Objective:To observe the clinical efficacy of linear scalp-acupuncture combined with herbs in the treatment of Parkinson's disease(PD).methods:One hundred and fifty PD cases were randomized into four groups in the sequence ofvisit.Eighty-eight cases in group A,were treated by linear scalp.acupuncture and herbs effective to nourish the liver and kidneys, activate blood and remove wind, and acupuncture was performed every other day and 10 treatments made uP one course;20 cases in group B,were treated only by linear scalp-acupuncture;20 cases in group C,were treated by herbs effective to nourish the liver and kidneys, activate blood and remove wind;22 cases in group D,were treated by Dopamine. All groups were treated for three months.Resuits:The total response rate was 89.8%in group A,similarto 86.4%in group D(P>0.05),and higherthan 65.0%in group C(P<0.01).Conclusion:Linear scalp-acupuncture combined with herbs is quite effective in the treatment of PD.

In this series, 24 cases of ulcerative colitis and 23 cases of chronic colitis were treated with drug partition -moxibustion with total effective rates of 95. 83% and 95. 55% respectively, markedly excelled that of control group treated with western medicine. Comparison made on the results of the 15 cases of ulcerative colitis before and after treatment showed that drug partition - moxibustion inhibits humoral immunity and strengthens cellular immunity. It is suggested that the mechanism might lie on the adjustment on the abnormal ratio between T - lymphocytes subgroups, hence the self - immune state in the patient can be checked and the mucosal lesion in the intestine corrected.

Macrophages( Mφ)play an important role in the regulation of immune reaction. Different kinds of cellular microenvironment influence the phenotypes and function of Mφ and induce different immunological effect. Researches showed that there was a strong correlation between the dysfunction of Mφ and development of ulcerative colitis( UC ). Targeted regulation on immunological activity of Mφ may improve the clinical manifestations and pathological changes in UC. Regulation of the activity and migration of Mφ through changing microenvironment might be one of the potential mechanisms of moxibustion in treating UC. Progress in research on immunological effect of Mφ in UC was summarized in this review article.

Objective:To explore the prevalence of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) based on a community population of Shanghai and the treatment of IBS by acupuncture therapy. Methods:A population of 1 685 subjects aged between 18-80 years were randomly selected by clustered sampling from the inhabitants in Changqiao Community of Shanghai to receive a questionnaire, for understanding the symptomatology and prevalence of IBS according to modified Manning and Rome II criteria, and the voluntary IBS patients were treated by acupuncture therapy. Results:The community- based prevalence of IBS was 11.45 % and 5.04% respectively according to modified Manning criteria and Rome II criteria. The ratio of male and female was 0.77:1 in IBS patients and the proportion was 10.62% and 12.19% respectively. But there were no significant difference in prevalence between different age groups (P>0.05) .IBS is more common in subjects aged between 45-65 years (38.86%).Regarding the 62 IBS patients treated by electroacupuncture (EA),the total effective rate in Tianshu (ST 25) group (n=32) was 84.38%,and it was 56.67% in Daheng (SP 15) group (n=30),which showed a significant difference.(P<0.05).Conclusion:IBS is a commonly encountered disorder in Changqiao Community of Shanghai and should be taken into consideration for human welfare, disease prevention and further epidemical investigation.Acupuncture treatment is recommended for treating IBS due to its satisfactory therapeutic effect.
