OBJECTIVETo observe the effect of using polytetraflouroethylene (e-PTFE) tube with self-Schwann cells implanted to repair facial nerve defect.
METHODSEnzymatic digest method was used to get pure Schwann cells in short time. The e-PTFE membrane tube was used to bridge the 1.0 cm defect of facial nerve and pure self-Schwann cells were injected into the tube. As control group, the e-PTFE tube without self-Schwann cells was used in the same way. Electric physiological and histological examinations were taken in different times.
RESULTSThe effect of nerve regeneration of the experimental group was better than control group at any time. The nerve conduction velocity of the experimental group was 29.70 m/s in the 16th week, while the control groups was 23.00 m/s respectively at the same time.
CONCLUSIONIt is possible to obtain sufficient active Schwann cells by enzymatic digest method. Using e-PTFE tube to bridge the defect of facial nerve with self-Schwann cells implanted can get effect of nerve regeneration.

Objective To investigate the clinical characteristics, diagnosis and treatment for Graves' disease associated with papillary thyroid microcarcinoma(PTMC) by retrospectively analyzing domestic and foreign literatures. Methods 32 patients of Graves' disease associated with PTMC treated at the Department of Thyroid Surgery, the First Bethune Hospital of Jilin University from Jun.2008 to Jun.2013 were collected.32 cases of PTMC with normal thyroid function were randomly selected by a random number table method from the same period as control. Results The experimental group had 32 patients aging from 24 to 71 years old, among whom 3 were males, and 29 were females with the male to female ratio was 1∶9.7.15 cases in the experimental group had positive central lymph node metastasis and the other 17 cases were negative, while in the control group 7 cases were positive and 25 cases were negative. The mean number of positive lymph nodes was 3 ± 2.88 in the experimental group and 1.71 ± 1.25 in the control group. The ratio of positive lymph node metastasis(the number of positive lymph nodes/the total number of lymph nodes, and the total number of central lymph nodes was >3)was (50.34 ±27.09) % in the experimental group and(33.5 ±30.79)% in the control group. For the above 3 values of central lymph node metastasis, the experimental group were all higher than those of the control group (P =0.035,0.039,0.018 respectively). Conclusions Compared with patients of PTMC,patients of Graves' disease associated with PTMC are more likely to have central lymph node metastasis, more number of positive lymph node and higher metastasis ratio. In order to prevent the postoperative recurrence of Graves' disease and thyroid carcinoma local lymph node, total thyroidectomy plus central lymph node dissection should be the ideal operation method.

Hematopoietic stem/progenitor cell transplantation is one of main choices for treating patients with malignant tumor or heredity diseases in recently year. The homing of hematopoietic stem cells(HSC) is a committed step to ensure the bone marrow hematopoiesis reconstitution. Recent studies have showed that stromal cell derived factor-1 (SDF-1) and its receptor has important effects on proliferation, differentiation, homing of HSC to bone marrow and hematopoiesis reconstitution. The purpose of this review is to give a recent update informations on mechanism of hematopoiesis regulation mediated by SDF-1 and its receptor

Objective To explore the role of tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase-1(TIMP-1) during renal senescence by using human TIMP-1 transgenic mice. Methods Renal histological changes of wild type mice and transgenic mice at the age of 3,12,24 months were observed by periodic acid-schiff(PAS)staining of paraffin sections. The numbers of F4/80 positive cells were detected by immunofluoreseence. The protein expressions of TIMP-1,TIMP-2,matrix metalloproteinase(MMP)-9,MMP-2,intercellular adhesion molecule-1(ICAM-1),transforming growth factor?1(TGF-?1),collagenⅢand collagenⅣwere detected by Western blot. The activities of gelatinases and TIMP-1 were examined by gelatin zymography and reverse zymography respectively. Results Focal renal fibrosis was found in two genotypes with aging. At the age of 24 months, compared with wild type,in kidneys of transgenic type, the expressions and activities of gelatinases were dowregulated (MMP-2:2.08?0.20 vs.3.39?0.43;MMP-9:4.02?0.82 vs.6.72?1.40,all P<0.05);the expressions of collagenⅢ,collagenⅣ,ICAM-1,and TGF-?1 were upragulated(0.72+0.11 vs.0.57?0.09;0.84?0.13 vs.0.6?0.11,0.72?0.12 vs.0.53?0.07; 0.69?0.12 vs.0.45?0.09,all P<0.05),and the numbers of F4/80 positive cells were increased (18.8?4.4 vs.12.7?3.6,P<0.05)with the upregulated expression and activity of TIMP-1(1.10?0.18 vs.0.62?0.09;50.75?7.25 vs.20.64?3.50,P<0.05).Conclusions TIMP-1 could promote age-related renal fibrosis through enhancing inflammation reaction by ICAM-1 upregulation.

To investigate the genetic diversity among wild Dipsacus asperoides in China, 66 germplasmic resources of D. asperoides were analyzed by Start Codon Targeted Polymorphism (SCoT) molecular markers. Genetic distance was calculated by TREECONW software and the systematic diagram of genetic relationship was clustered by UPGMA method. The results showed that the totals of 181 bands were detected using 20 primers , among which 109 were polymorphic bands. The average percentage of polymorphic bands was 60.13%. Genetic distance changed from 0.030 6 to 0.181 4. The clustering results showed that there was no significant correlation between the classification of the wild D. asperoides and their geographical origin. The relatively high genetic diversity of D. asperoides provides the basis for breeding new varieties.

OBJECTIVETo compare the early clinical outcomes of primary total knee arthroplasty in the valgus knee between mobile-bearing prosthesis and fixed-bearing prosthesis.
METHODSFrom January 2011 to December 2013, 17 patients (23 knees) treated by the same surgeon were selected for a retrospective study in the First Hospital of Jilin University, including 2 males and 15 females with a mean age of 61.5 years old (48 to 75 years). The pre-operative diagnosis included osteoarthritis (14 patients, 19 knees) and rheumatoid arthritis (3 patients, 4 knees). The patients with valgus deformity were divided into group A and group B. The patients in group A were treated with the fixed-bearing prosthesis (9 patients, 12 knees), and the patients in group B were treated with the mobile-bearing prosthesis (8 patients, 11 knees). The Knee Society Score (KSS), Hosptial for Special Surgery (HSS), Western Ontario MacMaster (WOMAC), the range of motion (ROM) and femorotibial angle were collected at pre-operation and post-operation follow-up for statistical analysis.
RESULTSAll the patients were followed up, and the duration ranged from 6 to 36 months (mean 25 months). The valgus deformity was corrected in all patients, and there were significant differences for all patients between pre-operation and post-operation at the latest follow-up with regard to the KSS knee score, function score, HSS score, WOMAC score, ROM and femorotibial angle (P<0.01). There were no significant differences in KSS knee score, function score, HSS score, WOMAC score, improvement in ROM and femorotibial angle between two groups at the latest follow-up. However there were significant differences in ROM (P<0.05) between fixed-bearing group (101.8±8.8)° and mobile-bearing group (108.4±7.2)° at the latest follow-up. No case with spin-out of mobile bearing was observed. There were no complications in any patient, such as infection, common peroneal nerve injury, dislocation and instability. The X-ary imaging showed no osteolysis or implant loosening.
CONCLUSIONThe early clinical outcomes of primary total knee arthroplasty by using mobile-bearing prosthesis and fixed-bearing prosthesis are satisfactory for the treatment of the valgus knee, and the short term clinical outcomes of mobile-bearing TKA and fixed-bearing TKA are similar.

Chinese Journal of Plastic Surgery 2004;20(3):228-230
OBJECTIVETo study the correlation between the expansion with different volume and the contents of the b-FGF and EGF in the expanded skin.
METHODSThe piglets were used in the experiment, which were divided into 7 groups including the sham, the blank control, the experimental groups with inflation of 1/2 volume, 3/4 volume, full volume, 150% volume and 200% volume. When expansion was complete, b-FGF was measured using enzyme coagulate method. EGF was measured by radioimmunoassay. The data were analyzed statistically.
RESULTSThe contents of b-FGF and EGF in the expanded skin was significantly higher than normal skin (P < 0.05). The difference in contents of b-FGF and EGF between the over-expanded skin and normal skin was more significant (P < 0.01).
CONCLUSIONExpansion can lead to the increase of b-FGF and EGF contents in the expanded skin. The biological effects may be relative to epidermal hyperplasia and angiogenesis of the expanded skin.
