PEG-modified magnetic Fe3O4 (Fe3O4-PEG) nanoparticles were sythesized using a solvothermal reaction and characterized with transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and thermo gravimetric analysis (TGA). The photothermal effect and photothermal destruction of cancer cells were evaluated. Then the doxorubicin loaded Fe3O4-PEG (DOX-Fe3O4-PEG) nanoparticles were prepared. The cytotoxicity and combined chemotherapy/photothermal therapy (PTT) effect were investigated. Uniform PEG coated Fe3O4 nanoparticles with particle size of 155 nm were obtained in the experiment. The loading and release of doxorubicin on Fe3O4-PEG were pH-dependent. The drug loading capacity in water was 21%. The results of MTT indicated a good biocompatiblity of Fe3O4-PEG nanoparticles and high cytotoxicity of DOX-Fe3O4-PEG. In combined therapy experiment, photothermal therapy demonstrated unambiguously enhanced chemotherapy efficacy. In conclusion, the obtained Fe3O4-PEG nanoparticles which exhibit good photothermal effect and drug loading capacity can be used for chemotherapy and photothermal therapy. The synergetic anti-tumor activity indicates the potential for the combined application of chemotherapy and photothermal therapy in cancer treatment.

As the transportation of O2 and CO2 inside human body is an integrated aspect of Qi-blood transportation, a hemodynamic model is established based on the analysis of the respiratory and circulation system. The results of such model show that the abnormality of the circulatory and respiratory parameters always lead to a reduction of Po2 (O2 pressure) in tissue fluid, and then a Lung Qi-Deficiency Syndrome (QDS). This model can be used to quantitatively explain, to some extent, the physiological phenomena of Lung QDS, and could combine all the discoveries of in clinical researches, on Lung QDS. The measurement of Po2 in tissue fluid as an index to analyze Lung QDS is in accordance with TCM and TMM (the theory of modern medicine). This model may provide a new approach in clinical research of Lung QDS.

Abstract: Stem cells, which are a type of primitive cells with multipotent differentiation potential and self-renewal ability, have the potential to regenerate various tissues and organs. Stem cell drug development is a frontier research field in life sciences. Extensive clinical trials involving stem cells have been conducted for different complicated diseases. Some stem cells have been approved as drugs for some indications, indicating their broad industrial prospects. This review introduces the progress of stem cell drugs around the world, especially in China, and discusses the main problems in the industrialization of stem cell drugs, such as their effectiveness, quality control and safety, so as to provide some reference and insight for the development and rapid industrialization of stem cell drugs.

Cardiac deficiency of qi(vital energy) is one of the main syndromes in terms of TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine). Based on our analysis of blood-tissue fluid circulation, we set up a hemodynamics model describing cardiac deficiency of qi. The model's theoretical results can reflect the manifestations of cardiac deficiency of qi, and are identical to those of clinical experimental discoveries, therefore it has substantiated our theory-cell's abnormal physiological function caused by undernourishment of tissue fluid is the reason of qi-deficiency.

Chinese Journal of Medical Education Research 2021;20(7):812-815
Objective:To explore the reform and practice of bone marrow puncture simulation teaching to improve the learning ability of undergraduates. Methods:In this study, 112 students in Shengjing Hospital Affiliated to China Medical University were selected and divided into experimental group and control group. The control group received routine bone marrow puncture teaching and training, and the experimental group received bone marrow puncture teaching and training mainly to improve the students' practical ability. Evaluation indicators were teaching effect and teaching satisfaction. SPSS 22.0 was conducted for chi-square test and t test. Results:The students in the experimental group were better than those in the control group in preoperative preparation, puncture site selection, operation methods, precautions and understanding of examiner's questions ( P < 0.001), and the students in the experimental group were more satisfied with course design, classroom interaction, increasing learning interest and improving the mastery of operation skills than those in the control group were ( P < 0.001). Conclusion:The role change of teachers and the simulation teaching of bone marrow puncture to improve the practical ability of undergraduates increases the students' enthusiasm for learning the operation of bone marrow puncture, improves the quality of teaching and the students' operation skills of bone marrow puncture, and promotes the comprehensive development of students, which is worthy of further promotion.

ObjectiveTo explore the effect of Weiwei Tongtiao decoction (WTD) on chronic atrophic gastritis (CAG) rats and the underlying mechanism. MethodA total of 90 SD rats were randomized into normal control group, model group, high-dose, medium-dose, and low-dose WTD groups (18, 9, 4.5 g·kg-1·d-1 WTD, respectively, ig), and weifuchun control group (0.45 g·kg-1·d-1 weifuchun aqueous solution, ig), with 15 rats in each group. The N-methyl-N'-nitro-N-nitrosoguanidine (MNNG) was employed to induced CAG in rats. After the modeling (identified by histopathological examination), the administration began and lasted 12 weeks. Then, gastric mucosa tissues of the rats were collected and stained with hematoxylin and eosin (HE), and the pathological changes of gastric mucosa were observed under the optical microscope. Real-time PCR, immunohistochemistry (IHC), and Western blotting were applied to examine the mRNA and protein expression of indexes in nuclear factor kappa-B (NF-κB) signaling pathway in the gastric mucosa of rats. ResultCAG rats showed irregular arrangement and morphology of the inherent glands in gastric mucosa and the glands decreased or disappeared. In addition, inflammatory cell infiltration was observed in the lamina propria of CAG rats, and about 48.4% presented intestinal metaplasia. WTD significantly alleviated the reduction of the glands and intestinal metaplasia in a dose-dependent manner. Compared with the normal control group, the model group demonstrated increase in the mRNA expression of cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), NF-κB p65, interleukin (IL)-1α, IL-1β, IL-10, IL-8α, and IL-8β, and protein expression of COX-2, NF-κB p65, and IL-10 (P<0.01). WTD and weifuchun lowered the mRNA expression of COX-2, NF-κB p65, IL-1α, IL-1β, IL-10, IL-8α, and IL-8β, and the protein expression of COX-2, NF-κB p65, and IL-10 in gastric mucosa of CAG rats (P<0.01). The expression of the above indexes after the intervention with high-dose WTD was close to that of the normal control group. ConclusionWTD can improve or even reverse the diseased gastric mucosa of CAG rats, and the mechanism is the likelihood that WTD down-regulates the mRNA and protein expression of the indexes in NF-κB signaling pathway in gastric mucosa of CAG rats.
