OBJECTIVE To investigate the effect of ischemic postcondioning on cochlea following cochlear ischemia-reperfusion injury in rats. METHODSForty two healthy male SD rats were randomly divided into 3 groups, namely, the sham operation control group, the ischemia reperfusion group and ischemic postcondinging group. There were 14 rats in each group. The content of molondialdehyde(MDA) as well as the activity of catalase(CAT)in cochlea was measured by histochemistry. The ultrastructural changes of stria vascularis capillaries of the cochlea in experimental rats were examined by transmission electron microscopy(TEM). RESULTS In the ischemia reperfusion group, the CAT activities were decreased and MDA concentrations were increased significantly compared with those in the control group. However, in the ischemic postcondinging group, the activities of CAT were increased and MDA concentrations were decreased compared with those in the ischemia reperfusion group. Moreover, lesions were detected in the stria vascularis capillaries in all the three groups. The capillaries of stria vascularis were injured severely in ischemia reperfusion group. In the ischemic postcondinging group, the damage of capillary of stria vascularis were reduced significantly compared with that in ischemia reperfusion group, the structures were near normal, and no obvious destruction was observed. COCLUSION Ischemic postconditioning may markedly reduce the excessive generation of oxygen free radical during the process of ischemia-reperfusion injury and might be a potential strategy for its therapy.

Objective By means of analyzing the antihypertensive use of hypertension patients of Guiyang in 2013 and impact factors for basic drug use,to evaluate the impacts of the essential medicines list in place in Guiyang to hypertension patients in communities in Guiyang. Methods 969 hypertension patients were surveyed with structured questionnaire of stratified random sampling at 6 community health centers in Guiyang city. Results Hypertension patients in communities averaged 1.4 types of antihypertensive, and the essential medicines used accounted for 39.8%of all the antihypertensive. The distribution differences of the ratio of essential medicines use are significant interms of age, gender, and household annual income.Use ratio of non-essential medicines of the 55~64 age group and 65~74 age group are 3.48 times and 0.47 times over that of the 75 and above age group. For hypertension patients of low income and medium income, their probable use of non-essential medicines is 2.05 and 2.87 times that of high income households. Conclusion As the use ratio of hypertension patients in Guiyang is relatively low,and the factors for it are age and household income, focused intervention is recommended for the 65~74 age group and low-income households, for the purpose of high use ratio of essential medicines of such people.

Objective To investigate the effect of catch-up growth on insulin resistance(IR) through analysis of biochemical and metabolic indices in premature infants. Methods There were 126 infants admitted in the Department of Neonatology, the Affiliated Hospital of Guiyang Medical College from December 2010 to December 2013 [factors which might affect the secretion of insulin(INS),C peptide and insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) were excluded].According to gestational age and birth weight, babies were divided into small for gestational age (SGA) group and appropriate for gestational age (AGA) group. And according to the age on follow-up,babies were divided into 1-to-6-month-old group,7-to-12-month-old group and ≥ 1-to-3 year-old group. All cases had 6 mL peripheral venous blood sampled in the early morning during fasting in the first week, and 6,12,24,36 months after birth. They were tested for levels of INS,C peptide,IGF-1,triglyceride (TC),total cholesterol (TG),high density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C),low density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C),fasting blood-glucose (FBG),albumin, prealbumin and creatinine respectively. At the same time, the physical parameters were measured, including weight, body length, and calculated insulin resistance index (IRI),Ponderal index, weight standard deviation score (SDS),and length SDS.Results (1) Catch-up growth after premature birth occupied 65.6% (63/96 cases),whereas no catch-up growth occupied 34.4% (33/96 cases) of study snbjects, and among them catch-up growth of 37 cases was better (8 cases of SGA,29 cases of AGA),26 cases showing catch-up growth(7 cases of SGA,19 cases of AGA),33 cases without catch-up growth(11 cases of SGA,22 cases of AGA).No statistical significance was found in the distribution of catch-up growth between SGA group and AGA group(P > 0.05).(2) The LgIRI,LgINS of group with good catch-up growth was significantly lower than the group with no catch-up growth group (F =3.55,3.47) in infancy, but the level of IGF-1 and prealbumin was higher than that of no catch-up growth group (F =3.55,4.94),the difference had statistical significance (P < 0.05) ; the better catch-up growth was associated with higher IGF-1 and prealbumin, but with lower LgIRI.(3) The risk factors for insulin resistance were SGA (OR =7.904,P =0.001),low birth weight < 1 500 g (OR=8.737,P=0.019),and no catch-up growth (OR=11.706,P=0.000).Conclusions The better catch-up growth in infancy is associated with higher IGF-1 and prealbumin, but lower IR.The risk factors of IR include SGA,low birth weight and no catch-up growth, and the last being the major factor.

OBJECTIVEThe aim of this study was to investigate the expression of collagen in the process of masseter muscle reattachment to the cortical and cancellous bones of mandible.
METHODSA total of nine adult goats were used in the study. One was the control. The other eight were treated with bilateral detachment of the masseter muscles. The biopsies of bone and muscle were taken at 2, 4, 8 and 12 weeks after the operation. The characteristics of the healing muscle-bone interfaces were examined using immunohistochemical techniques.
RESULTSImmunohistochemical analysis illustrated that the locations of collagen type I, II and III were different during the healing process, but similar in the cortical and cancellous bones.
CONCLUSIONThis study demonstrates that the distribution of the three types of collagens at the muscle-bone interfaces is associated with time, but not related with their locations.

Periodontitis is a complex chronic inflammatory disease. The invasion of pathogens induces the inflammatory microenvironment in periodontitis. Cell behavior changes in response to changes in the microenvironment, which in turn alters the local inflammatory microenvironment of the periodontium through factors secreted by cells. It has been confirmed that periodontal ligament stem cells (PDLSCs) are vital in the development of periodontal disease. Moreover, PDLSCs are the most effective cell type to be used for periodontium regeneration. This review focuses on changes in PDLSCs, their basic biological behavior, osteogenic differentiation, and drug effects caused by the inflammatory microenvironment, to provide a better understanding of the influence of these factors on periodontal tissue homeostasis. In addition, we discuss the underlying mechanism in detail behind the reciprocal responses of PDLSCs that affect the microenvironment.
