Objective To study the effects of propofol on cognitive function and expression of BDNF in the cerebral cortex after the traumatic brain injury (TBI).Methods Forty-eight SD rats treated with the Morris water maze were randomly divided into 3 groups with 16 rats in each group.Rats in the sham group were subjected to the operative procedure but prevented from traumatic brain injury.Rats in the control group and the propofol group were subjected to the traumatic brain injury named Feeney.After the operation,rats in the propofol group were injected propofol for 6 hours.The neurological functional status and the cognitive function of rats were assessed with NSS scores and Morris water maze tests on 3d and 14d post operation.RT-PCR and Westeron Blot were used to detect the expressional changes of BDNF in the injured cerebral cortex.Results Compared with the sham group,NSS scores and the latencies of escape among rats in the control group were increased and times of crossing platform were decreased at 3d and 14 d post operation (P ＜0.01),and the mRNA and protein levels of BDNF were decreased at 3d post operation (P ＜0.01).Compared with the control group,the mRNA and protein levels of BDNF in the propofol treated rats were increased at 3d and 14d post operation (P ＜0.01),NSS scores were lower at 14d (P ＜0.01),the latencies were shorter and the times were increased (P ＜0.01).Conclusion Propofol improves the the expression of BDNF in the injured cerebral cortex and facilitates the recovery of the neurological and cognitive function in rats with traumatic brain.

The application of medical network education system has created favorable conditions for the network education in our hospital. This paper describes the system and resource database construction, educational application and some problems confronted. Construction improvement and widely application of the system are also thoroughly discussed.

Preoperative qualitative diagnoses of 118 eases of renal tumour.made by B-mode ultrasound were analyzed.The final diagnoses were proven operatively and pathologically.The resultsshowed that by B-mode altrasound the detective rate was 92.2%,a correct qualitative diagnosis rate 49.1%,incorrect rate 18.1%and false positive rate 1.7%.Qualitatively unidentified turnouts accounted for 32.8%of all the cases.It is assumed that B-mode ultrasound can be used to make correct qualitative diagnosis only on certain tumours with typical image features.It is difficult for it to distinguish some tumours which have complicated displays.The accuracy of preoperative qualitative diagnosis could be raised by combining B-mode uhradound with other imaging technologicol examinations.

Aim To study the inhibitory effects of ex-tractive pericarpium trichosanthes ( EPT) on high glu-cose-induced apoptosis in human umbilical vein endo-thelial cells ( HUVECs ) and its underlining mecha-nisms. Methods HUVECs were cultured. Effects of EPT at different concentrations on the high-glucose-in-duced apoptosis in HUVECs were observed. The cell viability of HUVECs was determined by MTT colori-metric method. Cell apoptosis was identified by Ho-echst staining. The intracellular activity of Caspase-3 was detected with colorimetry. Protein expression and p65 nuclear translocation of NF-κB were detected by Western blot and immunofluorescence staining. Re-sults Treated with 30 mmol · L-1 glucose for 48 hours had a significantly decrease on cell viability com-pared with control, and the apoptotic rate and Caspase-3 activity were increased markedly, the protein expres-sion of NF-κB was upregulated and p65 nuclear trans-location in HUVECs increased; Pre-incubation with EPT(12. 5,25,50 mg·L-1 ) for 1 hour enhanced the cell viability, and decreased the apoptotic rate and Caspase-3 activity and downregulated the expression of NF-κB in a dose-dependent manner. Moreover, EPT could inhibit p65 translocation. Conclusion EPT can protect HUVECs against the apoptosis induced by high glucose in vitro,and its mechanism may be related with downregulation of NF-κB expression and inhibition of the intracellular activity of Caspase-3 .

Objective To set up a method for identification of Lonicerae japonicae flos volatile oils using Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy. Methods The volatile oils of Lonicerae japonicae flos and Lonicerae flos was extracted by steam distillation combined with continuous liquid-liquid extraction with hexane. An oil film was prepared for Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy scanning by dropping the volatile oils solution on the KBr disc and evaporating the solvent. The obtained infrared spectrum was treated by baseline removing and median filter smoothing. The spectral data within 1800-850 cm-1 was selected as the characteristic spectrum for hierarchical cluster analysis. And the volatile oils of Lonicerae japonicae flos and Lonicerae flos were discriminated by the result of hierarchical cluster analysis. Results Enough volatile oils were extracted for obtaining Fourier-transform infrared spectrum from small amount of Lonicerae japonicae flos. The method developed in the study was able to discriminate Lonicerae japonicae flos volatile oils from Lonicerae flos volatile oils. Conclusion The method can be used for identification of Lonicerae japonicae flos volatile oils.

Objective To optimize the extraction process of Kanglao Qingfei granules. Methods Orthogonal test design was used to study the influence of soaking time, water content, extraction time on extraction technology with bergenin's extraction rate, total polysaccharides's extraction rate and extract yield as evaluation indexes. Results The optimum extraction process conditions were as follows:the raw materials were immersed in water for 1.0 h and extracted two times under reflux, and the ratio of water volume to raw materials weight was 10 and 8 (mL/g), and extraction time was 2.5 h and 2.0 h, respectively. Conclusion The optimized extraction process was simple and stable, which can provide foundation for industrial production of Kanglao Qingfei granules.

Objective:To investigate the expression of MKK 4 protein in the nasopharyngeal carcinoma and its clinical significance.Methods:Immunohistochemical methods were employed to analyze MKK 4 positive expression intensity and positive cells in freshly collected nasopharyngeal carcinoma of both 90nasopharyngeal carcinoma cases and 20 chronic nasopharyngitis control.The clinical pathological characteristic were analyzed.Results:The data obtained by MKK4 immunohistochemistry showed that the MKK 4 positive rate was higher in control group than in the NPC group (95.5%vs 75.6%,P<0.05).The expression of MKK4 was related to tumor differentiation and lymph node metastasis ( P<0.05 ) , but not to gender , age, tumor volum and TNM stage ( P>0.05 ) . Conclusion:Positive rate of MKK4 protein in nasopharyngeal carcinoma tissues is lower than in chronic nasopharyngitis.MKK4 protein expressions in nasopharyngeal carcinoma tissues negatively correlated with lymph node metastasis ,clincal stage ,invasive depth ,and TTP (Time to progression),but not with age,gender,location and tumor volume.

Objective To investigate the significance of sequential continuous sonography approach (SCSA) in diagnosing fetal deformity during prenatal stage. Methods Compared with postpartum data, the sequential continuous sonography of 16685 fetuses during gestational age 14 to 40~(+3) weeks. 1 were ana-lyzed retrospectively. Results 498 abnormal cases in 514 abnormal fetuses were scanned out with sequen-tial continuous sonography approach, and 16 cases were not successfully diagnosed by SCSA during prenatal stage. The rate of final diagnosis on deformity fetuses by SCSA was 96. 89%, the rate of misdiagnosis was 3. 1%. Conclusion Sequential continuous sonngraphy approach is a useful tool for diagnosing fetal de-formity during prenatal stage, h should be widely applied into the clinical inspection for prenatal diagnosis.

OBJECTIVE:To compare the performance of several pattern recognition methods in the identification of volatile oils of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)by infrared spectroscopy. METHODS:The volatile oils of several Lonicera and Citrus TCM were determined by infrared spectroscopy. All samples of infrared spectrum were classified by hierarchical clustering,K-mean clustering,artificial neural networks,and support vector machine. RESULTS:The results of hierarchical clustering and K-mean clus-tering were ineffective. Methods of artificial neural networks and support vector machine achieved correct classification rate of 100%. CONCLUSIONS:Artificial neural networks and support vector machine can be combined with infrared spectroscopy to cre-ate chemometric fingerprinting for the identification of volatile oils of TCM.

Objective To determine the prevalence and the risk factors for childhood obesity in Changsha and Shenzhen, China.Methods A case-control study was conducted in 209 obese children (the cases) identified in the investigation on childhood obesity in 6 288 children aged 6 to 9 years in Changsha and Shenzhen in China and 209 children with normal weight (the controls). The cases and controls were matched by gender, age, and school. Adjusted odds ratio (aOR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) for the risk factors were measured.Results The prevalence rate of overweight and obese children was 9.28% and 3.30% in Changsha, and 12.17% and 4.22% in Shenzhen, respectively. The rate of overweight children is significantly higher in Shenzhen than in Changsha. No statistical difference was observed in the rate of obesity between the children in both cities. Paternal obesity (OR 1.78, 95% CI 1.01 to 3.16), maternal weight gain during pregnancy ≥15.0 kg (OR 5.22, 95% CI 2.78 to 9.80), birth weight ≥4.00 kg (OR 2.55, 95% CI 1.24 to 5.26), unhealthy snacks ≥1 per week (OR 3.94, 95% CI 1.11 to 13.99), and watching television ≥2 hours per day(OR 2.35, 95% CI 1.01 to 5.47) were associated with childhood obesity when potential confounding factors were adjusted by multi-variable logistic regression analysis. Conclusion Paternal obesity, gestational weight gain, high birth weight, and unhealthy life-style are important risk factors for obesity in urban children in south China.
