1.Relationship Between Intracardiovascular Smoke-like Echo and Erythrocytic Rouleaux
Chinese Journal of Ultrasonography 1993;2(1):-
Intracardiovascular smoke-like echo always appears in the regions of stasis.Recently,we experimentally found that its appearance closely related to the erythrocytic rouleaux.(1)In vitro study:Erythrocytic suspension was observed by ultrasound and echofree can be seen on its sonogram.Under mi-croscope.the red blood cells presented dispersed phase. If equal amount of lymphocytic separated solution was put in the suspension,smoke-like echo appeared at the original fluid dark area and the red cells pres-ented pattern of rouleaux.(2)Animal experiment:Under physiological condition, velocity of blood flow israpid and echofree can be seen in the cardiovascular cavity. When blood flow velocity becomes slow or stasis, the shear force will reduce and even disappear,SO.red cells aggregated each other with their concave face and formed a rouleaux. As rouleaux structure was formed, its size became larger and it was nearer orlarger than the wavelength of ultrasound.therefre the reflections were produced and smoke-like echoappeared. It might be the mechanism for the formation of intracardiovascular smoke-like echo.

The shape of regurgitant jets in 30 patients with eccentric mitral regurgitaltoll Showing flow convergence region(FCR)was observed. It was found that the shapes of the jets were allslender and close to left atrial wall.In comparison of the regurgitant volume calculated by pulsed Doppler and regurgitant flow rate by flow convergence with the regurgitant jet area and the ratio 0f the regurgitant area to left atrial area respectively, the results showed that there were poor correlations between them (r=0.59,0.56 and r=0.55,0.57)and good correlation between regurgitant volume determined by Pulsed Doppler and regurgitant flow rate by flow convergence(r=0. 96,P<0.01).When the regurgitant flow rates calculated by flow convergence were same, the regurgitartt jet area and the ratio of the regurgitant jet area to left atrial area of non-eccentric mitral regurgitation were obviously larger than those of eccentric mitral regurgitation. The results indicated that the regurgitant jet area and the ratio of the regurgitant jet area to left atrial area underestimated the severity of eccentric mitral regurgitation apparently and that flow convergence region could be used to assess the seVerItY 0f eccentric mitral regurgitation accurately.

Objective To study the anti-depressive mechanisms of acupuncture by investigating the effects of acupuncture on depressive behaviors and amino-neurotransmitter in hippocampus in rats treated with chronic mild unpredicted stresses. Methods Thirty adult SD rats were randomly divided into a normal group,a depressive model group and an acupuncture group, with 10 rats in each group.Separated feeding,long-term unpredictable and middle stimulation stress were used for development of depression rat model. At the same time, the third group was treated by acupuncture.Autonomic behavior was measured with Open Field test and concentration of amino-neurotransmitter in hippocampus was measured by high performance liquid chromatography coupled with fluorescence detection. Results Compared with the normal group, autonomic activity of the rats and the concentration of GABA were significantly reduced in the model group, while the concentration of Glu was significantly increased(P0.05).Conclusion Acupuncture could reverse the depressive behaviors of rats caused by middle stimulation stress, and its anti-depressive mechanisms is related to the function of regulating the concentration of amino-neurotransmitter in hippocampus.

BACKGROUND:In the clinical orthodontics, ceramic brackets have deficiencies in the aspects of antibacterial and mechanical properties, which easily lead to the emergence of a variety of adverse events and influence the orthodontic effect. OBJECTIVE:To observe the antibacterial and mechanical properties of nano silver hydroxyapatite coating ceramic brackets. METHODS:The nano silver hydroxyapatite coating ceramic brackets were prepared. Scanning electron microscopy was used to observe the coating surface. Coating antibacterial experiment was conducted. Totaly 50 in vitro human maxilary premolars were randomly divided into two groups (n=25 per group): experimental and control groups. Premolars in the experimental group were bonded to nano silver coating hydroxyapatite ceramic brackets, and premolars in the control group were bonded to ordinary ceramic brackets. The shear strength was detected in these two groups.RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: The overall structure of nano silver hydroxyapatite coating was order, uniform and compact. Hydroxyapatite had a porous structure with a micro-nanometer aperture and there were a large number of nano-silver particles uniformly distributed. Quantitative antibacterial experiments showed that nano silver hydroxyapatite coating ceramic brackets had a strong inhibition to Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus albus, with an antibacterial rate of more than 95%. The shear strength in the experimental group was lower than that of the control group (P < 0.05). These results demonstrate that the nano silver hydroxyapatite coating ceramic brackets have good antibacterial and mechanical properties, which meet the requirement of mechanical change in the clinical orthodontics.

The reliability and reliable indexes of quantitative assessment of coronary flow reserve (CFR) by using time-intensity curve (TIC) via myocardial contrast echocardiography were investigated. The TIC variables were obtained by employing acoustic densitometry (AD) technique before and after acetylcholine (Ach) injection in 12 dogs. Meanwhile, the correlation between these variables and CFR was analyzed. Among the variables derived from TIC, peak intensity (PI), area under the curve (AUC) and descending slope (DS) were increased significantly (P < 0.05) with the increase of coronary blood flow after Ach injection. Conversely, time-to-peak (TP), half-time of descent (HT), and mean-transit-time (MTT) were decreased remarkably (P < 0.0001). The PI and AUC ratios from post- to pre-Ach injection were strongly associated with CFR with the correlation coefficient (r) being 0.8366 and 0.8824, respectively. It is reliable by using the variables derived from TIC with myocardial contrast echocardiography to quantitatively evaluate regional myocardial CFR. The PI and AUC ratios from post- to pre-Ach injection are the reliable indexes for quantitative assessment of CFR.

Journal of Huazhong University of Science and Technology (Medical Sciences) 2002;22(1):52-7
To evaluate the possibility and accuracy of Doppler tissue image (DTI) on assessment of normal and abnormal ventricular activation and contraction sequence, 9 open chest canine hearts were analyzed by acceleration mode, M-mode, and spectrum mode DTI. Our results showed that: (1) Acceleration mode DTI could show the origin of activation and conduction sequence on line; (2) M-mode DTI revealed that the activation in mid-interventricular septum was earlier than that in mid-left ventricular posterior wall at sinus activation; (3) Spectrum DTI showed the ventricular endocardium was activated earlier than the ventricular epicardium in all segments at sinus rhythm. The earliest site of activation of the normal ventricular wall was at middle interventricular septum; the latest site was at basal-posterior wall; the contraction sequence was different at the different walls; (4) During abnormal ventricular activation, mid-left ventricular posterior wall was activated earliest in accordance with the pacing sites. Abnormal ventricular activation was slower than sinus activation, and the contraction sequence varied at different sites of ventricular wall. It is concluded that DTI can be used to localize the origin of normal or abnormal myocardial activation and to assess the contraction sequence conveniently, accurately and non-invasively.
