Objective To sum up the experience on diagnosis and treatment of Hashimoto disease and its concurrent thyropathy. Methods Clinical data were analyzed on 52 cases of Hashimoto disease(HD) surgically found to have concurrent thyropathy from Jan 1984 to Jun 2001 out of 138 HD cases undergoing surgery. Results Thyroid nodules were found in all 52 HD cases, among which 17 were with thyroid cancer, 2 with malignant lymphoma, 5 with thyroid adenoma, 2 with hyperthyroidism, and 26 with nodular goiter. Thyroidectomy of different extent was performed. Postoperatively all cases were given thyroxine. On follow-up a patient with malignant lymphoma died, and one patient suffered hypothyroidism. Conclusion HD is a ubiquitous disease. The clinical diagnosis of is still difficult. HD cases complicated with thyroid nodules should be treated surgically to exclude malignant tumors. Intraoperative frozen section is a reliable diagnostic method and may guide the surgical modality.

Objective To explore the surgical management for acute cases of aortic diseases. Methods The clinical data of 18 acute cases of thoracoabdominal aortic diseases were analysed retrospectively. Results This study included ruptured thoracoabdominal aortic dissection of 15 cases and open wound of the abdominal aorta of 3 cases. There were 15 males and 3 females, with mean age of 42.7 years. Eight patients were received open emergent operation, and the other 10 cases underwent endovascular procedure. The mortality was 11.1% (2/18). Follow-up from 2 months to 3 years revealed all patients in a good condition. Conclusions In cases of emergent aortic diseases, endoluminal technique is simple, mini-invasive and safe. However, open surgery is still mandatory and effective especially when endovascular procedure is not indicated or failed.

ObjectiveTo study the early diagnosis and prevention of fungal infection in severe acute pancreatitis(SAP). Method 1.SAP patients from July 1998 to June 2002 were prospectively randomized into 3 groups: garlicin prevention group, fluconazole (low dosage) prevention group and control group, the incidence of fungal infection in SAP was compared between the groups. For fungal infection patients, the fungal clearance and mortality rate were observed. 2.Clinical data of SAP patients with fungal infection and with simple bacterial infection was compared by multivariate logistic regression, and clinical characters and risk factors of fungal infection were evaluated. Results 1.There were lower incidences of fungal infection in garlicin group (16% vs. 30%,P
