Aim To observe the effect of sodium nitrop russide (SNP)on glial fibrillary acidic protein(GFAP) synthesis in the gerbil hippocampus. Method lmmunofluorescent histochemical staining method was used. Result SNP increased GFAP synthesis in rediatum layer, molecular layer and dentate gyrus. There were not GFAP positive cells in rediatum layer and mol ecular layer.Number of GFAP positive cells related to dose of SNP.Conclu sion SNP increased GFAP synthesis.

AIM: To investigate the influencing factors of vault after the posterior chamber phakic refractive lens(PC-PRL)implantation for patients with super high myopia.METHODS: Retrospective case study. A total of 40 patients with super high myopia(77 eyes)who underwent PC-PRL implantation in the Haixiang Eye Hospital from January 2019 to January 2021 were selected. They were followed up for at least 2a, postoperative anterior segment parameters, such as the uncorrected visual acuity(UCVA), best corrected visual acuity(BCVA), central anterior chamber depth(ACD), anterior chamber volume(ACV), anterior chamber angle(ACA), lens thickness and vault were evaluated, and then the influencing factors of postoperative vault were analyzed.RESULTS: The UCVA and BCVA of the patients significantly improved after PC-PRL implantation(P<0.001). Average safety index(postoperative BCVA/preoperative BCVA)was 1.36±0.32, and average effective index(postoperative UCVA/preoperative BCVA)was 1.23±0.31 in 2a after surgery. The vault in 2a after surgery was correlated with preoperative ACD, ACV, ACA and lens thickness, and the preoperative ACV and lens thickness had significant impact on vault in 2a after surgery.CONCLUSIONS: The PC-PRL implantation is safe and effective in super high myopia, and it can significantly improve visual acuity. Furthermore, preoperative ACV and lens thickness are important influencing factors of postoperative vault.

Objective To evaluate if strategic urethrostomy could reduce complications in complicated hypospadias repair. Methods From January 2016 to August 2018,165 patients of complicated hypospadias were reviewed according to inclusion criteria. They were divided into three groups of one-stage repair (group A,n =86),two-stage repair using Bracka procedure (group B,n =49) and strategic urethrostomy (group C,n =30).The median age was 26 months in group A,24 months in group B and 28 months in group C.The median length of urethral defect was 3.0 (2.0-10.0) cm,4.0 (2.5-10.0) cm and 3.8(2.5-11.0) cm in the different three groups, respectively. No difference showed in age or length of urethral defect among 3 groups.Three groups were compared with rates of urethral fistula, urethral stricture and urethral diverticulum. Results After average of 20.0 months follow-up,the urethral stricture incidence of group C [3.3% (1/30)] was significantly lower than that of group A [22.0% (19/86),P =0.023] and group B[24.5% (12/49),P =0.032].The complications were found in 7 patients with urethral fistula and 11 patients with urethral diverticulum in group A,4 patients with urethral fistula and 3 patients with urethral diverticulum in group B,none patient with urethral fistula nor urethral diverticulum in group C,respectively. The incidence of urethral fistula was 8.1% (7/86),8.2% (4/49) and 0 in the three groups, and the rate of urethral diverticulum was 12.8% (11/86),6.1% (3/49) and 0,respectively.None difference was shown neither in the incidence of urethral fistula nor urethral diverticulum among the three groups(P > 0.05).Conclusions Strategic urethrostomy is a novel and effective method for complicated hypospadias repair.Application of strategic urethrostomy can significantly decrease urethral stricture and improve success rate in complicated hypospadias repair.

Objective:
To investigate the effect of recombinant human keratinocyte growth factor 2 (rhKGF-2) on lung tissue of rabbits with severe smoke inhalation injury.
Methods:
A total of 120 New Zealand rabbits were divided into 5 groups by random number table after being inflicted with severe smoke inhalation injury, with 24 rats in each group. Rabbits in the simple injury group inhaled air, while rabbits in the injury+phosphate buffer solution (PBS) group inhaled 5 mL PBS once daily for 7 d. Rabbits in injury+1 mg/kg rhKGF-2 group, injury+2 mg/kg rhKGF-2 group, and injury+5 mg/kg rhKGF-2 group received aerosol inhalation of 1 mg/kg, 2 mg/kg, and 5 mg/kg rhKGF-2 (all dissolved in 5 mL PBS) once daily for 7 d, respectively. On treatment day 1, 3, 5, and 7, blood samples were taken from the ear central artery of 6 rabbits in each group. After the blood was taken, the rabbits were sacrificed, and the tracheal carina tissue and lung were collected. Blood pH value, arterial oxygen partial pressure (PaO2), arterial blood carbon dioxide pressure (PaCO2), and bicarbonate ion were detected by handheld blood analyzer. The expressions of pulmonary surfactant-associated protein A (SP-A) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in lung tissue were detected by Western blotting. Pathomorphology of lung tissue and trachea was observed by hematoxylin-eosin staining. Data were processed with analysis of variance of two-way factorial design and Tukey test.
Results:
(1) Compared with those in simple injury group, the blood pH values of rabbits in the latter groups on treatment day 1-7 had no obvious change (

Objective To explore the clinical significance of monitoring drainage fluid parathyroid hormone (dPTH) for estimating the in situ reserves and function of the parathyroid by analyzing the change of serum calcium, serum parathyroid hormone(sPTH) and dPTH after thyroid surgery. Methods According to the operative method, the total of 144 patients with thyroid disease were divided into five groups:unilateral lobectomy, unilateral lobectomy plus isthmectomy with unilateral lymph node dissection, total thyroidectomy, total thyroidectomy with unilateral lymph node dissection, and total thyroidectomy with bilateral lymph node dissection group. The blood calcium,sPTH and dPTH level of patients were tested before operation and on the 1st,2nd,3rd and 4th day after operation. The depression of serum calcium, hypocalcemia and hypoparathyroidism were observed after operation. The serum calcium, serum PTH and dPTH level were summarized and analyzed statistically in order to evaluate the in situ reserves and postoperative function of the parathyroid. Results Among the 114 cases, the decline of serum calcium level mostly happened on the 2nd day after operation(70 cases,61.4%).There were 36 patients with hypocalcemia (31.58%) and 34 patients with hypoparathyroidism (29.82%).Serum calcium level increased gradually in all of the patients.Although sPTH level swung,it had a rising trend on the whole. The level of serum calcium and sPTH was positively correlated. The level of dPTH was discrete and decreased along with time. The decline level of dPTH among different groups had statistical difference. Conclusions It is a promising method to evaluate the in situ reserves and function of the parathyroid by monitoring the level and changes of dPTH after thyroid surgery, and it is of value for preventive calcium supplementation after thyroid surgery.
