BACKGROUND:Tropomyosin 4 level has been found to be an increase in the spinal cord based on the 2-DE/MALDI-TOF/MS method. However, there is little report about the relationship between tropomyosin 4 and pathogenesis and progress of spinal cord injuries.
METHODS/DESIGN:Randomized control ed trial:rat models of complete spinal cord transection were made and expression levels of tropomyosin 4 at 3-28 days after modeling were determined by two-dimensional electrophoresis, animo acid serie analysis, quantitative PCR and western blot. Experiment for exporing the genetic mechanism:effects of tropomyosin 4 scilencing by lentivirus recomnination technology on the dendrite length of spinal cord neurons in vitro were observed, and its effects on the neurological function of rats after complete spinal cord transaction were assessed through Basso, Beattie, and Bresnahan scoring.
DISCUSSION:This study wil be powered to provide a novel and effective treatment strategy for neurological function recovery after spinal cord transection based on the lentivirus recomnination carrying tropomyosin 4, as wel as optimistic future for clinical gene treatment of complete spinal cord transaction through figuring out the underlying mechanism.
ETHICAL APPROVAL:This study was approved by the Ethics Committee of Kunming Medical University, China. The surgical operation and postoperative care of rats were in line with the rules of Chinese Experimental Animal Protection and Ethics Committee, and the guideline of the National Institutes of Health

Objective To investigate the effect of hawthorn leaf flavonoids (HLFs) with the different concentrations in prevention of high blood lipids and fatty liver in quails. Methods Sixty quails were divided into six groups:normal (N),high lipids food model (M),positive control (ZBT),HLF1,HLF2 and HLF3 groups. The animals in the N group were fed with normal food, while the M group was feed with high lipids food to establish the animal model of fatty liver.Besides high-fat diet,HLF1,HLF2 and HLF3 groups were also fed with 1 mL HLFs in the doses of 20 mg/kg,40 mg/kg and 80 mg/kg respectively. The ZBT group was fed with 1 g/kg of ZhiBiTuo and used as the positive control. After the experiments of six months, the serum and liver of the quails were taken and used to evaluate the contents of total cholesterol (TC),triglyceride (TG),high density lipid cholesterol(HDL-C),low density lipid cholesterol (LDL-C),superoxide dismutase (SOD),malondialdehyde (MDA),glutathione (GSH),alanine amino transferase (ALT) and glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase (AST).Meanwhile, the microscopic and electronic microscopic sections were used to observe the pathological changes of the livers of the quails. Results Compared with the M group,HLFs significantly lowered the content of TC,TG,LDL-C,MDA,AST and ALT in the serum and livers of the quails in other groups (P<0.001).However,the levels of HDL-C,SOD and GSH of the other groups were increased markedly (P<0.001).Moreover,the ratios of increase/decrease in the three HLF groups were depended on the concentrations of HLFs.Also, better liver structure and less lipid accumulation were also observed in the HLF groups when compared to the M group. Conclusions These results showed HLFs can lower blood lipid and cholesterol accumulation, improve the antioxidant capacity and protect the physiological function of liver. So,HLFs were effective in preventing and treating high blood lipids and fatty liver induced by high-fat diet.

Progress in Biochemistry and Biophysics 2001;28(2):240-245
The Epstein-Barr virus latent membrane protein 1 (LMP1) oncopro tein causes multiple cellular changes, including activation of the NF-κB trans cription factor. To elucidate its possible mechanism, the interaction between LM P1 and the tumor necrosis factor receptor associated factor (TRAF) molecules was detected by the immunoprecipitation-Western blotting assay. Results showed tha t LMP1 was co-precipitated with TRAF1,2,3 in the LMP1-HNE2 cell line. In the m eantime, κB reporter gene analysis revealed that over expression of TRAF1 or TR AF2 augmented LMP1-mediated NF-κB activation from LMP1, suprisingly, overexpr ession of either TRAF3 or an dominant negative TRAF3 inhibited the NF-κB activ ation, indicating that TRAF1 or TRAF2 is a positive modulator of LMP1-mediated NF-κB activation, whereas,TRAF3 is a negative modulator. Rather both CTAR1 (carboxy-terminal activating region 1) and CTAR2 domains of LMP1 can independently activate NF-κB by interacting with TRAF proteins. These data indicate that LMP1 interacts TRAF1,2,3 which are important for LMP1-mediated N F-κB activation, and further suggest that signaling from TRAFs may be involved in the progression to malignancy in cells of epithelial origin such as nasophar yngeal carcinoma (NPC).

The theory of static and dynamic combination coincides with the effect of osteoblast stress, although there are few articles on molecular biology about the theory in recent years. The treatment of static and dynamic combination theory for fractures and other orthopedic disorders is to use the localized stress fracture, and the stress controls bone formation results through afffecting proliferation of osteoblast differentiation, which has proved by relevant experimental evidence. This article discussed the molecular biology basis about the correlation between theory of static and dynamic combination and osteoblast proliferation and differentiation by stress stimulation.

Objective To explore how to control schistosomiasis at the presence of snails in lake marshland. Methods From March 1st to October 31st every year, 2000-2002- the measure of "marshland isolation and farming prohibition" was carried out. Local residents and cattle were examined and treated for schistosomiasis. Results The infections rate of schistosomiasis in surveillance spots decreased from 2.66% (1999) to 1.66% (2002). The infections rate was 0.57% (5/ 871 ) in the township. There were no acute schislosomiasis cases and new patients. The rate of schistosomiasis of cattle decreased from 4. 90% (1999) to 0. 14% . and there was no new calf under two years of age infected. The rale of infected snails decreased from 1. 450% to 0. 005% , and the density of positive snails from 0. 014 8 snail /0. 1 m2 to 0. 000 11 snail/0. 1 m2. Conclusion The measure, mainly including "marshland isolation and farming prohibition", can control schistosomiasis prevalence even at the presence of snails in lake marshland.
