Objective To evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE) with oxaliplatin (OXA), fluorouracil (5-Fu) and pirarubicin (THP) scheme in treating primary liver cancer. Methods A total of 65 patients with primary liver cancer were treated with TACE using infusion of OXA/5-Fu/THP scheme (TACE group). Other 21 patients with primary liver cancer, who were encountered at the Department of Interventional Radiology of authors’ hospital during the same period as the patients of TACE group, received simple transarterial embolization (TAE group). The therapeutic effect, the occurrence of adverse reactions, the progression-free survival time (PFS) and overall survival time (OS) of the two groups were comprehensively evaluated. The results were compared between the two groups. Results In the TACE group, the objective response rate (ORR) and disease control rate (DCR) were 55.4%and 81.5%respectively, and the median PFS and median OS were 11.5 months and 18.5 months respectively. Single factor analysis indicated that patients, who had liver function of Child-Pugh A and received more times or treatment, and who had small-sized tumor and no portal vein tumor thrombus or metastasis, usually had a better prognosis, and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). The prognosis of the patients with Barcelona staging (BCLC) B was better than that of the patients with Barcelona staging C, and the difference was statistically significant (P=0.000). Cox multivariate analysis revealed that the portal vein tumor thrombus and tumor metastasis were independent risk factors for the prognosis of the patients. Compared with the TAE group, TACE with OXA/5-Fu/THP scheme could effectively improve the mean progression-free survival time. Conclusion For the treatment of primary liver cancer, TACE with infusion of OXA/5-Fu/THP is clinically effective with fewer adverse reactions.

A total of 100 HIN1 flu real-time-PCR positive throat swabs collected from fever patients in Zhejiang,Hubei and Guangdong between June and November 2009,were provided by local CDC laboratories. After MDCK cell culture,57 Influenza A Pandemic (H1N1) viruses were isolated and submitted for whole genome sequencing.A total of 39 HA sequences,52 NA sequences,36 PB2 sequences,31 PB1 sequences,40 PA sequences,48 NP sequences,51 MP sequences and 36 NS sequences were obtained, including 20 whole genome sequences.Sequence comparison revealed they shared a high degree of homology (96%~99%) with known epidemic strains (A/Califomia/04/2009(H1N1).Phylogenetic analysis showed that although the sequences were highly conserved, they clustered into a small number of groups with only a few distinct strains.Site analysis revealed three substitutions at loop 220 (221-228) of the HA receptor binding site in the 39 HA sequences:A/Hubei/86/2009 PKVRDQEG→PKVRDQEA,A/Zhejiang/08/2009 PKVRDQEG→PKVRDQER,A/Hubei/75/2009PKVRDQEG→PKVRDQGG,the A/Hubei/75/2009 was isolated from an acute case, while the other two were from patients with mild symptoms.Other key sites such as 119,274,292 and 294 amino acids of NA protein,627 of PB2 protein were conserved.Meanwhile, all the M2 protein sequences possessed the Ser32Asn mutation, suggesting that these viruses were resistant to adamantanes.Comparison of these sequences with other H1N1 viruses collected from the NCBI database provides insight into H1N1 transmission and circulation patterns.

Objective:To analyze the causal relationship between SARS-CoV-2 infection and retinal vascular obstruction by mendelian randomization (MR).Methods:A two-sample MR analysis utilizing summary statistics from genome-wide association studies (GWAS) in European populations was conducted. The GWAS data for SARS-CoV-2 infection comprised cases of common infection (2 597 856), hospitalized infection (2 095 324), and severe infection (1 086 211). Data on retinal vascular obstruction were obtained from the FinnGen database, which included 203 269 cases of retinal artery obstruction and 182 945 cases of retinal vein obstruction (RVO). Inverse variance weighting (IVW), random effects models, weighted median (WM), MR-Egger regression, simple models, and weighted models were used to analyze the bidirectional causal relationship between different SARS-CoV-2 infection phenotypes and retinal obstruction. The Q statistic was used to assess heterogeneity among single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP), while MR-Presso was utilized to detect SNP outliers, and MR-Egger intercept tests were performed to evaluate horizontal pleiotropy. Results:The MR analysis, using IVW, random effects models, MR-Egger, WM, and weighted models, indicated no significant association between common SARS-CoV-2 infection, hospitalized infection, severe infection, and retinal vascular obstruction ( P>0.05). Additionally, retinal vascular obstruction did not show a significant association with the various SARS-CoV-2 infection phenotypes ( P>0.05). In the simple model, a significant association was found between severe SARS-CoV-2 infection and RVO ( P<0.05), as well as between RVO and common SARS-CoV-2 infection ( P<0.05). No heterogeneity was observed in the IVW and MR-Egger analyses ( P>0.05). The MR-Egger test provided no evidence of horizontal pleiotropy ( P>0.05), and MR-Presso detected no outlier SNP. Conclusion:The findings of this study do not support a causal relationship between SARS-CoV-2 infection and the occurrence of retinal vascular obstruction.

BACKGROUNDChronic exposure to n-hexane can lead to peripheral neuropathy that no effective treatment regimen could be applied presently. This study investigated whether myelin protein zero (P0) protein and its antibody could be used to distinguish n-hexane intoxication and protect workers from peripheral neuropathy.
METHODSWe compared P0 protein and its antibody among three levels of n-hexane-exposed groups, which included 18 patients with n-hexane-induced peripheral neuropathy as case group, 120 n-hexane-exposed workers as n-hexaneexposed control group, and 147 non-hexane-exposed participants used as control group. ELISA method was applied to detect P0 protein and its antibody.
RESULTSP0 protein in serum was significantly higher in the case group and n-hexane-exposed control group in comparison with the control group (P < 0.01). Compared with the n-hexane-exposed control group, the case group also had significant increase of P0 protein (P < 0.01). After 6 months therapy, P0 protein was observed to decrease significantly in the case group (P < 0.01). The P0 antibody in serum was significantly higher in the n-hexane-exposed control group than in the control group (P < 0.01), but not significantly different between cases and controls.
CONCLUSIONSP0 antibodies in serum may be a short-term effect biomarker for n-hexane exposure. P0 protein in serum may be an early effective biomarker for peripheral nerve neuropathy and its biological limit value needs investigation in the future study.
