Objective To explore the usefulness of enhanced patient education in increasing the patients' knowledge and awareness of peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) protection.Methods Totally 200 patients with PICC in Neijiang First People's Hospital from June 2009 to June 2012 were divided into control group (odd numbers,conventional patient education,n =100) and observation group (even numbers,enhanced patient education,n =100) according to their admission numbers.The patients' knowledge and awareness of PICC protection were analyzed after treatment,and the incidences of adverse events and catheter indwelling time were also compared between these two groups.Results Compared with the control group,the observation group had significantly higher PICC protection knowledge rate (91％ vs.78％,P =0.001),awarehess rate (95％ vs.80％,P=0.011),lower incidence of adverse events (1％ vs.5％,P =0.034),and longer PICC indwelling time [(125.8 ± 10.6) d vs.(106.7 ±8.2) d,P =0.026].Conclusion Enhanced patient education can effectively enhance the patients' knowledge and awareness of PICC protection.

Objective:To investigate the protective effects of quercetin ( QU) on myocardial ischemia/reperfusion ( MI/R) injury in rats and the underlying mechanisms. Methods:MI/R injury model in rats was prepared by coronary artery ligation for 30 min fol-lowed by 120 min reperfusion. And then the rats were randomly divided into 5 groups, QU (25, 50 and 100 mg·kg-1 ) groups, the model group and the sham group (n=10). QU was orally administered once a day for 7 days before the operation. The CK and LDH activities and TNF-α and IL-1β levels in serum were examined respectively by colorimetric and ELISA method after the reperfusion. Besides, the area of myocardial infarction was calculated and MPO activity in heart homogenate was detected. Results:QU (100 and 50 mg·kg-1 ) could significantly reduced the area of myocardial infarction to 25. 00% and 25. 31%, respectively, and compared with that of 32. 55% in the model group, the difference was significant (P<0. 05). The CK activity in the three QU groups was 779. 82, 793.90 and 870.86 U·L-1, respectively, which was significantly lower than that (1 123.78 U·L-1) in the model group (P<0. 01). The LDH activity in the three QU groups was 2 138. 21, 2 277. 40 and 2 416. 53 U·L-1, respectively, which was significant-ly lower than that (3 105.32 U·L-1) in the model group (P<0.05 or P<0.01). Compared with that (311.72 U·g-1) in the model group, the MPO activity in heart homogenate in the three QU groups was reduced to 185. 70, 190. 66 and 210. 03 U·g-1 , re-spectively (P<0. 05 or P<0. 01). Compared with that (119. 55 pg·ml-1) in the model group, QU (100 and 50 mg·kg-1) signif-icantly reduced the level of TNF-αto 97. 48 and 97. 54 pg·ml-1, respectively (P<0. 05). Compared with that (673. 34 pg·ml-1) in the model group, IL-1βlevel in serum in the three QU groups was evidently reduced to 419. 26, 438. 72 and 492. 53 pg·ml-1 , re-spectively (P<0. 01). Conclusion:The effectiveness of QU pretreatment in MI/R injury appears to be associated with the inhibition of neutrophil infiltration and expression of inflammatory cytokines.

Objective To observe the effect of Tongbihuoluo Tang on the cerebral infarction.Methods 148cases in recovery of cerebral infarction were randomly divided into control and treated groups(each n =74),the control group was treated with conventional western medicine,while the treated group was treated with Tongbihuoluo Tang based on the conventional treatment,the course was 28d,then the clinical efficacy of the two groups was compared.Results After treatment the neurological deficit score was significantly improved compared with before treatment,the treated group was better than the control group.The efficacy of the treated group was significantly better than the control group,the total effective rate was 94.6％,which was significantly higher than 75.5％ in control group,the difference between the two groups was significant(P ＜0.05).Conclusion Tongbihuoluo Tang may be helpful to the patients on the basis of western medicine,and it was worthy to be used in clinical practice.

Objective:To evaluate the clinical effects of Distal-Jet appliance on the distalization of maxillary molar.Methods:12 Class Ⅱ malocclusion patients(at the average age of 12.3 years) with mesially moved maxillary molar were treated by Distal-Jet appliance. Cephalometic radiographs and dental models were taken and analyzed before and after molar distalization.Results:The treatment time was (4.3?2.8) months. After treatment following effects were achieved:①The maxillary molar was distalized by (3.6?0.75) mm per side with crown tilting distally by ( 3.5 ?3)?. ②The first premolar was moved mesially by (2.1?1.7) mm (tilting movement). Anterior overjet was increased by (1.47?1.76) mm. ③In the vertical dimension,the maxillary molar was extruded slightly by (0.39? 0.46 ) mm, the first premolar was extruded by (0.43?0.61) mm. ④The width between the central point of first maxillary molar was increased by ( 2.8 ?1.1) mm.Conclusions:The Distal-Jet appliance can distalize maxillary molars effectively. However,it may result in distaly tilting of molars and mesial movement of premolars.

Objective To discuss the role of interleukin (IL)-12 in capillary bronchiolitis disease.Methods Fifty-nine cases of capillary bronchiolitis children under 2 years old were enrolled as the bronchiolitis group Ⅰ(n =28) and bronchiolitis group Ⅱ(n =31),36 cases of children with bronchopneumonia of the same age and 31 cases of children suffered from non-infectious diseases such as hernia and renal calculus of the same age were enrolled as bronchopneumonia control group and normal control group respectively.The peripheral blood IL-12 levels of four groups were detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay.Results The levels of the peripheral blood IL-12 in bronchiolitis group Ⅰ,bronchiolitis group Ⅱ,bronchopneumonia control group and normal control group were (34.72±7.96) pg/ml,(55.30 ±6.72) pg/ml,(56.79±10.36) pg/ml and (61.23 ± 11.51) pg/ml respectively.The level of the peripheral blood IL-12 in bronchiolitis group I was significantly lower than that in bronchiolitis group Ⅱ,bronchopneumonia control group and normal control group respectively (P ＜0.05),and the level of the peripheral blood IL-12 in bronchiolitis group ⅡⅡ was significantly lower than that in bronchopneumonia control group and normal control group respectively (P ＜ 0.05),but there was no significant difference between bronchopneumonia control group and normal control group (P ＞ 0.05).Conclusion The level of IL-12 is one of the important factors for bronchiolitis disease,the reducing of serum level of IL-12 in children who have a high risk factor of capillary bronchiolitis is more obvious.

ObjectiveTo study the relationship between condom use and sexually transmitted infection (STI) incidence among men who have sex with men (MSM) in 9 cities in China.MethodsA sectional survey was carried out by using targeted sampling method (snowball sampling) in MSM who often consumed at bars in 9 cities in China,including Harbin,Shenyang,Xi'an,Zhengzhou,Nanjing,Shanghai,Wuhan,Chengdu and Chongqing.The survey respondents were required to complete an anonymous questionnaire,and blood samples were obtained from them.Data were analyzed by SPSS 13.0 software.ResultsOverall,2250 respondents were included in this survey.Most MSM recognized that condom use could prevent STI,and no significant difference was observed in the percentage of MSM who had the recognition between MSM with STI and MSM without STI (P ＞ 0.05).The incidence of STI was statistically lower in MSM who used condom during sexual intercourse than those who never used ( 17.2％ vs.24.5％,P ＜ 0.05 ),Iower in MSM who used condom at every time of anal intercourse in the last 6 months than those who used condom not at every time or never used condom (14.2％vs.19.3％,P ＜ 0.01 ).The respondents who thought that the insistence on using condom would make the partner suspicious that they suffered from STI showed a higher incidence of STI(34.0％) compared with those who believed that they just had one partner(16.6％,P ＜ 0.05 ),those who thought that condom use was detrimental to their close relationship (16.1％,P ＜ 0.05),and those who thought condom use was unnecessary (11.5％,P ＜0.01 ).ConclusionsCondom use is definitely beneficial to the prevention of transmission of STI/acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS).MSM who use condom at every time are associated with a lower incidence of STI,while those who think that the insistence on using condom will make their partners suspicious that they suffer from STI are associated with a high incidence of STI.
