1.MTA1 in tumor progression and metastasis
International Journal of Surgery 2011;38(1):56-59
MTA1 is a composition of Nurd, which may deacetylate histone and non-histone to affect gene transcription and protein expression. Since it is often overexpressed in many tumors and closely related to invasion, metastasis and prognosis of the malignancy, MTA1 might be exploited as a tumor marker for clinical application. This article reviews the structure and function of MTA1 and some new research progress on the tumor metastasis related to MTA1.

To explore the influence of low light on the synthesis of carotenoids, chlorophyll and the adaptability of transgenic plants with tomato Solanum lycopersicon L. GGPS2 gene, we constructed a vector containing a GGPS2 gene with green fluorescent protein (GFP) as report gene under the control of a cauliflower mosaic virus 35S promoter and introduced it into tobacco Nicotiana tabacum L. cv. Wisconsin 38 by Agrobacterium tumefaciens-mediated transformation. PCR analysis of the DNA from kanamycin resistant tobacco indicated that the transgenic tobacco containing the nptII gene, SlaGGPS2 gene and without contamination of Agrobacterium. We also detected the root tip of kanamycin resistant tobacco showing characteristic fluorescence. The contents of carotenoid, chlorophyll and photosynthesis of transgenic tobacco increased in comparison with wild tobacco after low light treatment. In addition, leaf mass per unit area, total dry weight, ratio of root to shoot in transgenic tobacco were all higher than that of the wild tobacco, which proved that the transgenic tobacco could increase the accumulation of biomass and promote it transport to root. The transgenic tobacco with SlaGGPS2 gene can increase the contents of carotenoid, chlorophyll, enhance the photosynthetic rate, promote the biomass accumulation and its distribution to root. Hence, the transgenic tobacco with SlaGGPS2 gene had increased low light tolerance and the SlaGGPS2 gene maybe can be used in other crops.

BACKGROUND:Traditional distal femoral fixation plate screw breakage is relatively common. Designing good anatomical and attached fixation system is the key for clinical application.
OBJECTIVE:To perform finite element analysis in two states of motion of the minimal y invasive distal femoral fixation system, compare stress distribution of different parts in the same fixed way, different fixed methods and the same fixed parts of different motion states.
METHODS:Imaging data of a 34-year-old male patient weighing 68 kg with 33-C1 type fracture of distal femur were selected. CT data were input into Mimics 16.0 for reconstruction. PRO-E software was used to establish minimal y invasive internal fixation system with distal femoral locking plate. Data were introduced into reconstructed models of distal femur fracture in Mimics for grid division. Data were introduced into Ansys products 11.0 to construct finite element model, fix the surface of distal femur, and loaded 340 N on greater trochanter of femur. Stress distribution of each plate, screw hole and screw tail was analyzed in each group. Stress at the same region was compared in flexion and extension movement states.
RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:(1) Finite element models of anatomic locking plate for distal femur fracture fixation were successful y established, total y 43 536 units, 41 256 nodes. (2) With the steel segment gradual y down (S1-S5), the stress gradual y increased. A1-A5 with the increase in the number of screws, the stress gradual y increased, but A6 suddenly decreased. (3) According to the cloud atlas of stress, these were wel distributed except A1. From distal end to extremity of screw, the stress of screws increased. Among corresponding segments, significant differences in stress around the nail holes and steel segment stress were detected. Moreover, the steel stress was greater than the stress of corresponding segment of screw hole. (4) Results suggest that using anatomical locking plate and minimal y invasive internal fixation system for distal femur fracture in a variety of fixed modes and moving conditions, the stress of each part is less than the yield strength of the titanium al oy screw, so the fixed system wil not produce instantaneous deformation or fracture.

Objective:To investigate the sensitivities and specificities of high-frequency color doppler ultrasonography, thin layer CT enhancing scan and 99m Tc-MIBI biphasic scintigraphy in diagnosis of secondary hyperparathyroidism(SHPT)in uremia patients. Methods: High-frequency color doppler ultrasonography, thin layer CT enhancing scan and 99m Tc-MIBI biphasic scintigraphy were performed in 35 uric patients to detect the hyperplastic parathyroid glands. Then biopsies with thin needles were conducted with B ultrasound instruction in hyperplastic glands to determine the sensitivities and specificities of the above techniques and free combination of each 2 of them in diagnosis of SHPT. Results: The sensitivities /specificities of high-frequency color doppler ultrasonography, thin layer CT enhancing scan and 99m Tc-MIBI biphasic scintigraphy were 73%/95%, 75%/93% and 89%/98%, respectively; the sensitivity/specificity of 4 combinations: high-frequency color doppler ultrasonography plus CT, high-frequency color doppler ultrasonography plus 99m Tc-MIBI biphasic scintigraphy, CT plus 99m Tc-MIBI biphasic scintigraphy, and high-frequency color doppler ultrasonography plus CT plus 99m Tc-MIBI biphasic scintigraphy were 84%/90%, 93%/93%, 95%/93%, and 100%/90%, respectively. Conclusion: The sensitivity of 99m Tc-MIBI biphasic scintigraphy SHPT is higher than that of high-frequency color doppler ultrasonography and CT, but the specificity is not significantly different 3 photographic techniques. However, combination of high-frequency color doppler ultrasonography and 99m Tc-MIBI biphasic scintigraphy is simple and sensitive and can be regarded as the first choice for diagnosis of SHPT in uremia patients.

Despite tre mendous research efforts have been devoted to the analysis of nanoparticles (NPs)biohazard, the potential mechanism for nanotoxicity has not yet been syste mati-cal y elucidated. This review intends to point out the confusions about nanotoxicity in the field and tries to look into the mecha-nism from a new perspective.Currently, there are three puzzles:① no relationship between dose and toxicity could be observed in nanotoxicity;②there is a theory for the″size effects″,however, it cannot explain some cases contrary to the doctrine;③ NPs made of different materials with various sizes could have the same toxic effects through sti mulating oxidative stress. In fact, human body is co mposed of various biological molecules, and the biological function of a living syste m is reflected by the inter-actions and conversions of those molecules.NPs,on the other hand, are the invader of human body which has no ability to transport or convert or digest the foreigner. Thus,NPs could cause celldamage due to the physical blockage of micro-circula-tion,celldestruction due to membrane rando m insertion, and celldysfunction due to physical contacting with big biological mole-cules.The physical damages caused by various NPs could be divided into three categories:adhesion lesion, card inlay and puncture.Above al ,by analyzing wide spectrum of NPs varying in co mposition, shape and size, the author draws a conclusion that physical damage is the origin of nanotoxicity.

A catalytic spectrophotometric method for the determination of micro amounts of osmium has been established based on the catalytic action of Os(Ⅳ) on the oxidation fading reaction of chlorophosphonazo-mA with KIO4 in alkaline-medium. The reaction conditions were optimized by orthogonal experimental design. The detection limit for osmium was 2.0 μg/L.Beer's law was obeyed in the range from 7.0 to 25.0 μg/L for Os(Ⅳ). The method has been applied to the determination of micro amounts of Os(Ⅳ) in concentrate of noble metals and secondary alloy, both of the relative errors were 0.9%. Recoveries varied from 95.38% to 106.0%.
