International Journal of Pediatrics 2012;(6):639-641
Objective To explore the clinical characteristics and treatment of methylmalonic acidemia(MMA) in order to improve our understanding of it.Methods We analyzed the clinical manifestations, laboratory examinations and treatments of 26 cases of methylmalonic acidemia in children. Results Twenty-four cases were involved in nervous system.Nine patients were involved in renal system.Eight cases of hematological involved.Liver enzyme elevated in 2 cases as well as the cardiac system were involved in 3 cases. One case was with pneumonia onset. The laboratory findings showed metabolic acidosis in 12 cases, hyperhomocysteinemia in 8 cases and remarkable elevation of urinary methylmalonic acid concentration in all cases. Some abnormalities in globus pallidus and cerebral white matter as well as diffuse cerebral atrophy were noted by the brain CT and MRI in 15 cases.Sixteen children have received therapy of vitamin B12,and supplementation of L-carnitine with restricted-protein diet. The follow-up for a period ranging from 3 months to 1.5 years( mean 8.5 months) of 15 cases with medical therapy showed a favorable outcome of nervous system improvement in 12 cases,however,2 patients died from severe metabolic acidosis.8 patients with renal involvement were normal in urine routine and renal function. Conclusion Methylmalonic acidemia has different clinical features,so early urine organic acids analysis by GC/MS method is essential Long-term and reasonable treatment after diagnosis is an effective way to improve the prognosis.
3.Effects of recombinant human erythropoietin on the expression of glutamine synthetase of cultured retinal Müller cells under high glucose condition
Chinese Journal of Ocular Fundus Diseases 2013;29(5):514-517
Objective To investigate the effect of recombinant human erythropoietin (rhEPO) on the expression of glutamine synthetase (GS) of cultured rat retinal Müller cells in high glucose environment in vitro. Methods Mtüller cells were isolated from retinas of 10 Sprague-Dawley rats at postnatal day three to five by trypsin digestion, and were randomly divided into six groups, including normal control group, high glucose group, high glucose +5 U/ml rhEPO group, high glucose+ 10 U/ml rhEPO group, high glucose+ 20 U/ml rhEPO group, high glucose+40 U/ml rhEPO groups. After 48 hours, the apoptosis of retinal Müller cells were assayed by terminal transferase-mediated DNA end labelling assay, and the expression levels of GS protein were detected with semi-quantitative immunocytochemistry. Results Compared with the normal control group, the cell viability and GS protein were reduced while the cell death increased in Müller cells cultured in high glucose, the difference was statistically significant (t =27.4,P < 0.01).Compared with the high glucose group,rhEPO treatment reduced the apoptotic Müller cells (t=857.2,2 374.6,2 473.2,2 537.7; P<0.01),induced the expression of GS proteins (t=3.2,18.0,22.5,26.4; P<0.05).Conclusions rhEPO can protect Müller cells from apoptosis under high glucose condition. The mechanism may be related to its function to up-regulate the GS protein expression, promote glutamic acid cycle, and reduce the excitotoxicity effects of high concentration of glutamate.
4.Microtubule-destabilizing protein stathmin—a new target for gene therapy of cancer
China Oncology 1998;0(01):-
Stathmin is a novel member of microtubule-destabilizing proteins that play a critical role in the regulation of the dynamic equilibrium of microtubules during different phases of the cell cycle. The overexpression of stathmin was found in different type of cancer.Inhibition of stathmin expression in malignant cells may interfere with their orderly progression through the cell cycle.Overexpression of stathmin can affect the action of antimicrotuble drugs by markedly decreasing binding of paclitaxel, and increasing binding of Vinca alkaloids. In addition, stathmin provides an attractive molecular target for cancer therapy. It may be possible to combine adenovirus-mediated anti-stathmin ribozyme therapy with a chemotherapeutic agent such as taxol to obtain a more potent antiproliferative and antitumor effect.
5.THE ENERGY COST AND TOTAL ENERGY EXPENDITURE PER DAY OF COLLEGE STUDENTS
Acta Nutrimenta Sinica 1956;0(02):-
The energy cost of the daily major activities, the basal metabolic rates (BMR), resting metabolic rates (RMR) and total energy expenditure of university students per day under normal conditions were determined respectively by Douglas' method. The average BMR of male and female subjects were 2.80?0.14 and 2.74?0.13 kJ.m-2min-1. (0.669 and 0.656 kcal?m~2?min-1) respectively. The total energy expenditure per day of male students was 11.32 MJ, and of female students 9.92 MJ per day. The energy cost of different activity can be used as the basic data in studies of energy metabolism.

8.Qualitative research of the opinions of clinical nurses to current nursing quality evaluation
Modern Clinical Nursing 2013;(1):7-9,10
Objective To study the views of clinical nursing staff about current nursing quality evaluation so as to find the problems in nursing quality evaluation.Method 25 head nurses and nurses were interviewed using semi-structured open interview about nursing quality evaluation.Result The current nursing quality evaluation system was lower in sensitivity, focusing more on nursing skills but less on nursing evaluation of nursing specialties. Conclusions The system of current nursing quality evaluation lacks of nursing evaluation of nursing specialties and therefore cannot meet the requirements for the development of nursing specialty. Therefore,it is urgent to regulate an evaluation system for nursing specialties.
9.Experience of professor XU Run-san in treating chronic pelvic pain with tonifying method
China Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Pharmacy 2005;0(12):-
Chronic pelvic pain is a common symptom of gynecological diseases, traditional Chinese medicine treatment is a important method in treating chronic pelvic pain without operation indication.According to his clinical experience of more than sixty years, famous gynecological professor XU Run-san suggested that deficient syndrome of chronic pelvic pain possesses a definite proportion in clinic;most of chronic repeated pelvic pain of long course has the pathogenesis of qi,yang deficiency, stagnation of blood circulation and deficiency complicated with blood stasis. The etiology of chronic pelvic pain is complicated, according to the TCM theory of "treating different diseases with the same method",tonifying method such as nourishing qi and raising yang, warming spleen and stomach, nourishing qi and activating blood, warming meridian and resolving stasis can be used for syndrome of qi,yang deficiency.Treatment with tonifying decoctions such as buzhongyiqi decoction, huangqijianzhong decoction based on syndrome differentiation is the key to improve the curative effect.
10.Bimolecular Fluorescence Complementation Assay:Application in The Study of Protein-protein Interaction
Progress in Biochemistry and Biophysics 2006;0(06):-
Bimolecular fluorescence complementation (BiFC) assay is an innovative approach to investigate protein interactions, based on the reassembly of protein fragments of the fluorescent proteins which directly report interactions. The fluorescent proteins tolerate circular permutation and insertions of foreign proteins with maintenance of fluorescence. So when the proteins fused to the reporter fragments interact with each other, a direct readout of the association would be given from the facilitating reassembly of the active reporter protein. Moreover, with distinct spectra difference of the fluorescent protein family members, BiFC assay is expanded to multicolor BiFC assay which enables visualization of interactions between different proteins in the same cell and comparison of the efficiencies of complex formation with alternative interaction partners. From it first reported in Molecular Cell in 2002 till now, this approach has been used on the networks of protein interaction in mammal cells, plant cells or even E.coli, and researches on transcription factors, G protein ?? dimmers, protein ubiqutination and so on.
