time PCR. Results Immunoreactivity was displayed mostly in the parietal cells in gastric gland. There were not differences of this distribution in all groups of constant illumination and their control. The immunoreactive materials were distributed on membrane and in cytoplasm of all positive cells, but not in nuclei. The level of GnRHR in rats exposed to continuous illumination were higher from one week to four weeks compared with that in control(P<0.05), and the level of GnRHR reached the peak when rats were exposed to constant illumination for two weeks (P<0.01). The quantity of GnRH mRNA in rats exposed to continuous illumination were higher from three weeks to four weeks compared with that in control(P<0.05). Conclusion The expression of GnRHR in digestive tract was effected by illumination stress.GnRH might regulate digestive function by interaction with GnRHR, suggesting that GnRH may be acted as a hormone, not only responded to normal physiological function of digestive tract but also responded to stress activity.

This paper elaborated the research progress on transduction mechanisms of obese polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and insulin resistance (IR). The action mechanisms of kidney-tonifying, spleen-invigorating and phlegm-resolving in the treatment of obese PCOS and IR were explored. It provided new ideas for the treatment of obese PCOS patients in the clinical practice of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) gynecology. Literatures on TCM theories and modern signal pathways were used in the analysis of spleen-kidney deficiency and phlegm-dampness retention, which were the key pathogenesis of obese PCOS and IR. The scientific nature of treating obese PCOS and IR from the method of kidney-tonifying, spleen-invigorating and phlegm-resolving was demonstrated. The results showed that the scientific nature of treating obese PCOS and IR from the method of kidney-tonifying, spleen-invigorating and phlegm-resolving was initially demonstrated by the organic combination of TCM and modern medicine theories. It innovatively proposed that the treatment study strategy of transduction molecular mechanism took the interactive dialogue between PI-3K/Akt signal pathway and TNF-α signal pathway as its target. The regulatory role and action mechanism of this method in the treatment of obese PCOS and IR were discussed.

Journal of Preventive Medicine 2021;33(7):649-655
Objective:
To analyze the influencing factors for the 20-69-year-old residents in Anhui Province with substandard physiques, so as to provide a basis for improving the physiques of population.
Methods :
The 2014 physical fitness survey data of residents aged 20-69 years in Anhui Province were collected, including demographic information, physical exercise status and physical indicators ( height, weight, vital capacity, blood pressure and so on ). The physiques of residents was rated according to the "National Fitness Standards" ( 2003 edition ) . The multivariate logistic regression model was used to analyze the influencing factors for substandard physiques in different age groups.
Results:
Among 39 803 residents recruited, 5 081 were rated as substandard physiques and the rate was 12.77%. The rates of substandard physiques in the residents aged 20-<40, 40-<60 and 60-69 years were 11.08%, 13.11% and 16.74%, respectively. The results of multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that age, gender, household registration, education level, occupation and time spent each exercise were the influencing factors for substandard physiques among the residents aged 20-<40 years ( P<0.05 ); age, household registration, education level, occupation and physical exercise were the influencing factors for substandard physiques among the residents aged 40-<60 years ( P<0.05 ); age, gender, education level, occupation, physical exercise and time spent each exercise were the influencing factors for substandard physiques among the residents aged 60-69 years ( P<0.05 ).
Conclusions
The residents aged 20-69 years in Anhui Province have higher rate of substandard physiques in the 2014 survey. Age, education level, occupation and physical exercise may affect physical fitness and vary in different age groups, thus interventions should be carried out according to age.
