Chinese Journal of Postgraduates of Medicine 2008;31(28):15-18
Objective To study the relationship between the level of uric acid and oxidative stress in patients with chronic systolic heart failure (CSHF). Methods One hundred and nine hospitalized patients from June 2006 to March 2007 were selected. Based on organic heart disease and heart function, they were classified into two groups: CSHF group (81 cases) and control group (28 eases). According to NYHA heart function grade (Ⅱ, Ⅲ, Ⅳ), CSHF group was divided into three subgroups. The plasma concentration of GSH and GSSG was determined by using glutathione reduetase recycling method (GR-DTNB). Redox potential (Eh) was calculated using Nemst equation according to the concentration of reduced and oxidized glutathione. Results There was significant difference between control group and CSHF group in the level of uric acid [(310.54±99.92) μ mol/L vs (499.09±168.04) μ mol/L], P < 0.01. Uric acid had a negative correlation with LVEF (r=-0.247, P=0.026), and a positive correlation with LVED D (r=0.266, P=0.016). The concentration of uric acid had a negative correlation with GSH (r=-0.328,P=0.003), and a positive correlation with GSSG (r=0.244, P=0.028) and Eh (r=0.309, P=0.005). Conclusions The concentration of uric acid increases in CSHF patients and has a correlation with LVEF and LVEDD. It may be a supplementary marker to reflect heart function and the serious degree of CSHF. The concentration of uric acid has a negative correlation with GSH, and a positive correlation with GSSG and the value of Eh. It may be used as an indicator of oxidative stress concerning its metabolic pathway.

This article was aimed to study the species identification capability of psbA-trnH among Guanzhong herbs from Dryopteri. The nucleotide sequence information of psbA-trnH region was abstracted using standardized manners from 9 Dryopteri species (19 samples). The identification efficiency of psbA-trnH was analyzed based on TaxonGap among both tested materials (9 species, 19 samples) and tested materials plus GenBank data (17 species, 44 samples in total). The results showed that with the expanded species range, the discriminative efficiency of psbA-trnH de-clined from 100% (9/9) to 82.4% (14/17), while the proportion of within-specific heterogeneity larger than between-specific separability increased from 11.1% (1/9) to 52.9% (9/17). It was concluded that psbA-trnH can be recom-mended as the valuable barcode for homonym distinguishment among Guanzhong herbs, with attention of adequate sampling within species.

Objective To observe the clinical efficacy of Tiaoxinyin treatment for diabetic cardiac autonomic neuropathy (DCAN);To evaluate its efficacy and safety. Methods One hundred patients of DCAN were randomly divided into experimental group (51 cases) and control group (49 cases). Both groups were given basic treatment of diet control and Metformin hydrochloride tablets orally taking. Patients in the experimental group were given Tiaoxinyin, while patients in the control group were treated with Mecobalamin tablets for 8 weeks. Changes and untoward effects in blood glucose, blood fat and heart rate variability were observed before and after treatment so as to compare the efficacy of two groups. Results The total effective rate of the experimental group was 82.35% (42/51) and the control group was 63.27% (31/49), with statistical significance between the two groups (P<0.01). The TCM scores of the two groups decreased after treatment, with statistical significance compared with those before treatment (P<0.01). The difference in TCM scores between the two groups was significance (P<0.05). The level of FBG and 2 h PG in the two groups declined (P<0.05). Heart rate variability had statistical significance compared with that before treatment (P<0.05), with statistical significance between the two groups (P<0.05). No obvious adverse reaction was found. Conclusion Tiaoxinyin is effective and safe in treating DCAN and can improve the heart rate variability indicators in patients.

Objective: To evaluate the relationship between serum mRNA level of heparin binding epidermal growth factor (HB-EGF) and acute coronary syndrome (ACS) occurrence. Methods: Our research included in 2 groups: ACS group,n=50 patients and Control group,n=100 normal subjects. Serum HB-EGF mRNA level was examined by RT-PCR and the relationship between HB-EGF mRNA and ACS occurrence was assessed by Logistic regression analysis. Results: Compared with Control group, the serum HB-EGF mRNA level of ACS group was higher (0.22±0.73) vs (0.46±0.14),P<0.05. With adjusted meaningful factors of hypertension, smoking, TG, TC, LDL-C, HDL-C and BMI by single factor analysis, multi Logistic regression analysis indicated that serum HB-EGF mRNA was related to ACS occurrence (OR=5.813, 95% CI 2.342-14.426,P<0.001) which meant that upon 0.1 grey value of HB-EGF mRNA elevation, the risk of ACS occurrence may increase 4.813 folds accordingly. Conclusion: Serum HB-EGF mRNA level was related to ACS occurrence.

This study was aimed to identify original plants of Xi-Huang-Cao (XHC) through DNA barcodes. The nu-cleotide sequence information of rbcL, psbA-trnH, matK and ITS2 regions were abstracted using standardized man-ners from 41 samples (including Rabdosia serra, R. lophanthoides and R. lophanthoides var. graciliflora). Sequencing efficiency of each marker was calculated. Species identification capability was tested on the basis of TaxonGap. The results showed that sequence success rates were 100% for rbcL, 90.2% for psbA-trnH, 87.8% for ITS2, and 70.7%for matK. Three markers (rbcL, psbA-trnH and ITS2) were competent for species discrimination (not for subspecies). It was concluded that rbcL can be the preferred barcode for XHC because of its convenience and efficacy.

ObjectiveTo investigate the impact of metal plate on radiation dose distribution by Monte Carlo (MC) code. MethodsThe metal plates with 0. 4 thick were placed in water at 5 cm, all the plate irradiated with 6 MV X-ray were simulated by MC code, SSD =100 cm. The percentage depth dose with or without metal implants were compared. ResultsThe surface absorbed doses on incident plane of stainless steel plate and titanium plate were increased by 19. 6% and 15.7% respectively as compared water, the dose influence was less than 1.5% more than 0. 3 cm outside the incidence plane. The doses on the exit surface of stainless steel plate and titanium plate were lowered by 8. 6% and 8. 2% when compared with water, the dose impacts of this places where were from the exit surface of stainless steel plate 、titanium plate more than 1.2 cm,0. 9 cm were less than 1.5%. The surface absorbed doses on incident plane of stainless steel plate were increased by 3.9% respectively as titanium plate, the dose of the exit surface of stainless steel plate and titanium plate was similar. Conclusions MC method is a fast and accurate calculation method. The influence of metal plate on the radiotherapy dose distribution is significant. Under the such condition, the impact of stainless steel plate is much more than that of titanium alloy plate.
