Objective To study the effects of dexamethasone (DEX), recombinant bone morphogenetic protein-2 (rhBMP2), and combined application of rhBMP2 and DEX on alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity of human dental pulp cells (HDPCs) in vitro. Methods HDPCs were cultured by tissue block method and identified. Effects of DEX, rhBMP2, and combined application of both on ALP activity of HDPCs were determined by a modified enzyme dynamical method. Results DEX could enhance ALP activity, reaching the peak value at the concentration of 0.01 nmol/ml. rhBMP2 could enhance ALP activity in a dose-dependent manner. ALP activity was significantly higher under the condition of combined application of DEX and rhBMP2 than single application of DEX or rhBMP2 only. Conclusion Both DEX and rhBMP2 can enhance ALP activity of HDPCs. However, combined application of DEX and rhBMP2 can greatly enhance ALP activity of HDPCs.

Objective To explore the role of team-based learning(TBL)in the teaching of pe-riodontics for undergraduates. Methods Totally 38 2008 grade undergraduates majored in stomatology were divided into six groups according to previous test scores. Individual test, group test and group re-sponder were conducted successively . Average test scores before and intra class were calculated and questionnaires survey was conducted after the course. Results There was no significant correlation be-tween average test scores intra class and basic knowledge and preview effect(r=0.028,P>0.05). Ques-tionnaire survey demonstrated that learning motivation, learning interests, knowledge mastering and com-munication ability of students were significantly improved. Conclusion TBL teaching promotes the class-room atmosphere and improves team collaboration and learning enthusiasm. Students show high accep-tance for this new teaching modes,so it can be tried in the teaching of stomatology.

Objective Observe the effect of Total paeony glycoside(TPG)has on the T-cell immune action and apoptosis process of Oral lichen planus patients and analyze the mechanism. Methods 20 OLP patients are recruited into this experiment, each is treated with TPG,and their clinical effect is taken notes of.Observe the apoptosis of OLP lesions from each of the patients before and after the treatment, compare the apoptosis condition and the expression of CD4 + ,CD8 + ,and the CD4 +/CD8 + ratio,to analyze the role TPG plays on the immune expression of T-cell and the effect on apoptosis process. Results TPG improve the clini-cal manifestation of OLP patients significantly, resulting in the decrease of reticulum and erosive areas, and the pain index is de-creased obviously. The expression of CD4 + and CD8 + are decreased in OLP lesions after the treatment of TPG.Conclusion TPG may induce the apoptosis of the T-cell in lamina propria of the OLP lesions to regulate the T-cell immune action of OLP patients, and slow the development of inflammatory process of OLP,and in that way,TPG shows its potential in treating OLP,and this ex-periment can provide the primary evidence.

Taenia pisiformis is one of the most important parasites of canines and rabbits. T. pisiformis cysticercus (the larval stage) causes severe damage to rabbit breeding, which results in huge economic losses. In this study, the genetic variation of T. pisiformis was determined in Sichuan Province, China. Fragments of the mitochondrial cytochrome b (cytb) (922 bp) gene were amplified in 53 isolates from 8 regions of T. pisiformis. Overall, 12 haplotypes were found in these 53 cytb sequences. Molecular genetic variations showed 98.4% genetic variation derived from intra-region. F(ST) and Nm values suggested that 53 isolates were not genetically differentiated and had low levels of genetic diversity. Neutrality indices of the cytb sequences showed the evolution of T. pisiformis followed a neutral mode. Phylogenetic analysis revealed no correlation between phylogeny and geographic distribution. These findings indicate that 53 isolates of T. pisiformis keep a low genetic variation, which provide useful knowledge for monitoring changes in parasite populations for future control strategies.

OBJECTIVETo observe the kinetic change that reflects joint loading in different planes during stair climbing in knee osteoarthritis (KOA) after electroacupuncture (EA) by three-dimensional motion analysis, so as to provide reference for its biomechanical mechanism treated with acupuncture.
METHODSForty KOA patients, in accordance with the random number table, were assigned into an observation group and a control group, 20 cases in each one and finally 18 cases completed. Acupoints in the observation group were Neixiyan (EX-LE 4), Dubi (ST 35), Yanglingquan (GB 34), Yinlingquan (SP 9), Xuehai (SP 10), Liangqiu (ST 34) and Zusanli (ST 36); points in the control groups were located about 2 cm next to the above acupoints with shallow acupuncture. EA was connected at Neixiyan (EX-LE 4) and Yinlingquan (SP 9), Liangqiu (ST 34) and Yanglingquan (GB 34). The frequency was 2 Hz with continuous wave in the observation group and there was no current in the control group for the corresponding points. All the treatment was given for 3 weeks, totally 11 times. Climbing stairs gait was measured before and after treatment. Velocities and kinetic parameters during ascending and descending stairs were analyzed, including flexion and extension peak torques of hip, knee, ankle on the vertical plane, external knee adduction moment on the coronal plane.
RESULTSAfter treatment in the observation group, velocities during ascending and descending stairs significantly increased (<0.05,<0.01); maximal ankle plantar flexor moments during ascending and descending stairs and the second peak external knee adduction moment (PEKAM2) during ascending stairs significantly increased (<0.05,<0.01). After treatment in the control group, the first peak external knee adduction moment (PEKAM1) and PEKAM2 during descending stairs were less than those before treatment (<0.05,<0.01). In the observation group, the difference value (DV) of velocity before and after treatment was positively correlated to DV in the torque of ankle plantar flexors during ascending stairs in the observation group (=0.598,<0.01). Excluding the impact of velocity, the DV of the maximal torque of ankle plantar flexors during ascending stairs didn't show difference in the observation group (>0.05).
CONCLUSIONEA can increase the velocities of ascending and descending stairs of KOA patients. It improves the loading capacity of knee joint on both sagittal and coronary planes. But its effect during ascending may be correlated with the increase of velocity. The mechanism of different effects between EA and minimal acupuncture on joint moments is still unclear and warrants further study.

This study aimed to obtain the first national estimate of the prevalence of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in Chinese children. We targeted the population of 6 to 12-year-old children for this prevalence study by multistage convenient cluster sampling. The Modified Chinese Autism Spectrum Rating Scale was used for the screening process. Of the target population of 142,086 children, 88.5% (n = 125,806) participated in the study. A total of 363 children were confirmed as having ASD. The observed ASD prevalence rate was 0.29% (95% CI: 0.26%-0.32%) for the overall population. After adjustment for response rates, the estimated number of ASD cases was 867 in the target population sample, thereby achieving an estimated prevalence of 0.70% (95% CI: 0.64%-0.74%). The prevalence was significantly higher in boys than in girls (0.95%; 95% CI: 0.87%-1.02% versus 0.30%; 95% CI: 0.26%-0.34%; P < 0.001). Of the 363 confirmed ASD cases, 43.3% were newly diagnosed, and most of those (90.4%) were attending regular schools, and 68.8% of the children with ASD had at least one neuropsychiatric comorbidity. Our findings provide reliable data on the estimated ASD prevalence and comorbidities in Chinese children.
