The exoerythrocytic forms (EEF) of Plasmodium yoelii yoelii BY265 in the liver of rats and mice are morphologically similar, however, the size of the matured EEF in the former is far much larger than that in the latter. In the sections of the liver of both the animals, which are sliced 48-65 hours after the inoculation of sporozoites, certain degenerated EEF can be found. The degenerated EEF fall into two types:(1) Degenerated EEF without WBC infiltration, These EEF usually remain intact in their outline with many vacuoles of the size 1-6?m in diameter in the cytoplasm. The nuclei of the host hepatic cells parasitized are usually swollen and appear blank after staining. No WBC infiltration can be found.(2) Degenerated EEF with WBC infiltration: The outline of these degenerated EEF is no more intact. They are usually infiltrated and/or surrounded by WBC.Degeneration occurs in 6.6% of the EEF in rats and 5.8% in mice. Once the normally developed parasites become matured and ruptured, large amoants of WBC are attracted and accumlated to form local foci of WBC infiltration of the size 35-90?m in diameter. In some of the foci, remnants of the parasites can be seen, while in some others, no remnants can be found and they most likely are also formed by the degenerated EEF or ruptured matured parasites.

Objective To establish an isolation method for solid GTC in peripheral blood using EpCAM antibody-linked nanobeads and evaluate the sensitivity of the method and its application significance. Methods Five, ten, twenty, fifty and one hundred MCF7 (breast cancer), KYSE70 (esophageal cancer), BxPC-3 (pancreatic cancer) and 9811P (stomach cancer) cells were added into 7. 5 ml erythrocyte lysed peripheral blood obtained from healthy volunteers respectively. EpCAM antibodylinked nanobeads were used to enrich cancer cells. The recovery rates of the in vitro added cancer cells were evaluated by fluorescence microscopy. Then, the untreated thirty cases of esophageal cancer (six cases at stage Ⅰ and Ⅱ, twenty-four cases at stage Ⅲ and Ⅳ), thirty-five cases of breast cancer (fifteen cases at stage Ⅰ and Ⅱ , twenty cases at stage Ⅲ and Ⅳ), thirty cases of pancreatic cancer (five cases at stage Ⅰ and Ⅱ , twenty-five cases at stage Ⅲ and Ⅳ), thirty-three gastric cancer (thirteen cases for stage Ⅰ and Ⅱ ,twenty cases at stage Ⅲ and Ⅳ) were enrolled to enrich the peripheral blood CTC. Thirty healthy volunteers and thirty gastritis patients served as two groups of control. Meanwhile the enriched CTC was identified by IF and HE staining. FISH was used to analyze the copy number of chromosome 8 and chromosome 20 in two hundred esophageal cancer, breast cancer, pancreatic caner and gastric cancer CTC. Results After DAPI staining and mixing with 7.5 ml peripheral blood from healthy donors, the average cell recovery rates of KYSE70, MCF7, BxPC-3 and 9811P cells evaluated under fluorescence microscope were 87%, 87%, 86% and 88% (within group), and the recovery rates of 5 gradient dilution levels were 88%, 85%, 87%, 88% and 87% (intergroup). With a high sensitivity, this method was able to isolate one cancer cell in 107 white blood cells of peripheral blood. The positive rates of more than 2 CTC in the peripheral blood detected by this method were 50% (15/30) of esophageal cancer, 63% (22/35) of breast cancer, 70% (21/30) of pancreatic cancer and 61% (20/33) gastric cancer patients respectively, but no CTC was detected in the peripheral blood of healthy volunteers and gastritis patients (P = 0. 000).The aneusomy of chromosome 8 and chromosome 20 were found in 80% esophageal cancer, 75% breast cancer, 65% pancreatic cancer and 59% gastric cancer. Conclusions The CTC isolation technique with EpCAM antibody-linked nanobeads is sensitive and accurate. The aneusomy of chromosome 8 and 20 is frequent in CTC from esophageal cancer, breast cancer, pancreatic cancer and gastric cancer.

Objective: To explore the effect of different selenium sources on the function of humoral immunity and antioxidant capacity of rabbits. Method: Thirty-five rabbits were randomly divided into seven groups and vaccinated with rabbit haemorrhagic disease (RHD) dead vaccine. At the same time, rabbits were injected respectively with sodium selenite (0.1 mg/kg bw and 0.3 mg/kg bw), Kappa-selenocanageenan (0.1 mg/kgbw and 0.3 mg/kg bw), DL-selenomethionine (0.1 mg/kg bw and 0.3 mg/kg bw) and physiological saline as control. Antibody against RHD, activity of GSH-Px and content of MDA in rabbit serum were detected on 0, 10, 20, 30d after inoculation. Results: Sodium selenite (0.1 mg/kg bw), Kappa- selenocanageenan (0.3 mg/kg), and DL-selenomethionine (0.3mg/kg bw) could significantly increase the level of RHD antibody. Sodium selenite (0.3 mg/kg bw) and Kappa-selenocanageenan (0.3mg/kg bw) improved the activity of GSH-Px. All selenium groups could decrease serum MDA, but Kappa-selenocanageenan (0.3 mg/kg bw) showed the best effect. Conclusion: Kappa-selenocanageenan (0.3 mg/kg bw) was better than the lower dosage and other selenium sources in the effects on the function in humoral immunity and antioxidant capacity of rabbits.

OBJECTIVETo compare the difference in CT manifestations between primary colorectal mucinous adenocarcinoma and signet ring cell carcinoma in order to improve radiologic diagnosis.
METHODSClinicopathological data and CT findings of 109 patients with colorectal mucinous adenocarcinoma and 46 patients with primary colorectal signet-ring cell carcinoma confirmed by surgery and pathology from March 2008 to February 2015 in the Tumor Hospital of Yunnan Province were retrospectively collected. Differences in age, gender, tumor location, length and thickness of the involved intestinal wall, thickening pattern of the intestinal wall, lesion density, calcification, contrast-enhanced form, peri-intestinal invasion, occurrence of intestinal obstruction and metastasis of other organs were compared between the two groups.
RESULTSAmong 109 patients with colorectal mucinous adenocarcinoma, 68 were men and 41 were women with a mean age of (56.8±15.4) years. Among 46 patients with primary colorectal signet-ring cell carcinoma, 26 were men and 20 were women with a mean age of (42.9±15.6) years. Compared with mucinous adenocarcinoma group, signet-ring cell carcinoma group showed more concentric bowel-wall thickening[93.5%(43/46) vs. 81.6%(89/109), χ=9.19, P=0.030], higher lesion density [(42.0±3.0) Hu vs. (28.5±1.5) Hu, t=37.30, P=0.000], more marked enhancement [54.3%(25/46) vs. 12.8%(14/109), χ=35.21, P=0.000], less vast-low-density region in enhanced CT imaging[2.2%(1/46) vs. 45.0%(49/109), χ=73.31, P=0.000] and more severe peri-intestinal invasion [41.3% (19/46) vs. 17.4%(19/109), χ=10.25, P=0.006]. Calcification was found in 18.3%(20/109) of mucinous adenocarcinoma cases, but was not found in signet-ring cell carcinoma cases (χ=9.69, P=0.002). Target ring sign in contrast-enhanced scan was observed in 15.2%(7/46) of signet-ring cell carcinoma cases, while in none of mucinous adenocarcinoma cases (χ=17.37, P=0.000). There were no statistically significant differences in lesion location, length and thickness of the involved intestinal wall, occurrence of intestinal obstruction, lymph node metastasis, liver or peritoneum metastasis between two groups(all P>0.05).
CONCLUSIONSSignet-ring cell carcinoma is often found in younger patients, whose CT manifestation is characterized by the target ring sign in contrast-enhanced scan, while primary colorectal mucinous adenocarcinoma is often in older patients, whose CT manifestation is characterized by calcification in unenhanced scan and low density region in enhanced CT show.

Objective:To evaluate the accuracy of lung ultrasound score (LUSS) in predicting emerging hypoxemia after tracheal extubation in the patients in postanesthesia care unit (PACU).Methods:A total of 333 patients of both sexes, aged 18-89 yr, of American Society of Anesthesiologist physical statusⅠ-Ⅲ, scheduled for elective abdominal surgery, were included in the study.Lung ultrasound examinations were performed before operation (T 0) and on admission to PACU (T 1), and the LUSS were recorded as LUSS 0 and LUSS 1.Arterial blood gas analysis was conducted at 20 min after tracheal extubation, and oxygenation index (PaO 2/FiO 2) were recorded.Patients were divided into 2 groups according to the oxygenation index: PaO 2/FiO 2<300 mmHg group (hypoxemia group), and PaO 2/FiO 2≥300 mmHg group (non-hypoxemia group). Multivariate logistic regression analysis and the receiver operating characteristic curve were used to evaluate the accuracy of LUSS 1 in predicting the emerging hypoxemia after extubation in the patients in PACU. Results:The incidence of emerging hypoxemia in PACU after extubation was 9.0%.Multivariate logistic regression analysis indicated that LUSS 1 and body mass index were independent risk factors for emerging hypoxemia after extubation in the patients in PACU.The area under the ROC curve for LUSS 1 was 0.873 ( P<0.001, 95%CI 0.812-0.935). The patients with LUSS 1<7 had a lower risk of hypoxemia after extubation (LR -=0.15, 95%CI 0.05-0.45), and the patients with LUSS 1>10 had a higher risk of hypoxemia after extubation (LR + =17.25, 95%CI 7.35-40.51). Conclusion:LUS can effectively predict the development of hypoxemia after tracheal extubation in the patients in PACU.
