Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) is one of the most common pathogens in human and it is closely related to gastrointestinal diseases. It is essential for us to understand the transmission process of H. pylori to prevent its spreading. The oral cavity has been proposed as a reservoir for gastric H. pylori, which has been detected by culture and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) in both dental plaque and saliva. Some researchers have proposed H. pylori in oral cavity may play an important role in its transmission and reinfection. Oral-oral or fecal-oral transmission are thought to be the most possible transmit way. This review will discuss the evidence for the role of the oral cavity in the transmission of H. pylori, the difficulties encountered in addressing this topic and possible directions for future research. Oral H. pylori may also play a role in the diagnosis and prevention of deceases related to H. pylori such as gastritis, gastric ulcer and gastric carcinoma. The recent progresses in this area are also reviewed. Moreover, we also discussed the relationship between oral H. pylori and oral deceases like periodontal disease and oral ulcer.

Objective To study the relationship between diabetic retinopathy(DR) and Landsteiner-Wiener,Indian blood group genes. Methods Peripheral blood samples were collected from 50 DR patients, and 160 unrelated volunteer blood donors(the control).CDNA,including LW gene generated by reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR),was subjected to sequence analysis, and the genomic DNAs,extracted from each sample, were sequenced directly for LW gene and IN gene.Woolf method was used for calculating relative risk(RR).Results In the 160 control samples, there was A at the nt380 locus in Exon1 of the LW gene, which were genotyped as LWa;and there was G at the nt252 locus in Exon2 of the IN gene, which were genotyped as INb.All the 53 samples from DR patients were LWa homozygous genotypes and all INb homozygous genotypes. Conclusion These two candidate genes are not associated with the incidence of DR.

Objective To investigate the residual risks of transfusion-transmitted HBV/HCV/HIV in current donor screening system of Qingdao area. Methods After the ELISA tests(HbsAg,anti-HCV,anti-HIV) were performed,NAT tests of HBV-DNA,HCV-RNA,and HIV-RNA on plasma samples were conducted.Such specimens as have discrepant ELISA and NAT results(N+/E-,or N-/E+) were subject to further follow-up confirmation tests. Results Among 12000 donor samples,no sample with anti-HCV(-)/HCV-RNA(+) or with anti-HIV(-)/HIV-RNA(+) was detected.However,2 individuals were detected as HBsAg(-)/HBV-DNA(+).One donor had negative ELISA test results in HBsAb,HBeAg,HBeAb,and HBcAb at the first screening. But the HBsAg,HBeAg and HBcAb were confirmed positive along with HBV-DNA after 11 weeks. The other donor was negative for HBsAb,HBeAg,and HBeAb but positive for HBcAb.Follow up tests after 3 weeks indicated the same serological results, with a similar low viralload at about 1000 IU/mL.Conclusion Due to the window period and occult HBV infection, current blood donor screening system has some residual risks of transfusion-transmitted HBV.NAT and HBcAb tests should be implemented to reduce the residual risks of transfusion-transmitted HBV.

Chinese Journal of General Practitioners 2009;8(5):342-343
Eighty six patients with influenza-like diseases were randomly assigned to trial group (n=42,oseltamivir 75 mg,twice daily for 2 days)and control group(n=44,osehamivir 75 mg,twice daily for 5 days). The results showed that there Was no statistical difierence in the duration of fever between trial groups[(56±14)h]and control group[(54±13)h,P=0.623],the cost of the trial group[(193±38)yuan]Was 189 yuan less than that in the control group[(382±61)yuan,P=0.016].It is suggested that the efficacy of two-day course of oseltamivir is the same as that of five-day course in tlle treatment for influenza-like diseases, but with lower cost.

Objective To observe the effects of Jieyu-Chufan capsule(JCC) on the behavior and the monoamine neurotransmitter content of cerebral in depression mouse model and explore its mechanism. Methods The ICR male mouse were randomly divided into seven groups according to their weights(the model group, the low, middle and high doses group, Baiyoujie group, the amitriptyline group, the normal control group). The low, middle and high doses group were given JCC with 1.250, 2.500, 5.000 g/kg separately by intragastric administration. Baiyoujie group was given 0.014 g/kg Baiyoujie by gavage. The amitriptyline group was given 0.050 g/kg amitriptyline by gavage. The model group and the normal control group received the same volume of distilled water intragastrically. The drugs were administrated once a day. The brepharoptosis and movement conditions of mouse were observed after 22 days. The monoamine neurotransmitter content of each group was measured after 25 days. Results Compared to the model group, the number of mouse with brepharoptosis decreased in the high dose group after 1, 2, 6 hour with reserpine injection (P<0.05 or P<0.01);the number of mouse came out from the circle increased after 4 hours with reserpine injection (P<0.05 or P<0.01);the content of NA (880.45 ± 428.81 ng/g, 875.98 ± 449.33 ng/g vs. 299.92 ± 267.08 ng/g) and DA (2 305.99 ± 530.37 ng/g, 2 169.99 ± 278.19 ng/g vs. 1 439.34 ± 357.33 ng/g) in the middle and high dose group increased (P<0.01);the content of 5-HT (781.43 ± 135.10 ng/g vs. 492.01 ± 192.80 ng/g) in the middle group increased (P<0.01). Conclusions JCC showed an antidepression influence in depression mouse model induced by reserpine. The mechanism may be related to regulating the level of monoamine neurotransmitter in the nervous centralis .
