Objective To enhance the function of picture archiving and communication systems (PACS) and the efficiency of medical imaging by adjusting dataflow. Methods About 9500 examinations consecutive data in July of 2003 were analysed and and followed. The dataflow was adjusted by adding digital radiology servers and temporal servers. Results The network bottleneck was resolved and the system load balanced, then the function of the system was enhanced. The secure running of the system was ensured in condition of urgency or increasing of patients and image data. Conclusion Adjustment of dataflow in PACS makes full use of all resources, reduces unnecessary time-wasting , further improves the working efficiency in our department.

Objective To observe effect of intra-and post-operative mild hypothermia using an ice blanket on patients with severe traumatic brain injury (sTBI).Methods Twenty sTBI patients with Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) of 3-8 points were included and were assigned to either ice bag cooling (Bag group) or ice blanket cooling (Blanket group) (n =10 each) according to random number table.Patients in Bag group had temperature reduction by placing ice bag over great vessels, whereas in Blanket group an ice blanket (temperature was set as the nasopharyngeal temperature of 33℃-34℃) was employed to have temperature reduction.Hypothermia therapy in the two group groups was initiated from the beginning of operation and continued for 48 hours after operation.Intracranial pressure, cerebral perfusion pressure (CPP) and GCS in both groups were recorded respectively at 10 minutes before operation (T0) and at 8,12,24,48 and 72 hours after operation (T1,T2,T3,T4 and T5).Venous blood of the two groups was harvested to assay the serum concentration of neuronspecific enolase (NSE),myelin basic protein (MBP)and S-100β at T0,T3,T4,-Ts and at 96 hours after operation (T6) by ELISA method.Glasgow Outcome Scale (GOS) was evaluated at postoperative six months. Results In Bag group, body temperature (T1-T5) of the patients had no significant decrease (P > 0.05) and NSE (T3-T6),S-100β (T3-T6) and MBP (T4-T6) were increased (P < 0.05 or 0.01) when compared with those in T0 ; intracranial pressure (T2-T5) was increased (P < 0.05) and CPP (T3-T5) was lowered (P < 0.05) when compared with those in T1.In Blanket group, body temperature (T1-T6) of the patients presented was decreased significantly (P < 0.01) and NSE (T3-T6),MBP (T5-T6) and S-100β (T4-T6) were increased (P < 0.05 or 0.01) when compared those in T0 ; intracranial pressure (T2-T6) was increased (P < 0.05) and CPP had no significant changes (P >0.05) when compared with those in T1.By contrast with those in the same time points in Bag group, lower body temperature (T1-T5) (P < 0.001),lower intracranial pressure (T2-T5),higher CPP (T3-T5) as well as lower NSE (T4-T6),MBP (T4-T6) and S-100β(T6)were observed in Blanket group (P <0.05 or 0.01).Changes of GCS and GOS in the two groups were no significance (P >0.05).Conclusion Intraoperative and postoperative mild hypothermia therapy using an ice blanket may alleviate the degree of brain injury in sTBI patients.

Objective To investigate the association of serum brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and methylglyoxal (MG) levels with cognitive function in elderly patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Methods The normal population and elderly patients with T2DM were frequency-matched by age, sex, and educational level. BDNF was detected by ELISA assay, MG by HPLC assay, and cognitive function by sets of repetitive mental state examination (RBANS) in the two groups. Results (1) Compared with control group, serum BDNF level in T2DM group was significantly decreased [ (4.97±3.05 vs 11.77±7.92)ng /ml, P<0.01]while serum MG level was elevated [(67.91 vs 43.86) nmol /L, P<0.05]. The increasing of serum MG was related to the decreasing of serum BDNF. (2) Compared with control group, the scores for standardized tests of cognitive scale, visual breadth, immediate memory, delayed memory, and attention areas in T2DM group were significantly decreased (all P<0.05). After the influencing factors were adjusted by multiple regression, the associations of serum BDNF level with cognitive scale standardized score, the delay associated with memory and attention functions were still evident, and serum MG level in T2DM group was still related with the levels of delayed memory, immediate memory, total scale standardization (all P<0.05). (3) Serum BDNF level was negatively correlated with serum MG level (P=0.031). Conclusions Cognitive function of elderly patients with T2DM is related with serum MG and BDNF levels. The increased serum MG as well as the decreasd serum BDNF levels maybe involved in the pathogenesis of impaired cognitive function.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the set-up and preliminary performance of a digital radiology conference system and its characteristics.
METHODSThe imaging system included a dual-screen image-text workstation with a Matrox G450 demonstration dual-head card, two multimedia projectors, a large screen, and a line-pair and grey scale test card. Patient information on radiology information system (RIS) and images on picture archiving and communication system (PACS) were fetched with GE Radworks software based on Intranet and PACS. The fetching velocity and resolution and grey scale of the images were measured.
RESULTSPatient information in the form of texts and images were demonstrated successfully on two screens with Matrox G450 demonstration dual-head card and switched rapidly between text-image two-screen and image two-screen. The image fetching velocity was fast, the resolution was high, and the grey scale was good.
CONCLUSIONThe digital conference radiology system is good, and should be popularized.

Objective:To investigate the region-specific characteristics of the gut microbiota and evaluate the association of speci?c gut microbes with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) from the Dongxiang Group in Gansu province, Northwest China.Methods:Fifty-three participants who was born in Dongxiang Autonomous County (Gansu Province) from April 2020 to January 2021 were enrolled, including 25 patients with T2DM recruited from the outpatient departments of internal medicine at The People′s Hospital of Dongxiang County(T2DM group) and 28 healthy controls recruited from the health screening center (HC group). Gut microbiome composition was analyzed using a 16S ribosomal RNA gene-based sequencing protocol. Results:A total of 936 operational taxonomic units (OTU) were obtained in the two groups. Of note, the HC and T2DM groups had 633 OTU in common. The alpha and beta diversity were different between the two groups ( P<0.05). Shannon index was significantly higher than that in the HC group, and Simpson index was significantly lower than that in the HC group, displacement multivariate analysis of variance was used to compare β diversity between the two groups, and the difference was statistically significant ( P<0.05). At the Phylum level, firmicutes and actinomycetes in T2DM group were significantly higher than those in the HC group (37.97% vs. 22.89%, 5.09% vs. 2.08%), and the differences were statistically significant ( P<0.05). The abundance of Bacteroidetes was significantly decreased (68.00% in T2DM group and 49.75% in HC group), and the difference was statistically significant ( P<0.05). At the genus level, there were 20 genera statistically significant differences between the two groups. The abundance of Bifidobacterium, Escherichia, Shigella, and Tyzzerella_4 levels were significantly increased in the T2DM group, but Prevotella_9, Erysipelotrichaceae_UCG-003, and Roseburia levels were significantly decreased in the T2DM group compared to those in the HC group. Conclusions:There is a significant difference in the gut microbiota between patients with T2DM and healthy individuals of the Dongxiang group in Northwest China. So as to preliminary exploration the intestinal flora characteristics of T2DM in the Dongxiang group. The findings of this study provide a theoretical basis for the prevention and control of T2DM in Dongxiang group in the future.
