7.Sites of action of propofol and isoflurane on somatosensory pathway
Chinese Journal of Anesthesiology 1994;0(03):-
Objective To determine the sites of action of propofol and isoflurane on somatosensory pathway using median nerve somatosensory evoked potential(MnSSEP) .Methods Twenty-six ASA I - II patients aged 20-50 yrs were randomly divided into two groups: I propofol group( n = 13) and H isoflurane group( n = 13) .In propofol group patients received propofol infusion at a rate of 10 mg?kg-1?h-1 .Oxygen was administered via mask and respiration was assisted or controlled to maintain SpO2 at 96%-100% and PETCO2 at 35-45 mm Hg. The propofol infusion was continued until the patient failed to respond to verbal command. Six minutes later if the patient was still breathing spontaneously, the rate of propofol infusion was increased to 20-40 mg?kg-1?h-1 . In isoflurane group anesthesia was induced with propofol 2 mg ? kg-1 and intubation was facilitated by succinylcholine and anesthesia was maintained with isoflurane inhalation and intermittent iv boluses of vecuronium. The end-tidal isoflurane concentration was maintained at 0.5,1.0 and 1.5 MAC. Each concentration was maintained for 15 minutes. MAP, HR, SpO2,PCTCO2, T0(naso-pharyngeal) and BIS were continuously monitored. MnSSEP( Viking IV D type) was measured and recorded before induction of anesthesia(baseline) and in propofol group when patients became unconscious and apneic; in isoflurane group when end-tidal isoflurane reached 0.5,1.0 and 1.5 MAC.Results In group I there was no change in both latencies and amplitudes of N9 and N13'.With increasing infusion rate, propofol gradually prolonged the latencies and decreased the amplitudes of N60, P45, N35, N20 and P25 waves. In isoflurane group there was no change in the latencies and amplitudes of N9. There was no change in the latencies of N13', but the amplitudes decreased at 1.0 and 1.5 MAC. With increasing concentration, isoflurane gradually prolonged the latencies and decreased the amplitudes of P45, N60, N35, N20 and P25 waves. At 1.5 MAC the inter-peak latencies between N13'-N20 and N13'-P25 were prolonged. Conclusions The sites of action of different infusion rates of propofol and different concentrations of isoflurane are different on somatosensory pathway. The higher the doses, more widespread are the sites of action.
8.Tensor Feature Extraction Using Multi-linear Principal Component Analysis for Brain Computer Interface.
Journal of Biomedical Engineering 2015;32(3):526-530
The brain computer interface (BCI) can be used to control external devices directly through electroencephalogram (EEG) information. A multi-linear principal component analysis (MPCA) framework was used for the limitations of tensor form of multichannel EEG signals processing based on traditional principal component analysis (PCA) and two-dimensional principal component analysis (2DPCA). Based on MPCA, we used the projection of tensor-matrix to achieve the goal of dimensionality reduction and features exaction. Then we used the Fisher linear classifier to classify the features. Furthermore, we used this novel method on the BCI competition II dataset 4 and BCI competition N dataset 3 in the experiment. The second-order tensor representation of time-space EEG data and the third-order tensor representation of time-space-frequency BEG data were used. The best results that were superior to those from other dimensionality reduction methods were obtained by much debugging on parameter P and testQ. For two-order tensor, the highest accuracy rates could be achieved as 81.0% and 40.1%, and for three-order tensor, the highest accuracy rates were 76.0% and 43.5%, respectively.

9.The effect of rhEPO on the expression of Bcl-2 and Caspase-3 in intestinal tract of newborn rats with necrotizing enterocolitis
Journal of Clinical Pediatrics 2015;(2):179-183
Objectives To investigate the effect of rhEPO on newborn rats with necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC). Meth-ods Sixty newborn Sprague-Dewley (SD) rats at the age of 48 hours were randomly divided into 5 groups:control group, NEC group, and intervention groups 1, 2 and 3 treated with rhEPO. The rats were fed rat breast milk substitutes and stressed under hypoxia and cold exposure to establish NEC model. The rats with NEC were treated with different doses of rhEPO (0.1U/ml, 1U/ml and 10U/ml) in intervention groups. The expression of Bcl-2 and caspase-3 were measured by immunohistochemistry, and intestinal pathological changes were observed using HE staining. The value of positive expression was analyzed by IOD (integral optical density) image analysis system. Results Abdominal distention, decreased activity and unresponsiveness occurred in NEC rats 24 hours after stress exposure, and pale skin, decreased skin temperature and respiratory rhythm change were observed in severe cases. The symptoms appeared later and milder in three intervention groups. The NEC incidence of newborn rats was as followings:control group(0%), model group(60%), intervention group 1( 30%), intervention group 2(18.2%), intervention group 3(9.1%) and the difference was signiifcant between each group (P=0.008). The grades of intestinal injury, the expression of active caspase-3 and Bcl-2 were signiifcantly different among groups (P<0.01). Intestinal injury was the most severe and the expression level of active caspase-3 was the highest in NEC group. After rhEPO treatment, the intestinal injury and the production of active caspase-3 protein were decreased, and the expression of Bcl-2 was increased. Conclusions Oral rhEPO could decrease the ex-pression of intestinal active caspase 3, and increase the expression of Bcl-2. The protective effect of rhEPO on NEC is dosede-pendent.
