1.Application of 125I implantation in the elderly prostate cancer patients

Objective To evaluate the clinical safety and efficiency of applying 125I permanent-implant prostate brachytherapy (BRT) in elderly prostate cancer patient treatment.Methods From Jan.2007 to Dec.2011,23 elderly patients (age ≥75 years) with a diagnosis of localized prostate cancer were treated at our institution and then were evaluated retrospectively.The average age was 79.7 (ranged from 75-87) years.The average prostate volume was 52 (ranged from 35-78) ml.PSA level was 6.2±1.5 (ranged from 3.3 to 9.8) μg/L.Seven cases were in T1cN0M0,sixteen cases were in T2aN0M0.Five cases were with Gleason score of 4,two cases were with Gleason score of 5,sixteen cases were with Gleason score of 6.All patients received a single 125I permanent-implant brachytherapy with a total dosage of 145 Gy.Patients were stratified according to biochemical recurrence-free survival (bDFS),overall survival rate (OS) and complications.All the patients had not accepted anti-androgen therapy or external radiotherapy.Results The average followed up were 50 (ranged from 4 to 77) mon.After 3 months,the average serum PSA was 2.4±0.4(ranged from 0.9-3.8) μg/L,there was significant difference compared with that before treatment (P=0.003).After 1 years,the average serum PSA was 0.2-2.7 μg/L and 87% (20/23) patient's PSA was less than 1 μg/L.2 cases had biochemical recurrence (bNED rate,91%).4 patients died,among them 1 patients died of prostate cancer.The overall survival rate was 83%,and the cancer-specific survival rate was 96%.Of the patients with urethral adverse effects,0-V adverse effect rates were 34.8%,43.5%,17.4%,4.3%,0 and 0.No serious complication such as rectal fistula occurred.Conclusions BRT is an effective and safe monotherapy in elderly prostate cancer patients.

The pollution of surface water and ground water caused by pharmaceuticals and personal care products(PPCPs) can directly affect the quality of drinking water.The sources of PPCPs and the routes to the drinking water were introduced briefly in the present paper.The removal efficiency of PPCPs in different unit processes applied in drinking water treatment was discussed in detail,including clarify,oxidization-disinfection,advanced treatment and so on.The performances of drinking water treatment unit processes for PPCPs removal were evaluated simply.
3.Effect of Zijin Capsule on Inflammatory Factors of Bacillary Prostatitis Rats

Objective To observe the mechanism of Zijin capsule on treating prostatitis. Methods Bacillary prostatitis rat model was made by injecting E.coil into prostate. The changes of serum TNF-?, IL-2, IL-8, IL-10 and mRNA expression of IL-8 and TNF-? in rat prostate were observed. Results Zijin capsule could reduce the serum TNF-?, IL-8 and prostate TNF-?, IL-8 mRNA expression in rat, increase the level of IL-2 and IL-10. Conclusion Zijin capsule could regulate the immune function of bacillary prostatitis rat model. Participation of immune regulation may be one of the treating mechanisms.
4.Role of adrenalectomy in treating recurrent Cushing′s disease: A report of 43 cases

Objective To evaluate the efficacy of laparoscopic adrenalectomy and open adrenalectomy in treating recurrent Cushing′s disease. Methods Forty-three patients (29 females and 14 males) with recurrent Cushing′s disease treated with laparoscopic adrenalectomy (LA, n=32) or open (OA, n=11) adrenalectomy from 2000 to 2008 were retrospectively analyzed. Patients completed the follow-up survey including a 36 item short-form (SF-36) health survey. Results All 43 patients achieved successful adrenalectomies without intraoperative complication. The duration of the LA was significantly shorter than that for the OA. Intraoperative blood loss was low in both groups. Median length of hospital stay was shorter in the laparoscopic adrenalectomy group, P<0.05. The median follow-up was 48.5 mon. Of the 34 (79.1%) patients available for follow-up, 22 (64.7%) had an adrenocorticotropic hormone levels >200 ng/ml and six (27.3%) had clinical Nelson syndrome. Thirty-four patients who completed the SF-36 survey reported that they felt their health status had changed from good to excellent after adrenalectomy. However, except for social activity, they showed significantly lower SF-36 scores compared with the general population, P<0.05. No statistical difference was found in SF-36 scores between the laparoscopic and open groups. Conclusions Adrenalectomy is safe and an effective option in the treatment of recurrent Cushing′s disease. It can help patients to improve both survival rate and quality of life.
5.Comparative study of self-ligating brackets and conventional brackets:direction and progress

BACKGROUND:The self-ligating bracket is superior to the conventional bracket in orthodontic treatment, but there are a lot of controversies. At present, researchers have different views on the function of self-ligating brackets. OBJECTIVE:To summarize the comparative study of self-ligating brackets and conventional brackest with the direction and development in recent years. METHODS:A computer-based search of PubMed (2000-2014) and CNKI (2000-2014) databases was done for relevant articles, using the key words of “self-ligating brackets; conventional orthodontic brackets” in English and Chinese, respectively. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:Self-locking brackets saves chair side time, which has been confirmed and accepted. There are different views for the issue that self-ligating brackets can reduce friction in orthodontic treatment. It is widely accepted that, the self-ligating brackets using thin round wire had less friction than the conventional brackets; whether the friction of self-ligating brackets in the closed gap and fineness adjustment stages is less than the conventional brackets stil remains unclear, which need further clinical comparative studies. The self-ligating brackets showed no significant difference with the conventional brackets in arch expansion, reducing anchorage loss and root adsorption. The majority of relevant studies is performedin vitro, and cannot exactly simulate the dental conditions. A large-size experiment with the uniform criteria for therapeutic efficacy is needed to objectively evaluate self-ligating brackets.
6.Training method for skills of evidence-based nursing for nurses in surgical department

Objective In this study we discussed the training method for skills of evidence-based nursing(EBN)for nurses in surgical department.Methods We selected 43 nurses in two surgical department as training objects.The trainging procedure was established according to the four steps of evidencebased nursing,putting forward questions,searching for evidences,making observations and applying evidence-based nursing.The nurses were trained according to the procedure.The skills of EBN,ability of obtaining information and satisfaction degree of nurses was evaluated after training.Results The skills of EBN and the ability of obtaining information after training Was statistically different from those before training(P <0.01).95% nurses considered that their EBN ability was improved after training. Conclusions The skills of EBN and the ability of obtaining information increased after EBN training in nurses of surgical department.This had instructive significance for the application of evidence-based nureing.
7.Analysis of Small Molecule Compounds by Matrix Assisted Laser Desorption Ionization Time-of-Flight Mass Spectrometry with ZnO, CuO and NiO Nanoparticles as Matrix

Transition metal oxide ZnO nanoparticles as inorganic matrix was adopted in the matrix assisted laser desorption ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry ( MALDI-TOF-MS ) analysis of small molecule compounds including sugars and stearic acid and its performances were investigated. In addition, the feasibility of metal ion selective ionization of L-arginine by using NiO and CuO nanoparticles as matrix directly was explored initially. In the experiment, the analyte and nanoparticle suspension were mixed on the sample plate. The crystal of analyte and matrix was excited by 337 nm laser after the solvent was evaporated, and then detected under reflection mode of TOF-MS. The results indicated that ZnO nanoparticles with high UV absorption could eliminate the interference of conventional matrix, simplify the mass spectra, and enhance the peak intensity of stearic acid under negative mode. Moreover, Cu+ ion selective ionization of L-arginine was achieved in comparison of CuO and NiO as matrix for MALDI-TOF-MS analysis of L-arginine.

10.Kinetics of municipal sewage degradation in EGSB and UASB reactors at 10℃

Kinetics of municipal sewage degradation in Expanded Granular Sludge Bed (EGSB) and Up-flow Anaerobic Sludge Blanket (UASB) reactors at 10℃ were investigated via continuous experimental equipments. The results indicated that the whole reaction process can be simulated by the first-order dynamic equation model. Dynamic parameters such as k, Vmax and Ks of UASB in hydrolysis acidification stage were 1.08 d-1, 2.8 d-1 and 372 mg/L comparing to those of 1.18 d-1, 3.5 d-1 and 112 mg/L in the methanogenesis stage respectively. The EGSB's k, Vmax and Ks were 2.91 d-1, 14.3 d-1 and 470 mg/L in the hydrolysis acidification stage comparing to those of 1.68 d-1, 6.6 d-1 and 103 mg/L in the methanogenesis stage respectively. Comparison of k values of the two stages in UASB and EGSB indicates that hydrolysis acidification stage is the controlling step for the whole reaction process of UASB, while methanogenesis stage is the controlling step in EGSB. Compared with UASB, municipal sewage treatment by EGSB at 10 ℃ can reach the same effluent requirement with lower retention time due to its effluent recirculation.
